Tom Talks are an extremely informational weekly VLOG. I will be touching on a wide variety of topics applicable to a variety of species in your area. Fishing tips, techniques, presentations, locations and more, all here.
Walleye fishing is often thought of as a sit and wait style of fishing! In reality that statement couldn't be farther from the truth! SPEED AND EFFICIENCY are two of my favorite words in my fishing vocabulary. Learn to fish fast and efficiently and you will absolutely catch more fish.
In this VLOG I will discuss seasonal movements and how you efficiently hunt fish throughout the season using both sonar and presentations to find and catch more fish.
Enjoy.

I grew up fishing in MN and then moved to ND and fished for 6 years. It opened my eyes up to walleye fishing. After living there for 6 years and fishing devil's lake and sakakawea I no longer treat walleye like some finicky fenesse fish that most Minnesotans treat them like. I fish like you say plus i pull cranks alot. One part you didn't touch base on is the really shallow weed bite. My biggest springtime walleye always come in the first weeds that pop out the water. Sometimes I'm casting right next to shore in two feet or less. I use plastics, shiver minnows, and cranks. You gotta cover water and fish the right weeds and trust your gut because sonar, or a camera will not pick those fish up. I'm gonna try power slip. bobbering my next time out. Here on MN we can only use one pole so I usually just use jigging raps when I'm hunting down fish marks and fishing them. Nice video.

Hey I’m 9 years old I live in Minnesota catching 25in walleyes and getting 17in crappies. I go to devils lake and all I caught was a 37in northern pike and getting 14in bass
@jwill9877
@jwill9877 5 лет назад
@@maiyang1803 that could be because you may have been fishing too much of a Minnesota style. It took me two years to dial in that lake. You have to fish aggressive and cover water. More often than not the bigger fish go after artificial baits. If you went there recently this fall then the pulling cranks on sunken road beds works great for big fish. Any depth you can find a road bed. They range anywhere from 5 feet to 30 feet underwater. Jigging raps at the bridges produce hogs this time of year. Also fishing towers 2 and 3 right where the rock piles end and the mud flat begins. Big walleye ambush from the edge of the rocks. Side imaging is amazing for that lake. You can see the rocks and edges of ditches and Mark a way point and make a trail. On some of my best days on that lake I've caught over a hundred walleye.

I'm a bass addict but I'm brand new to electronics. Just got a helix 7 g3 mega SI mega DI. I'm watching this series so I can better identify the fish and structure I'll be seeing soon. Also excited to try catching walleye someday. I never knew where to begin.

Love all information Thank You. I'm getting back into fishing my passed uncle and grandpa taught me how to fish however I was able to find my grandpa's boat after selling it many years ago. Now I'm trying to learn how to hook up non-stop on walleyes to get son hooked. Thanks for all advise. From Cedar Rapids, Iowa. If you have any suggestion for young kids to get into fishing please let me know?

Hey, Tom. I'm trying to piece together my season long walleye strategies for Lake Erie. I know you don't get to that lake much, probably, but I'm really looking forward to getting on the water....hopefully soon . i'm thinking this....jigging as soon as ice is off. Then casting. (mix in a bit of perch fishing), then start trolling for most of the season, then back to perch. Does this make sense? Also, I've not used planer boards before, just dipsys, but am thinking about using the inline boards this year. Could you do a video on how to use and set those up? I really enjoy your videos, your approach, the instruction, and the entertainment.

Great video Tom, I see you are using a Humminbird on your boat and in this video. What Model and why did you pick that one? Looking to upgrade my electronics.
@TomBoley
@TomBoley 6 лет назад
Brian Bittner if you are looking for a new graph I would highly recommend a humminbird helix 9 10 or 12. Either with mega imaging or without. Mapping is better. Side/down imaging is better better unit. Very few people change from a humminbird to anything else. Lot s of people change to humminbird

How do you fish fast with jig / plastics? Just find a likely spot and fan cast for a few minutes? Stick around if you get hit or move in if you don’t? I always think of jigs as a way to thoroughly work an area, not necessarily a way to cover ground. Thanks Tom. Great video!
@TomBoley
@TomBoley 6 лет назад
Dont worry about hitting every inch of a spot. If you catch a few fish then come it over

Have you ever read the book; "Spoonplugging, Your Guide To Lunker Catches by E.L. Buck Perry?" If not you should. You can find it online. He's the one that started the structure fishing revolution and he always talks about depth and speed control of your lures while fishing, which is basically what you're talking about here in this video. I'm surprised you don't use crankbaits sometimes when searching for fish. I caught my biggest walleye on a rock reef with 4 - 5 foot waves pounding in on it on a muskie bucktail and also I've had them follow my bucktails. So walleye can be very aggressive fish under the right conditions.
@TomBoley
@TomBoley 6 лет назад
+MsPrincesspaulina I do use a lot of crankbaits. It that will be discussed on another episode. I have read the old spoonplugging stuff. We now have the luxury of fishing minute structure in a matter of seconds. Technology sure changes the game.
@MsPrincesspaulina
@MsPrincesspaulina 6 лет назад
Yes technology is changing the game but the basics are still the basics. When you talk in this video about fishing slow and inefficiently you're talking about the basics, which is depth and speed control, and that is the heart of spoonplugging. You're still spoonplugging even though you're not using spoonplug lures. Spoonplugging is structure fishing, it's the basics. Sure your gps/mapping/side scan/sonar puts you on the spot on the spot but you're still structure fishing and that's spoonplugging. I'm not trying to argue or fight with you. I'm trying to point out that what you talk about in this, and many other, videos is that you're talking about spoonplugging without even realizing that you're doing it. This is why I enjoy your videos. You teach the basics of spoonplugging and help educate people. What I'm saying is, "In some ways listening to you talk is like listening to Buck Perry talk." I'll keep an eye out for the crankbait video. Thanks

Im a walleye fisherman in Nebraska and I will say you never hear of people fishing this style, may through the end of june is the best time to catch them but its all bottom bouncing or jigging. The lakes I tend to fish are just mud flat bottoms with little to no deviation in depth drastically. Every video that fishes this style on youtube tend to be people up north whether thats great lakes or dakotas, would you assume that it could work here as well or is that style more of a northern lake thing.

Tom great job I️ fish the chetek chain in may for walleyes and it’s search and destroy on the shorelines. I️ throw floating rapalas size f9 and live target lipless rattle baits to find them and it’s very effective.I️ have been looking to try the jigging raps what size should I️ use ? Keep up the videos because they are very informative. Do you plan on doing any fishing seminars at fishing shows?.....Thanks again
