My Beautiful Mom passed away in 2020 I miss her so very much and my sister suggested looking up footage from where Mom came from and here I am. It's like a different world. My Mom never really spoke of her early life but I got the impression she came from poverty and her mom struggled as a single parent. The only stories she told me of with a fond memories was being very young and nicking bottles from the back of the shops and trading them in for a penny 🤭🤫 and getting locked in a department store overnight with her brother and sister i think 😵 I think she said it ended up in the local press at the time. I Love you Mom 🙏🏽💙🦋
Gawd, you know you're a coffin dodger when you remember long drop toilets (small house just off Trafalgar Street with squares of newspaper!), dolly tub at the back of the house (Airdrie Crescent), helping mum with the mangle and generally messing around with it, knocker ups and the sound of clogs in the morning, going out with my dad on his horse-drawn ice cream cart (I was allowed to ring the bell) and going with my dad picking coal at Hapton. Going for a day trip to Blackpool with my mum on the steam train. They were the best of times and the worst of times rolled into one. From that to artificial intelligence in one lifetime and I'm not done yet!
I used to go in there all the time. It was a great pub under Mick for a few years but he seemed to lose his way, argue with people and it ended up being pretty much dead for its last few years. A real shame.
