I really appreciate and love this channel. As a casual music fan I often don’t appreciate or know much about the backgrounds of my favorite songs and bands. You really help me get a lot more joy out of the music that I love. 😀
One hot minute was an iconic record. It got me through a very rough time in my own history. Its songs are etched onto my soul. A totally underappreciated and crazy record.
How about the spoken word intro to Deep Kick and the middle section of One Big Mob? I was in middle school and MTV was my life, this album was soooo anticipated, i remember watching the MTV documentary about the making of this album, it gave me that wanting to run away with the circus vibe, later went to see them that year, Anthony Kiedis got hit in the forehead with a liquor bottle in the first song… after the song he says “to the person who threw the bottle at my head, I just wanna say………. I love you” boom right into the next song. Special band, I’d say as important as Metallica and NIN. I had almost forgot how much I used to love RHCP and Flea;) this video really brought me back.
I couldn’t say it any better. It’s an incredible record, and probably my favorite. It’s just just beautifully complex with it’s tone and circumstance. Navarro not being a funk player? Man….sounded good to me… Tracks like Deep Kick, One Big Mob, Walkabout. This is rock’n’roll magic. Maybe it’s fitting that an album so good, is the one the band hates. Californication was the let down for me. It’s the second most musically bland record after The Getaway. One Hot Minute is just the last picture of the band with youth in their sound.
Long-time Chili Peppers fan. The Uplift Mofo Party Plan is my favorite album. I was lucky enough to see them live with Hillel and there might have been 100 people there. One Hot Minute was severely underrated. I loved Jane’s Addiction and Dave really gave the band the balls it needed. Also, if you haven’t heard deconstruction , check it out.
Being a long time fan of RHCP from their early punk-funk style starting with their first album, One Hot Minute was a definite departure from that style but it still grooved like crazy, of course how could it not when the rhythm section is Flea & Chad? Dave Navarro brought something to the table that was absolutely amazing. And I'll never slight John Frusciante because he is a phenomenal guitarist in his own right but the heaviness that Dave brought was just other worldly in my opinion. One Hot Minute will always be my favorite RHCP album of all time. I still listen to it after all these years.
Yeah the first heavy riff in Warped is flea and Dave really locked in and Anthony floating up above the music with floaty Melodie’s and lyrics. I miss this time period in music, I also miss this high energy mid 90’s L.A. vibe, just electric.
Blood Sugar Sex Magik broke me into the chili peppers and will always be my favorite. I raised my first son on it, took him to his first concert at lollapalooza to see them at the age of two. Sir Psycho Sexy will always be my favorite song. Anthony’s voice is just so soothing to me.
The Power of The Professor: I was NEVER a fan of RHC…. But, at 63, I found my heart melting and my feet dancing to their story and music…. All because of YOU!!!💃🕺❤️💫😁
I've come to respect a lot of these musicians even though I don't care a lot for their music. One really doesn't need to like art on order to appreciate talent.
Coffee Shop is one of Flea's greatest performances. It is a shame that they don't play it live. If Frusciante won't play songs he didn't help write, then he shouldn't keep leaving the band.
@@carlosimotti3933 well, except that he’s not, and they’ve made more records without him than with him. He’s very gifted to be sure, but one member’s antics shouldn’t stop a band from working. Especially when he’s not a founding member and has marginalized himself from the rest of his bandmates.
As a 10 year old my friends and I used to 'borrow' this album from their parents regularly, purely because it featured lots of swearing, which excited us. Another 10 years down the line I re-discovered the album and became aware of its musical excellence!
One Hot Minute is my fave record of all time by any band ever. It pains me that it's ignored. i adore it. So underrated, but I have been noticing that over the last few years it's finally started to get the respect it deserves.
