As long as you dont go into this purchase thinking this is a console you shouldnt be disappointed. This is a pc at heart so it will demand some attention and tinkering.
I did what you said bought it as a console but I’m enjoying learning about the settings. I’ve always been a console gamer so it’s nice to mess around, I got Skyrim running at a solid 60 after spending around five hours at 30 by adusting the graphics and it feels/runs great.
I actually enjoyed tinkering with things I build my own coil for vaping and find joy in building and tinkering with stuff to get it to work properly so i like this i just got mine today and fully set up and went straight into tinkering to get certain games to that wasn't verified to work.
@@jordancarroll1217 dude this is a fucking awesome device so far if you have RU-vid and some common horses sense it's fairly simple to do whatever you need to do.
I've had mine for about 5 months and it just keeps getting better and better as time goes on and you add functionality. It's pretty much my 8 years old dream machine
it's a 30 years old dream come true to me lul. At this point, such a device can perform like this is a dream already and actually, i will love to play games on this device over my PC.
I have had a Steam Deck maybe 3 months now. Yah, everything this dude says in this review is 100% accurate and my exact same experience. It really is that good
Wow, just wow. I had purchased a steam deck( at the time of writing this comment) a bit impulsively about 4 or 5 days ago. Doing tons of research and have been happier and happier about my choice. However when I saw that Futurama boot video, I just lost it man! I absolutely CANNOT WAIT FOR MY STEAM DECK! My goodness I'm so excited!! Great video too!
The cool thing is that Valve made key tools accessible to help you optimize the experience to your use case. The battery life, for example, can be improved with FSR, lowering graphics settings, adjusting refresh rate to 40hz + locking fps to 40, and power available to the APU. It’s crazy seeing all of the improvements to Linux coming together in a cohesive manner with Valve’s direction and touch. This is, for me, the spiritual successor to the PSP. Love it!
Sad how many people forget about the Vita. The Vita was an awesome console and better than the PSP. Just cos Sony ditched it, doesn't mean it deserves no love!
This is an amazing review thank you so much, you literally answered any and all questions I had about getting the steam deck. I have a baby on the way and I am obviously very excited but also worried because obviously it is way harder to get to play games at my pc, or take up the tv with a console. While I will still have those things I want to get a steam deck so I can pick up and play in between free time without needing to move out of the living room or something. This device could not have come out at a better time for me😅. Again thank you so much for the amazing review, that hour flew by!
Considering that I only get 1.5-2.5 hours with a switch (game and network status dependent), getting 1.5-2 hours of Far Cry 5 or ESO I feel the battery life is reasonable and on par with a higher ended gaming laptop on battery. The APU in the Deck is significantly more powerful than the Switch's APU so I expected some reduction with demanding titles.
Thanks for this detailed review! I’ve been thinking of getting one but I’ve been hesitant since I have a backlog of Switch games I haven’t had time to play yet. But even still… _I want it._ 😅 It seems like it does a lot more than I originally thought.
I got the 512gb version and it’s so much fun I love playing old games on it such as fallout 4 3 etc it’s really is worth the money. Just being able to take it out and play fallout 4 on your couch or in a car is amazing
I just got mine yesterday, and so far WOW , it is incredible, it’s everything I’ve ever wanted , it’s so perfect and just amazing, everything plays so well and it looks so damn good too and feels wonderful
This was the most accurate, measured and nice to listen review of the steam deck I ever heard. And I heard nearly every single one on RU-vid, just because I like to hear people's opinion about it (even though I own one myself!). Nice video
Dude, I could listen to you review paint drying or water boiling! Great, in depth review! Keep going on RU-vid, you have potential! I would have thought you had 2mil subs! Great job!
Just got one and pretty impressed, I'm not using Steamdeck for PC gaming since i own a gaming pc itself but Steamdeck is the best "Retro Handheld" you can ever get even today, almost a year since it's release, it basically can emulate everything perfectly from Atari 2600 towards Playstation 2, it even can Emulate PS3 and Nintendo Switch but many game suffer from compatibility issues.
