public land is a lot of work too jeff!!!. i dont know any guys on private land who will hike in a mile with a stand and gear then set their stand (before light) and then take it all down and hike out another mile. that's all if you dont shoot a deer, then the real work begins a mile or two in on public. i run cameras all late summer and fall on several pieces of public land, although i know its frowned upon. so some guys do put in a lot of work to hunt public as well, the miles on my boots can attest to that

I understand not using a climber on private, but it's my only option since I hunt public land.

Thanks for all your great videos. I live in Southern Minnesota as well. This evening from watching your videos and what I’ve learned I got my 1 buck. The K.O.W. King of the Woods tonight about 6:05pm. He was chasing a doe. I have 11 does come in and finally his doe came in and she looked by and here he came. He crossed the creek and stopped to smell her. Well that’s all I needed. He was quartered away. I had a perfect shot he went about 10 yards and he was done. Thanks again, keep the great videos coming.

Mr. Jeff, thanks for all of your information for the past year! I appreciate your HuntWise app used it this past week on Wednesday as it said that it was 99% sure that I would see a deer. Well 8 hours of this sit I got an eight point 173 lbs beast! Thanks from SC!

Idk about all states but ik here in Illinois its unlawful to pre hang treestands on public land all stands must be brought in and removed on the day of the hunt
@balrog006
@balrog006 11 месяцев назад
I’m Michigan you can mount/strap a stand without screwing it into the tree/so long as it’s tagged with your name and lisc#, similar in surrounding states. That restriction sounds like the exception.

Had an awesome public land hunt yesterday. Had a buck AGGRESSIVELY chase a doe around me in a 50 yard radius diameter grunting the whole entire way.

On my 40 acres we have no valley or spot where a deer won’t be in a given time. Bedding is to the north so a south wind would be a no go. Our terrain is mostly flat with some lower areas. I’m definitely thinking of hiring a consultant to walk my land to help me improve it more than what I have already. We have very no pressured state land to the north, but can’t get to it without walking through the clear cut (2yr old) we have on our north 15 acres of our property. Some very nice spots out there though to hunt.

They seem to be moving late morning here.Passed a 3 year old earlier in the week.And had a good one sneak up on me the day before.9:15 he was 14 feet under my stand.Can’t get away with movement when they are that close.The beans are gone .Now I have to deal with 25 acres of standing corn.I like the just in time going in also🤷🏻

I hunt public land. Have two climbers pre hung but unfortunately I have to put cable locks. But still a lot less noise then hanging and packing it in and out. Also there are several other stands that have been left for years. I occasionally hunt them as well. Here's a question, do deer look up? My buddy and I dispute this all the time. I like to go above 15 ft because I think that while they look up they don't look above 10 ft. He swears that they will notice even if we are way up. I don't think so what do you think? I have never visually seen a deer look way up at me.
@DFH13019X
@DFH13019X 11 месяцев назад
Depends on how far they are when they catch the movement. If they’re further away, it’s easier to see because of the angle. Then they might be paying attention when they get closer or they may never come near you.

When is it time to get out of your morning stand during the rut? I’ve been caught with deer bedding around me and then I’m stuck or I spook the bedding area when I get down from the stand.

Hey Jeff. Wanted to hear your thought on weather effecting the run. I was out on Halloween. Great day. Deer were definitely chasing. But where I’m at it’s about to warm up a little bit. Will the bucks just not care and deal with being warmer? Hopefully you understand what I’m saying. Thank you!

Jeff, if you happen upon this comment, I have a question, though im sure its a trivial question to most. On Huntwise, I noticed here in Kentucky, Friday November 10, Huntwise forecast lists "pre rut" activity as a factor, Saturday November 11, (opening day) the factor has changed to "lockdown". But I often hear you speak of pre rut, peak rut, lockdown etc. I know its not an exact science, as mentioned the relation between "someone who artificially inseminates horses, each year the horse will become receptive at the same time", last year bucks were chasing doe hot and heavy November 14, 2022. Does all locations go from "pre rut" to "lockdown" on Huntwise? Not meaning to be critical, genuinely curious and cant figure it out.

GOOD STUFF. If you happen to get busted while hunting, and you hear a deer blow at you, do you think the best option is to hunt that stand another day or just wait it out a few hours?
@Bow-Man
@Bow-Man 11 месяцев назад
I know you're not asking me but... Oct 18th i had a doe at 20yds blow and stomp when the wind swirled an hour before dark. She ran right back into the bedding area blowing the whole way. Ten minutes later a mature 10 point came right down the same trail and gave me a 15 yard shot. I thought about leaving after the doe blew... Definitely stay and hunt !!! Good luck from WNY 👍

Jeff, What’s your opinion on quiet kat bike for access to the back of 150 acres thru a 2 acre foodplot in the middle of hardwoods before and after dark? Limited on roads as of now.

There's a lot of unknowns here, like whether or not you're creeping in on an adjacent bedding area or not or if you hunt in thick cover. Depending on time/efficiency I just tend to step lighter and move slower in general. Huge bonus if it was wet and didn't frost. If it's that dry crinkly stuff I just take it around half speed of what I normally do and add pauses every second or third step to hear if anything is reacting to me. There's so many mild elevation changes and cover so thick there's no way they'll see me before they hear me. What I don't recommend, however, is trying to "sound like a squirrel" or some similar nonsense. That's magical thinking.

Thanks for all the info and videos! Hoping to put it all together this year for success. Bow stand is set up from what I have learned here! I know the game is to never hunt the wrong wind, but question. On a relatively flat area, can you walk in as thermals are rising (gray light?) with the wrong wind? I ask considering a wind that's 7mph or less. Can thermals overcome the wrong wind direction a low mph? Thanks in advance!

The fact is the law is you have to contact the landowner for permission which they did not! So that was the whole problem especially when they have trespassed before!