I love One Hot Minute. With Navarro it's their art rock album. Warped is brilliant. Aeroplane along with most other tracks are totally unique and musically amazing.
yeah I'm surprised it has such a negative reputation. I honestly like a few of the songs on that album. my friends, tearjerker, transcending shallow by thy name, plus the two you mentioned. I will say though it definitely has it's own sound and isnt like the rest of their work.
My Friends is a great song from an under appreciated record. It was one of the first albums I ever owned actually as a child. Bought it mainly because of My Friends. But to me the Chili’s best song is another one that gets intentionally neglected: Knock Me Down from Mother’s Milk. I’ve read that they don’t play it anymore because of the personal nature of the lyrics dealing with the death of their previous guitarist. Understandable but man what I wouldn’t give to hear that song live.
Its one of my favorite complete RHCP albums. I think having Navarro on it was the most intriguing thing because thematically he is a very different guitar player than the prior guitar slingers that preceded him on recordings. Nearly every track on it was pure banger
This is one of my favorite episodes Professor! There was one trivia tidbit you missed. “One Hot Minute” only made it to #4 because Alanis’ “Jagged Little Pill” was one of the 3 albums above it. Flea and Dave Navarro played on Alanis’ breakthrough hit “You Outta Know” which helped propel the JLP album above OHM. It’s an almost identical musical situation to when EVH’s Michael Jackson “Beat It” guitar solo helped propel “Thriller” to #1 with VH’s “1984” album peaking at #2 as a result. Keep up the great work! Your channel is amazing! ❤️🔥
Of course I knew that EVH played on Beat It and Thriller was #1, and 1984 was #2, and I knew Flea played on You Oughta Know, and Alanis was really the megastar of the year, but I had never thought of it like that. You're totally right. Good call.
And Celine Dion and Mariah Carey daydream were still big sellers, 1996 was alanis vs. Mariah Carey at the Grammys.. People still can't believe the success of daydream and she went out empty handed especially the one sweet day made history..
I actually prefer One Hot Minute over the rest of the catalog and wished they could have at least done one more album with Dave Navarro! To me it was a big step forward in their sound and style.
Me too, but I think what that really means to the people that will likely scoff at me is I am not a fan of the band as much as many, but Warped and My Friends are two songs I love. I love playing bass and singing to Aeroplane too. Under The Bridge is definitely not a song I liked and that alone will baffle many.
@@blackjackfan58 not a bad take at all, OHM is a step up from Blood Sugar Sex Magic, and many others think so to! Once John came back they took a step back which was a major turn off for many.
"My Friends" is a great song. "One Hot Minute" is the most uneven album in the RHCP catalog. It's still a better album overall than anything released between 2010-2020 imo. I bet Frusciante could bring an interesting touch to the song if he decided to interpret it. Navarro has a great guitar sound, but John Frusciante is a guitar god and has otherworldly vocal/songwriting chops.
I absolutely love this album. So many memories attached to this album. I actually rediscovered it when I was digitising my CD collection and now it lives on my players and in my car ☺️
My late friend actually auditioned for the Red Hot Chili Pepper's in 92'. They said he was one of the best guitarist that had auditioned but there was someone already in mind, but if that didn't work out they would let him know. They asked him to stay in California for a few days while they figured things out. Two days later they let him know they were going with Navarro.
@@thedadyouneverhadchannel3544 John Frusciante quit mid-tour in 1992, IIRC. They finished the tour with temporary and session guitarists and then hired Navarro in late ‘92 or early ‘93. They wrote, rehearsed and recorded ‘One Hot Minute’ in June[ish] of ‘94 and the album was ultimately released in mid-late 1995. If I’ve got any of that wrong, please correct. Cheers!
I bought this record because I loved “Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic”. Listening to it I realized that “One Hot Minute” was very different. My favorite songs were “Aeroplane”, which I loved, and “Coffee Shop”. It took me a while to warm up to “My Friends” because it was downtempo, but I often wondered about the character Anthony sang about. I’ve always suspected that the reason the record has been pushed aside because of Dave Navarro’s departure. I think this album absolute speaks to the artistry of the band. If you want your art to be truly artful, then it has to grow.