This video was so comprehensive 🤩 I’m definitely convinced now to get one. Hearing the PSP sounds made me giggle lol it’s awesome how you can customize basically everything
My SD will be arriving on or about 10Nov22! I am really interested in exploring it's potential uses besides gaming. I'm also looking forward to playing MechWarrior Mercenaries and No Man's Sky on it,
As much as I hate smudges on the screen, I would love a better touch screen for rhythm games. Things like Deemo are fun on Switch, so if the screen could be as good as that I would be happy. Also Fortnite does not work, and unfortunately Epic will probably make sure it stays not working since they see Steam as a competitor.
Not gonna lie this basically the best console for me I use to love the shit out of the 3ds and ps vita because how portable it is I gave up playing on ps5 because I could easily get bored
It's a hell of a piece of hardware. Pretty much my go to game playing device & that's coming from someone who has a ridiculously powerful PC. I skipped PS4 & PS5 console generations, being primarily a PC gamer but the Steam Deck literally changed that overnight by being 1) Incredibly powerful 2) Really high quality build quality & 3) Instant access to over 500 games I already owned on my steam account. Did I mention how much value for money you get out of this thing? I opted for the 512 model & that was a perfect compromise for me.
... right from the gecko... I find it interesting that you can install the Steam OS onto another system.. so this means you could run a trimmed down gaming pc on the go.
I bought the 64GB model and a $60.00 512GB SSD along with a 1TB SD card for my games. I don't have the anti-glare etched glass but I saved almost $200.00 by not buying the 512GB model and installing the 512GB SSD card.
I just wish they carried these in stores so we could see and hold them and just drive to a retail store and buy it. Valve would sell so much more if it was in stores like bestbuy, target, walmart
First off, I just want to say, this was a great review and I appreciate how much time you spent making this. I do have one question about it, though. I am looking at buying the Steam Deck (I was on the fence, but now I know I'm going to buy one, especially heading about the emulsion being built in, which I haven't seen in any of the reviews that I have watched) and I know I'm either going to get the 256 GB or the 512 GB. My question is, is the 512 GB with the extra $120ish dollars? The difference seems very minor between the two besides the actual storage, which can be easily fixed with a SD card. The anti-glare etched screen seems nice, as I am someone who travels at least once a month, but I am uncertain if that would be enough to pay the extra money.
If you have a AAA console as I do, the best bet is to keep the console and get a JB OLED switch. I modded the switch to play SNES, GBA, PS VITA and arcade games on it. I own most good games on switch anyway so no piracy is involved except for the retro games, granted I did buy all of them back in the day, many more than once. It's just a means to play them again. NOTE, modding the switch is not illegal, using unpaid games is however.
That max dimmed display is perfect for me when navigating with the ship at night. My guess is that it will work great in a car as well if you manage to make a holder for it. I use an acrylic box made to size which is attached at an angle to the rudder stand to keep water out. Making a good waterlock which will still allow air intake and outlet was the most difficult part as on the ship water can come from all sides. Normally the navigation has a night and day setting but I do not like the night setting with its colours as I am colourblind. The day setting works better for me at night but has to be dimmed completely to not get blinded. Most people however do not stay up late and make hours looking into the darkness.
To. Be fair, we used to have some massive handhelds a long time ago. Game gears? I had every single gaming hand held growing up and ya, we had some big boys
The thumbsticks are fine, but they are not magnetic. Magnetic thumbsticks are the superior market choice because they recenter without using springs and will never drift. There are people out there upgrading their steam decks with magnetic thumbsticks.
The only thing making me not pull the trigger is the size it just seems way to big I love the portability of handhelds and this dosent have it at least in my opinion.
I just bought one, wonder if it's worth it since I already have a gaming desktop, Series X, One X, old 360, PS5, Wii U, and PS3 I never use lol. Yes I'm a collector (I guess).
Great review.. I have mine arriving next week. I wanted to know about Proton.. I have a ton of non-steam PC games I would like to install, as I understand Proton will convert windows EXE's to run from linux. Have you had success with this?
