😳 WOW… did not expect this! Honestly… every teen needs to hear how she learned from herself. Her insight into her own growth is stunning. How incredibly unique each of these are. I’m laughing bc she is so on target and helpful. I hope people SHARE this.
What a wonderful interview. I'm looking forward to the next installment. She beautifully articulates the voyage of self-discovery that one must undertake to become a pianist. Becoming a pianist is having the courage to discover and explore the truest, most authentic dimensions of yourself.
So great to hear from you, and we are so delighted that this has resonated with you! Part 2, in which she discusses the life and music of Florence Price, is also amazing--it's up as well, and we wish we could directly link it for you here, but it's on our page! We're so grateful for your being in touch--zsolt
We are truly grateful to you for saying all this! It is crazy expensive to do and mostly comes out of our own pockets basically as a free public service to help others through these stories. When we hear meaningful words like yours, it becomes all worth it ✨🥂🙏 Please keep in touch!
It’s so nice to see your interview program back, I enjoyed every one of these and through these interviews I get to know the classics world. Thank you!
Madam Michelle Cann, This is such an inspiring interview with a real life motivational experiences and advice for everyone. You continuously highlighted insecurities that can hunt almost everyone while in pursuit of their dreams. Such insecurities can have a devastating effect and will impede someone's growth and achievement as you stated. As I listened to you, it was evident that even in your doubts, your guiding angel through that small convincing voice was directing you to your divine destiny with courage and conviction. Indeed I am so proud 👏 of you and even more grateful for the opportunity my son, Richmond Denzel Garrick had to work with such an enlightening teacher and amazing pianist like you. You're definitely a good person, fantastic and nurturing teacher. Your personal experiences have shaped your perspective in life and created such a strong nurturing love and care for humanity. You're a blessing to this universe. Goodluck! So proud 👏 of you. Thank 😊 you! Dr. Richmond Garrick
Thank you so much for this video! As a pianist trying to navigate through this life with an unorthodox background this came at a great time. I'm about to start my master's degree for piano in September and can completely relate to everything Michelle says. It's hard not really knowing how it will all work out, and if all this effort will amount to something in the end. No matter what validation you get, you have to truly back yourself to succeed, and believe you know that there is space for you in this music world. Something I'm trying to work on currently. All the best!
We’re so grateful to hear from you exactly on these subjects-it’s exactly what I try to cover from different angles. Navigating conservatory days to figuring out what comes after. Please keep in touch-we’re rooting for you ✨ -zsolt
Wonderful performance on both sides of the interview. Makes me wish that I were a good enough pianist to study with her, just so that I could spend an hour a week hanging out with her...
Thank you so much for this-we are grateful to hear you feel her message reaches you in a broader way! It’s exactly what I try so hard to achieve in leading these conversations. So glad to hear from you ✨🙏☕️
Love her piece about not placing all your eggs in one basket. But I must confess I've NEVER had the problem of comparing myself to other pianists. I have what I have to say and don't care what others do to be honest even if they have better technical abilities. We're all playing the same stuff that neither of us have written ourselves! There's something to be said for REALLY getting/digging a work as opposed to perfectly executing learned notes!
What a beautiful, genuine interview, it is so true that the battle lies within us. So wonderful for young musicians to hear this. It touched my heart 🙏🎶❤️ My son Adrian is blessed to have you.