Thanks for making this video.... One hot minute is one of favourite albums... i saw Chilli Peppers on Wembley arena on the One hot minute tour with Dave Navarro... it was amazing. So much more depth and feeling than their more recent albums for me.
Howdy Professor - I believe this is my first post on your site. I must say, I am always pleased when I stop by. In particular, I want to give you a huge compliment for the DOA - Bloodrock episode. A cool, often forgotten, classic. Keep up the good work!!! And, a big thank you. I am posting today because I really love the juxtaposition of the LP's you have in the background. As a practicing guitarist/bassist/musician, I was profoundly influenced by five of the six albums I can see. These are RUSH, Jefferson Star-Plane-Wheelchair, Gary Numan, The Police and the Guess Who. In particular, as a Jefferson Star-Plane-Wheelchair fanatic, I was impressed at how the Kantner driven version of the band was able to meld current music sounds and styles with his personal philosophy. You can probably include the KBC band in that grouping. In fact, I have gone out of my way to see a version of the Guess Who (1982, Boulder, original bass player and drummer), RUSH (1982, with Rory Gallagher), The Police (1983, with UB-40), Gary Numan (2019-ish), and the Jefferson Star-Plane-Wheelchair in so many variations that I have lost count (1980-2021). And, if I may suggest - Please do a show on the psychedelic tunes done by the GUESS WHO on their first four (odd) albums; Canned Wheat, Wheat Field Soul, American Woman, Share The Land, and Bannatyne all have some pretty "far out" tunes. I just wanted to say THANK YOU and "coolness" to all of the bands you have showing. They profoundly influenced my life and music. Thank you very much for the great shows. Clap For The Wolfman. Cheers.....MC Malthus.
I loved "My Friends" when it was out. Recently it popped up on an online 90s station in my car and I was so excited to hear it again! I had totally forgotten about the song, which made me a little sad, but thankful as well to have it back.
This album was my first CD I ever owned, given as a birthday present when I was in 6th grade. This era of the chili’s had a massive impact on me and I wish it was more appreciated 🙏🏻🌶❤️🔥
“ My Friends “ is a beautiful song .. if Dave’s only input in the Red Hot Chili Peppers was that song it was all worth it .. one of my favorite RHCP songs of all .. ❤️
@@sombra1111 I don’t mean he made the song or the guitar parts .. whatever input he had to the song .. even just playing the guitar and solo is enough of a contribution.. I’m sure Dave’s input probably molded the song too ..
What I think is that I'm glad your out here doing this. Reminds me of a great summer I had as a kid, a young Marine stationed in Okinawa, Japan, driving around in a foreign world but listening to Kasey Kassim's top 40. Great rock trivia and stories told with wonder, respect, and an honest love for the art. Yeah, man I'm glad you're out here. Peace
I’m glad you did this one. I remember me and my friend Chris (RIP) buying this the day it came out and listening to it over and over debating the best songs. Great memories
As always thank you for the trip to the 90's. Red Hot Chili Peppers are truly one of a kind. I'll always remember One Hot Minute. Plenty of hits of that record. Dave Navarro did a good job filling in those guitarist shoes. It sounded different than Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic and I say that's a good thing. The first single Warped kicked everything into high gear. Aeroplane and My Friends were truly wonderful additions to their singles collection. My personal favorite is Coffee Shop! Thanks again Professor and have a good weekend 🤘
Frusciante is still the only guitar player for this band. Some excellent tunes and an underrated album but Navarro knew it and the rest of the band knew it that it's Frusciante through and through. Another excellent episode of this show.
@@ProfessorofRock my favorite song from one hot minute is “falling into grace” such an underrated song. But the whole album is great. Could easily be their best work. Although stadium arcadium had all the bangers lol
This is my favorite album they do. I was around for when it came out it was right when I started playing guitar. It’s such great listen from start to finish. I had the incredible privilege of telling Dave Navarro how much this record influenced me he knows it’s a classic and work of art.
