Here's a detailed update on how I'm doing 7 days post-op for ACDF surgery. I talk about the actual surgery, what recovery has looked like, how much help I've needed and how well I'm doing right now.
Here's a link to the laptop stand that we got that has been great: amzn.to/2LMLj0N

I had this exact surgery done about a year ago and everything she is saying is spot on. I was apprehensive about having it done, but I am so glad I did! As soon as you wake from surgery you'll immediately notice you'll be pain free. To be honest, worst part of the surgery was the sore throat afterwards when trying to swallow. I have since fully recovered with no issues. Having the surgery was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Thanks for your video it gave me confidence. I just had ACDF surgery about 5 hours ago. I'm doing pretty well. My throat is not near as sore as I thought it would be. Right now, I have 0 pain in my neck and incision area. However I do have some pain my shoulder blade area. Best of luck to anyone having it.

@@MetalDetroit My doctor told me a few weeks and told me I could drive whenever I got off the meds. However it's been a year and a half since I've had the surgery and the pain is coming back in my neck. I don't know if I'm sleeping wrong or if something else is wrong. So I've started back wearing my neck brace when I sleep to see if that will help.

I’m a month out from this surgery. Wish I would have watched this before having it done. I was so nervous to have it done, but it was literally a walk in the park. The sore throat was awful, but the surgery was nothing. I took Tylenol for pain for about 3 days and that was it. The hardest part of the whole thing is learning to relax and not overdo things. My incision is only about 3” long. To hear you say you had staples was the only thing that was different from my surgery. This is a great informative video and everything you said is spot on. Thanks for sharing this!

This is a very hard decision for me to make, but I am hurting so bad. All through my shoulders all the way down through my spine and my neck and I have pain and numbness on both arms running down. Degenerative arthritic changes are causing my diagnoses. I’m inspired by how well you’re doing. My doctors have said that running and doing other vigorous activity is not a good idea for me. It must feel great to be told you can continue doing things as you used to. If you have any ideas on what I can do to at least get some meaningful exercise going, I would welcome your response. @@dfy hey there! I’m doing so much better since having the surgery! We’re still not entirely sure what caused the disc prolapses (I had 3). The surgeon said I may have just had weak ones from birth and they eroded over time. My C5-C6 was so damaged it was bashing up against the nerves in my spine and causing some serious nerve pain in my arm and in the shoulder area and neck. Most of that completely went away post surgery. Due to the nerve damage a lot of my right arm is still numb in places, but I got used to it and it doesn’t bother me much anymore. The surgery itself went really well and I definitely recommend taking it.

I am on day 5 and still eating cream of wheat and oatmeal. Food gets stuck. I have to wash it down with water and hard swallowing. The incision doesn't hurt. My arm nerve pain is gone. My arms feel the same weight. I still need a little meds but only 2 times a day. I must of done too much today cause It felt fine when I woke up then my arm hurt a four afters after I woke. So I went 9 hrs with out pain meds.

Really good to see this. I have watched them all about 10 times. I have 6 days until this happens along with right hand (dominate) carpal tunnel surgery and to be honest I am scared to death. The feeling I have now is one that I have experience only a couple times in my life and that is when I was in Afghanistan knowing that we were about to get into something serious. There is so much stuff out there to scare the crap out of you, but this is a little more uplifting. Thank you for putting this out!

Thank you for the fantastic video. I am scheduled for my ACDF with fusion @ C5 & C6. I have lived with the tingling, numbness, for far to long. Thank you for the words of encouragement. I am meeting with my surgical team next week, thank you for the mention of the nerve thing. My surgeon is an Ortho who specializes in spine.

How is your trigeminal neuralgia? I'm to be scheduled for C4/C5 fusion for bone spurs causing cervical stenosis. I also have trigeminal neuralgia, but the neurosurgeon said that was a separate thing. Are you having your trigeminal neuralgia fixed?

Thank you for your thoughts always tough when it is talking about your own body. I'm two days out from my surgery just one level though. Similar things as you have said although going in I had a lot of pain. On day two I have cut back my pain killers, really to the point of weening off of them. The surgery is a life changer in my case. Thank you again.
