1 Thessalonians explained. CHapter 5 of the book of Thessalonians is one of the most important passages in the new testament. It concerns the day of the Lord and it has very significant implications for believers.
When people say peace and safety, then sudden destruction comes upon them. This is why we need to comfort one another and be watching for the signs of the end as its imminece approaches faster and faster.

It seems that vs 10 could be an allusion to the Rapture (whether we're alive or dead -- awake or asleep) we will live together with him (be caught up in the Rapture). Since sleeping can be a euphemism for death as in the previous chapter that is specifically speaking of the Rapture, it seems possible.