I was there at that performance of My Friends at Ohana Fest. Such a pleasant and beautiful surprise to see Dave and Chad perform together which I never thought would happen, especially with Taylor on vocals. Even cooler now after watching this video
This was such an eye-opening video. Hearing the untold and "swept under the rug" stories behind iconic bands and albums are one of the many reasons why I love this channel.
I loved this album. I bought it when it came out, "music is my aeroplane" is a great lyric. I love Flea singing on it, they all contributed greatly. I was going through some rough times with some close friends of mine, so it's kind of painful to listen to now, but being in a better head space now means I can enjoy the music more.
What a fantastic deep dive, well written and composed professor. I didn't know a lot of this. Can't agree more Friends is a fantastic song. Anthony is a great songwriter and the RHCP have a sound you know instantly it's them. Fantastic album and a fantastic follow up to Blood Sugar. Keep doing 90s music professor there is so much great music in this era.
Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of the best out there! I hadn’t heard this particular album all the way through before today but have heard a lot of their other stuff. My next 90s request is anything by Garbage or The Offspring.
I remember buying this album the day is was released as well. A local record shop put an ad in the newspaper the week before and if you clipped the ad and showed up on the release date you could get a $2 discount. This album and Mother's Milk are the only RHCP albums that I ever seem to revisit anymore.
Oh man, I LOVED this album. It was my first Peppers album (later picked up the rest) and I could not stop playing it. These guys along with a few other bands got me out of my Depeche Mode bubble and opened me up to other types of music. I might have to play this album again today in honor of this video! 😎👍
I saw Anthony when he was back in addiction. It was dark and real and you can see him change for the worse and it was a different creature. It was good to see him through to the other side ! He said that in his song 🎵 My friends I was given thanks. I said no Thank you!
This album will always be my favorite Chili Peppers album. 'Walkabout', 'One Hot Minute', 'Shallow Be Thy Game' and 'Falling Into Grace' are all killer non-single tracks. I also love that super soft part and long build-up in 'One Big Mob'. Such a cool artistic choice in the middle of an otherwise high-energy song. This album and Dave Navarro deserve way more love than they get.
@@SkySplitterInk Not a bad song (I believe this album has none of them), but I think every b-side is better, I am surprised they couldn't fit them in since many of their albums are longer (15-17 songs instead of 13)
I remember watching that SNL live and, even at 13 years old, I could feel the tension as I watched. I had no idea about the issues that created it at the time. It was bizarre to see. As far as One Hot Minute, I actually enjoyed it. Many of my friends (no pun) were really upset with the change of direction, though. The video for Aeroplane is what I remember most. It's a lot of fun to watch. My Friends will always be dear to me because I can still remember playing it on my acoustic guitar with ... well my Friends 😎.
Thanks for giving us all the background on this album. As a rchp I love this One Hot Minute and I listen to to it regularly, even though I started following the band in the mid 2000s. It is indeed a bit sad that we never hear any live performance of this songs anymore.
I also remember that in between Frusciante's departure and Navarro's hiring, they hired guitarist Arik Marshall, but he lasted less than a year. That was the lineup I saw perform live in 1992, which is still the only time I've seen them play.
I remember hearing Warped for the first time, and as the first released single from One Hot Minute. It blew me away!! Sooooo much angst and energy. I went and bought the CD that day. It's still my favorite track from it.
So true! No lie, I heard "Scar Tissue" on the radio this week and actually asked myself "What the hell did RHCP do between Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Californication??" After a moment or two I did remember One Hit Minute, and I had already planned to revisit it. Now I have definitely have to. I haven't listened to "Pea" in decades!
