What do you think it meant that they were prophesying? And is this a metaphor or were they actually giving prophecy?

This is what I’m confused about too. I tried to understand from somethings I found online and I believe at this time the spirit of God came among them and since the plan was to kill David, maybe at this moment they were only able to prophesies life over David’s future? I’m really not sure. Some type of inspiration that came from God which only allowed them to proclaim goodness over the thing they planned to ruin

@@edithaduThe LORD was with David. I believe it could have been a way for The LORD to allow David to escape. GOD allowed an evil spirit to come on Saul because he refused to repent and had a murderous heart. Saul also was overcome with the spirit of prophecy to stop him from harming David.

I feel they were prophesying since The LORD sent HIS SPIRIT. It was a way for David to escape.

This may answer your question- When it says that they were all prophesying it isn't that they were all predicting the future. The Hebrew word simply has the idea of speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. They probably all gave spontaneous and inspired praise to God. c. The Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied: They were caught up in the atmosphere of worship and devotion to God, and the Spirit of God came upon them. This from ‘enduring word’ which goes into detail in scriptures
