Basically i learned it this way and it helped me a lot : Major : W-W-H-W-W-W-H Minor : W-H-W-W-H-W-W W : Whole Step (2 semitones) H : Half Step (One Semitone) Also you can remember that by saying : They both have that ( W-W-H-W-W ) But major has another (W-H) at the end And minor starts with (W-H)

After learning c major scale for like 10 minutes (with finger positions) then finding this fact and the comments on this vid LITERALLY made scales incredibly easy and I had to subscribe comment and like, Im so lucky to have found this early on in learning piano

Even better: you do not need to remember anything. If you forget, you can just look at the piano and get the pattern. For major, just start at C and look at every white note. For minor, start at A and look at every white note.

Question. To learn this, I'm self teaching. So where should I start to learn this? Should I start with scales? Or chords? If so what chords?

If you're already familiar with note names on the piano, you could try to use this formula and challenge yourself by writing down the note names in all major scales, on all twelve keys. Book-wise, I would recommend Skills in Scales. It has scales for all Major and minor keys and tells you which fingers you should use to improve dexterity. It also has chord cadences to get you familiar with chords in each key. Hope this helps!

Or you could smth a lot simpler by remembering to cross over the 3rd, 4th, then back to 3rd. 3,4,3 pattern

This formula won't work at all... Learn major scales like this way... C - natural G - 1# ( sharps) D - 2# A - 3# E - 4# B - 5# F - 1 b (flat) Bb - 2 b Eb - 3b Ab - 4b Db - 5b Gb - 6 b....... This is the better way to understand and memorize...

It’ not magic. Everybody knows this formula. The magic is the technique. You didn’t explain when to cross over the thumb. It’s different in each of these 2 scales.