Great program. That was a hard period in music. The breakup of Jane’s Addiction and Jon’s leaving the RHCP left much hanging in the air. I absolutely loved Deconstruction’s album and felt it a vindication of Eric Avery’s complaints about Jane’s and furthering Dave’s guitar hero status. I was excited about Dave Navarro’s joining RHCP and anticipated the album with glee. Honestly, I found little to hold on to, the textures were lovely, the music good, but it lacked the joy and abandon of the last 3 RHCP albums…it was like they grew up…or I did…for me nothing they did mattered after the pressing of One Hot Minute. Kind of like after ‘and Justice for All’ Metallica was a system rather than a live wire. Growing up sucks.
I feel this. I’ve always said that abt both bands and sets of LPs…but honestly I can still find things in both bands LPs after their respective breakthrough albums that I can enjoy. RCHPs most recent stuff…the jury’s still out for me.
As soon as I saw the title of the video I turned to my teenager and said “he’s going to talk about ‘One Hot Minute.’” It was a great album and you did a great video! You can tell you’ve read Scar Tissue as well. Well done!
I actually love that album. Unfortunate that it’s not getting much love. Way better than Unlimited Love, that’s for sure. Love My Friends, but Tearjerker is my favorite from OHM.
I played that album to death. I still go back to it from time to time. The harder guitar edge really is appealing to me. Especially since I loved Jane's Addiction at the time.
One hot minute is one of the albums played in my garage while in my Skateboarding phase. How I miss the good ol days of buying CD's or cassette tapes at a local music store... thanks for posting this vid! It brought back memories
Thank you Professor for creating this video. One Hot Minute will always have a special place in my memory as it came about just as me and my school friends were learning to play instruments and forming cover bands.
I love 'One Hot Minute', and especially "My Friends". During a period of my life 10 - 15 years when I had my own struggles with addiction I sold most of my CDs to raise money for my habit, but I still kept my original copies of "My Friends", and "One Hot Minute". I kept the single for "Under The Bridge", too, and the albums of 'BSSM', and 'Californication', but if I owned any other material by the Red Hot Chili Peppers then I can't remember, what they were. Although I can't claim to have totally conquered my addiction, the only band whose music I refused to sell was Nirvana's; and still own all the singles and albums they released; even if their music has been released multiple times in varied forms, the artwork on the CD singles make them special for me. I've spent much of the last 5 years reacquiring the music - a simpler task where albums are concerned - the CD single of "My Friends" is (after Nirvana), one of my most treasured possessions.
One Hot Minute is easily my favourite RHCP album. It frustrates me that whenever I mention to anyone that OHM is my favourite, no one has heard it or remembers it or recognises it. It really is a ghost of sorts. The one track I don't love is Falling into Grace, but apart from that, everything rocks. I think Navarro is what makes me like it 20 x more than any other album. He's not the worlds best guitar player by any technical measurement, but the way he composed and recorded and had input in to OHM is so perfect. A true shame that people no longer give this album an hour of listening time to enjoy.
"One Hot Minute" is the only Peppers album I have managed to listen to begining to end. Through all their incarnations RHCP are undoubtedly a great band, but never really resonated with me--until Dave Navarro. His presence is quite patent on "One Hot Minute." It's a great album, to my ears at least. Sad the Chili Peppers don't really recognize its sonic accomplishments. Oh well. 🤷🎸
As a Chili Peppers fan since Uplift Mofo Party Plan, I bought One Hot Minute the week it was released. I love Aeroplane - it's one of my favorite songs to sing at karaoke.
I bought this album since it came out, and loved it... My Friends. A Masterpiece. I've shed a tear or two when listening... Warped... Crazy AF..! Great other songs within... Sad been almost thrown into oblivion, but thank You, Professor, for bringing this back to remember..!
@@KickflipGnasty this album is top 3 from the RHP. Dave Navarro live with the chili’s blew John’s versions of songs away outta this planet. Dave was and is a fucken rockstar.
