A little about me:
Sean Daniel is a man. A man of simple needs and desires. And the one desire, no, the one NEED, that stands above all is to spread the challenges, joy and intellectual stimulus of music to people of Earth and beyond.
Born on the mean streets of upper middle class suburban Chicago, Sean learned the ways of the world through the dizzying heights of success to the lonesome depths of failure and emerged with the promise of a better tomorrow reflecting in his eyes and fiery passion in his belly.
He plays and teaches guitar on his RU-vid channel where he regularly releases original music and projects to the adulation of legions of fans, who often compare him to Chris Pratt and one time Ryan Reynolds. He’s currently in the market for a nice leather jacket.

Sean, my guitar instructor and I hit jazz since that's what I wanted to do - because I love jazz so much - and this was exactly what he's been trying to get into my head - but you did it with a really much simpler approach. Thank you so much for this. Now when doing the chord heavy jazz arrangements my brain is now saying 'ah ha'.

You can go a lot further in your understanding and ability by breaking down chords into intervals and learning to play those intervals everywhere. You’ll be able to create chords anywhere. You’ll also see that you can create chords that are physically unplayable, but you can omit certain notes to make that new chord work (like omitting the 5th and maybe even the root if you’re playing with others). Diminished 7th chords as parents to dominants and their home keys will really wake you up (Pat Martino’s Parental Forms ideas).

great video sean I've been playing for 25 years but learned by ear no theory very fun but very limiting I've been trying learning theory lately very frustrating , not only is your video helping me with shapes, but just explaining relative minors as it relates to major chords, and the notes in common , and what makes them different helps me a lot, because of my life schedule, your method of teaching doesn't require me to spend the time i had when i was 20years old to help me thank you

Thanks Sean, this lesson is gold! I've been getting mild pain in my fretting hand (all of a sudden after 23 years of playing), so have been looking for new ways to play chords (ways that enable my fretting hand and wrist to remain in a straight line instead of forming something close to a 90 degree angle/ "L" shape). These 1 finger major and minor chords fit the bill! Also love using the 1 finger inverted 5ths in my playing. Thanks for another great lesson again!

You are killing it on the RU-vid, sensei. I'd be commenting more, but I am traveling around the country in a suped up Amazon delivery van for the spring while the temp are somewhat moderate. Got to say, though I've been impressed with the amoint of good content I've seen. Your work ethic is impressive. I've turned my guitar playing son on to you. He's impressed. I don't have to tell you to keep it up. You’re in the pocket. Best wishes.

Your comment reminded me of hearing of various studies that link learning and making music to increased brain capacity. Wikipedia provided this summary: "This strong association between musician status and gray matter differences supports the notion that musicians' brains show use-dependent structural changes. Due to the distinct differences in several brain regions, it is unlikely that these differences are innate but rather due to the long-term acquisition and repetitive rehearsal of musical skills." I can't help but think that relearning and practicing your technique may well have significant other benefits for your brain injury. Best to you.

Great lesson. I never noticed how the minor and major triads sit on top of each other like that. The bonus tip about using your pinky to play the tonic of the major chords is basically the bottom half of the G shape chord. That means you can also play the major and minor 7th notes too, using your ring or middle finger. It’s a surprising easy, yet uncommon, way to play 7th chords.
