Hi everyone! This is my 1 week update from cervical artificial disc replacement at C5-6. Feel free to ask if you have any questions or if I help in any way!
I am 1 week in from my C7 T1 replacement recovery. I was suffering for months with these sharp pains shooting down my right arm. I was very nervous going in, but all your videos have been very informative and helpful. I seem to be in the same place you were after week 1. Thank you for these.💪
Just had c5&6 done. I’m 2 days out and I’m feeling pretty good. I am not having any neuropathy in my head so far. Was living with Constant neuropathy in my head every day for the past 8 months.Constant headaches….gone as of right now. I am not in terrible pain in my back now. It’s amazing how this seems to have helped this quickly.Thank you for your post .I am normally a very active person. I’m lucky we have a big huge yard and garden. I walked outside yesterday to look at my honey bees and garden.Trying to take it easy .
Thanks for sharing your experience. Last Tuesday, I had my discs replaced, C5/6 and C6/7. Discs installed were Nuvasive Simplify .Other than swallowing issues, I feel pretty good. The bandage I used was the CVS Health, Mepilex Border Post Op, 4x8. Thanks again.
Hey John. How’s it going with the Simplify discs? Debating having these installed or the same one the guy in this video did. I have a choice but prefer the place that does the Simplify. It’s super hard to find much info on it though.
@@brianshelford2099 Hi Brian. I feel pretty good. Have not had any issues. For more info, I recommend visiting the NuVasive site. Also, there are several videos of post-op experiences on RU-vid.
Hi there. This set of videos is great, thanks. I have just had pritty much the same done as you in the UK. A new disc replacement on c5-6. My symptoms were neck amd throat tightness and pain, nerve pain in the neck, in the shoulder, down the arm and into the hand, the thumb and first finger. 10 days since my op, and i dont yet have any improvements:(:(. The neck is stiff, which must be from the op,.but the pain and nerve pain is still in the neck, shoulder and arm/hand. Should i expect a long process or am i thinking it was shoulder related from a old dislocated shoulder rather than steming from my neck, even tho the c5-6 was pinched too Thanks.
Appreciate you doing this videos. I myself have this same issue and have been contemplating the surgery for two years now for either the fusion or the disc replacement. Keep letting us know how you progress. It really helps. Thanks!
Glad to help! I'll be posting updates in the near future, but am really happy with the surgery and recovery thus far. Good luck with your decision! At the end of the day, you know yourself the most and will make the best decision for yourself when the time is right.
@@wojciechg792 Would you be able to provide an update to how you are feeling? I'm also in the beginning process of shopping around for a surgeon looking into disc replacement/Arthroplasty. Would you be able to speak on the cost of the procedure. Previously I got a rough estimate for a fusion from BCBS costing somewhere around $5,000 out of pocket. Been researching online that disc replacement is typically cheaper than fusion. Hoping this is the case. Thanks for your help and hope you stay well.
@@nrp5791 Yes I will be doing an update sometime this week, but in general I am feeling great and have started activity last week. I had insurance cover most of the bill, which ended up being roughly $100,000, but I only paid up to my max out of pocket. So I didn't look into cost comparisons because I was going to pay the same amount either way, but I can't imagine the cost difference being extreme, aside from hardware differences. Hope that helps.
I had my c5-c6 disc replaced on 2-6-24 I feel like a new person my follow up is in a month with the doctor my throat score still I totally feel way different now!!
@@patept3709 I don't have much to offer as I I didn't choose a fusion. I didn't choose the fusion because I was concerned about future disc degeneration of the levels next to my C5-C6 had I done a fusion, but everyone's different!
@@patept3709 Depends on your age and severity / comorbid issues. Speak to you doctor or look for videos here on ACDF. Take note that spines riddled with osteophytes pose high risk disc replacements and may lead to a disk replacement fusing anyway.
Thanks for the Vlog - I have a bad disk , well 3 of them in my neck. Thinking about the surgery - been trying to rehab to avoid surgery 🤷🏼♂️ been two months , kinda tired of dealing with it.
I know the feeling. The surgery has given me my life back so I am extremely happy to have gone through with it. Get lots of opinions, and if the pain is something that is affecting your life then the surgery would be something to consider. Good luck!
Thank you for sharing this. I know this was a couple of years ago, but if you can remember, how was your activity level, how much the first week or two, were you able to do on your own? What didn’t you do on your own?
First few weeks I would just walk as my activity, I think I started driving after 2 weeks if I remember. Then I resumed normal exercise 6 weeks post-op. There wasn't much I couldn't do on my own, it was just about not lifting anything heavy (even my cat) or doing anything strenuous.
Thanks! My guess is that my recovery would be longer and a bit more painful than how it has gone thus far. It has been a really good experience and I am just hoping it continues!