The power bank solution is good but it does pop up a warning it’s charging slow the way around that is charge when steam deck is turned off other then that good way to go it charges at 45 wot power
If you are trying a fighting game the 4 face buttons on the right are a lil rough to press, but maybe thats because I got used to PC cherry mx switches, or a fightstick.
*I got 4080 NVIDIA RTX i9 13900k pc i dont use it* was hading 4090 nd 3090ti I love playing on consoles a lot more ps5 and series x for relaxing gameplay without worrying about anything that expensive .. well updated : i just bought *I9 13900k 4080rtx pc gaming* *Rog ally z1 extreme* *Steam deck with 1tb ssd* Im testing these units of handhelds if they worth it .. hope so if not i gotta sell em and get ps5 & series x and games cause i hate carring about fps heat cpu or gpu on pcs that take all the fun away and no need to worry about anything really consoles just work huge plus‼️
I just died inside when you said gigady, I wasn't thinking that but now you mention it is it worth it or for the size, price and so on should I just get a new laptop?
Great video , thanks Is there a Step by Step guide to get Diablo Immortals playing on the Steam Deck ? This would seem to by the ultimate portable platform for that game.
It's comparatively a large device but honestly, the switch controls are just too small... the Steam Deck feels normal and comfortable in my hands. It also doesn't feel heavy to me.
I would buy it in a heartbeat, but I heard the battery life isn't that good. Overheats after playing for a few hours. I hate playing games while it's got the charger on it. 😅
It's just a PC, so yes graphics mods are available, tho not all of them work without issues. Storage capacity can be upgraded with a microSD card or by swapping the internal SSD
I’m new to roms and not tech savvy at all. wondering if downloading and playing them, will they (even on a microsd card) negatively impact the processing or whatever of the regular steam games.
Gonna buy the 64GB model and upgrade the SSD to 1TB as well as add a 1TB microSD card and install Windows 10 on it as much of my Steam library is listed as Playable or under with just FOURTEEN PERCENT are listed as Verified.
Verified is *very* strict now. Even minor things such as fonts being too small for example boot a game out of the verified and into the playable category. ProtonDB is a great resource to find out how well games *actually* run on the Steam Deck
The only thing holding me back from getting a steam deck is the battery life. If it could at least play 3d games for 4 hours I'd get one. I don't want to be married to an outlet.
I'm glad it runs on Linux by default, it should make a lot of people realize just how good and easy to use Linux is these days, you don't need Windows for really anything except music and high quality video production these days, but there's a fork of Steam Proton called GE (Glorious Eggroll) which is being updated by the community to add support for non-gaming software so maybe we really are past the point of ever needing Windows again. The best part is Linux is built by real programmers who develop it out of passion, so everything runs better on Linux even if it's emulated.
You only need internet when downloading thing or playing multiplayer games. Some games also have online-DRM (which sucks), but that's usually labeled in the store. For regular use, offline is fine.
Really good detailed review man!! So I’m interested more in more in getting this thing!! Does anyone know if you can use like visa gift cards toward it, I tried finding something on it people said yiu can & use steam wallet but I never had steam so idk where to begin with that hah just wanna lower the price
I wonder if this guy uses an old flip phone. He'd have to get smudges on the screen of a smartphone! :p ==edit== I mean absolutely no hate here! I'm honestly just trying to give you a hard time in a friendly way.
Ya can bring down the price of building a desktop a bit lower then $900. Paul's hardware just did a video about $750, if ya like tech ya should really checkem out.
its really meant to plug it in and play while youre in bed imo. if youre bringing this on a bus ride youre a weirdo, and if youre weird enoughj to do that, youre probably also weird enough to carry around a battery bank in your backpack
@@MSDGAMEZ I’ve just personally never felt compelled to want to game on the go. In the car or a plane, yes, but again, it can be plugged in there as well. Only thing steam deck isn’t great for is if you’re going camping and want to play a video game instead of touching grass.