@@greganguiano4308 I’ve never heard any hard-core fan rank this in their top three. I love Dave and I’m a huge fan of Jane’s Addiction and of course he was amazing with them live, but you sound like a casual fan.
I wish John would play my friends. The band had to keep going all of those times he left. He owes it to them. Those songs are too good to be hidden forever
It's not only their "darkest" album, as some suggest, but the song "Walkabout" is actually one of their lightest and funkiest songs. It's a bit weird that they apparently don't play that one live.
My memories of this album is when I was deployed in UAE and my friend, Zack, a RHCP fan, thought the album was a strange departure from their past. But he eventually liked the album over time, Friends and Airplane were contagious songs. We also thought the inner picture of the band was hilarious. I don't know if the inner picture was meant to be funny, but it appeared Flea just pleased his bandmates and popped up for the picture with a happy grin on his face.
Love One Hot Minute! Some great songs that still get me way pumped! Always loved Jane's Addiction too. Hard to say where I rank it, in the top 6 for sure, at least until Dream Canteen comes out. Interesting aside, before Navarro joined they actually advertised and auditioned guitarists I believe. Great episode Prof. Cheers!
I saw them at the beginning of the BSSM tour in Vancouver and John didn't move, standing in the same spot all concert only lighting cigarettes and playing the guitar which was very different from what I had been expecting. And I hated 'Under the bridge'. People at school who'd not listened to the album or any of their previous work blaring 'bridge' in the parking lot saying they loved RHCP.
Just subbed man Haven't ever heard of this Channel. I am not the biggest rhcp fan. But I was a teenager back then, and didn't understand at the time why they had such a rolling lineup. My Friends really struck me at that time, too. The deep description of where songs I love come from is one of my favorite things about music -- my life passion. Thank you for putting it together, and I look forward to seeing what else you've got.
one hot minute was not only a great album, but a great tour..I saw them on this tour at Madison Square garden....the visuals and the music were on point...I love John's work , but he has some fans who can't accept that Dave added a great flavor to the band...it was about as good as they could have done after losing John....Warped was a great opening single , while my friends and aeroplane were great follow ups...also....my fave chili peppers song is behind the sun...on this tour they did about 2 bars of that distinctive riff while jamming....Dave was the one who led into the riff...it was a great nod to hillel Slovak who in my opinion wrote the greatest riff in the bands history
Deep Kick is personally my favorite after reading about it in Scar Tissue. The early era with Slovak was the spark. However I think Frusciante / Smith are the classic guitarist & drummer of the band. Despite them not being there from the beginning. They complete the sound. I dislike the hate for One Hot Minute. I worry the Klinghoffer era will get the same treatment in due time.
This is a great album! I think Frusciante needs to grow up at this point and realize that the reason someone slept with his girl was because of him. If he was a true Jane’s Addiction fan, he should embrace this record, especially in support of his bandmates.
But I think accepting someone sleeping with my girl and talking about his sex moves every time we go out (playing a couple of songs every concert) are two different matters. That being said, I am a fan of one hot minute myself.
True, now he doesn’t want to play anything they did with Josh K. He might be one of the best guitar players, but still a diva. I wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves again anytime.
I agree. I'm a huge peppers fan but this has always been my favorite record. While Blood Sugar was my gateway to the peppers sound, this was the first album I purchased myself by them so it had a huge influence on me. It is disappointing to see them live and not hear it among their other music. I hope they play a little more of their discog. It seems the albums with Josh are also being put on the shelf.
I just got back from their concert. The thing is, there's no guarantee that John can play any of the stuff the other guys wrote. It might not be for lack of want but more lack of ability. Some guitarists just can't play everything.
@@daveydmur Given that John was able to play Hillel's songs flawlessly when he joined the band, I believe John could play the other guys' stuff if he wanted. He just doesn't seem to want to.
It's not "forgotten," or "lost" or a "ghost album." It's closer to an album by an entirely different band. That the RHCP rarely play anything from it (Flea still sings "Pea" on occasion) isn't shocking, since Navarro's style is so different from either JF or Josh.
What band? Maybe a lost, or forgotten ghost band? It sounds like you're apparently disagreeing just to restate exactly the thesis of the video. A band that no longer exists, so the songs don't get played, but they're deserving of more attention.
It kinda is forgotten. not played live, JF won't play it. radio doesn't play anything off it. pretty much no promotion (unlike BSSM, C, etc which have songs still played). That, of course, is neglecting the pre-JF/CS disks, which was way more funkier and not popular compared to MM and it's successors. One can almost argue MM is also now a ghost album, at least from their live performances, they seem to be a much quieter and not-as-energetic. I basically stopped buying their new stuff, it just doesn't grab me anymore. Seems their fanbase has bifurcated, last concert I saw, the energetic older songs, older audience members stood and and sang and cheered while the young sat down, then the new stuff which are quieter and less energetic, young stood up, older sat down. At least that's what I observed at that concert (I'm obviously among the older!). but that's just me and my opinion/observation!
@@marctowersap8018 I've heard "Aeroplane" 10 million times on the radio in the last 20 years. True, the awful "Dani California" gets way more airplay (who knows why?), but judging music by how often it's still played on the radio is a pretty poor way to judge music. Have you listened to the radio lately? Or ever? It's an interesting album, but expecting JF to be OK with playing its songs would like expecting Zach to sing "Like a Stone" in RATM just because the other 3 guys played it with Chris Cornell.
One hot minute has always been my favorite album by RhCP, and always baffled me how obscure it is at the same time. Bought it day one also, and enjoy introducing it to people to this day. Weird eccentric awesome forgotten album. Everyone should give it a good ol full college try.
Hell yes, I remember this album. I was surprised to hear that it, evidently, “vanished.” The song “My Friends” is one of a handful of songs that will often randomly pop into my head. That and Aéroplane.
I remember this album and really enjoyed it! It amazes me how much of a difference in sound a single member can make. I figured that it's obscurity these days was due to Jon's resentment of it... suspicion confirmed haha... well done video good sir.
A few nights ago I watched the video, I was so moved I ordered the CD. It arrived 2 days ago, due illness I just retrieved it from the mailbox today. In the coming moments I'm going to copy it to my hard drive. The Chilli Peppers always manage to amaze and surprise me. Prof, thank you for posting this.
I remember getting the album the day it came out ( or arrived locally ) and first being confused by the new sound, then really digging into it , used to blast coffee shot in my room to piss off my parents lol , I was learning guitar at the time and got into my friends as it was mostly acoustic and easy to follow compared to the rest of the album, I still have my CD and still rock it from time to time, wasn't much into the peppers at the time so for my this was my first RHCP album , then started to look into their previous stuff, really an amazing perenial band. Under the Bridge I would pick as my favorite for all time, on recent material - Dark Necessities
Hell no I never forgot about this album! It's the hardest, most rocking album the Peppers ever made. To be honest, it's the only album from the Peppers that I bought. It's the only one (except for friends) that strayed from the formula that they have carved out. Dave pushed them into new territory.
95-96 I felt that RHCP, STP and Sound Garden albums released those years where my favorite albums at that time and some of all 3 of the bands best work. I remember seeing and hearing the videos all over everywhere I went on radio or mtv. I was 15 at the time some of the most fun years of my life
Finally got to see John with the band on the first date of this tour in Denver. It was absolutely magical and everything I’ve been waiting over a decade for
One Hot Minute is in my top 3 of RHCP albums; along with Stadium Arcadium and Blood Sugar Sex Magick. I love the dark psychedelic vibes and Walkabout is probably one of my favourite Chilis songs ever
I absolutely love this album, all “my friends” (pun intended) loved RHCP’s and used to mock me for preferring G’N’R, I did buy this after seeing “warped” on MTV, opened the door to the peppers for me.
