Yea Jesus said that whilst on the cross because although He was without sin, He took upon Himself the sins of mankind. The punishment that every single one of us deserved according to the sins we have committed, was all on Jesus Christ. We all know that sin separates us from God, so when Jesus took upon Himself all the sins of mankind, he FELT distant and separated from the Father, not literally, but He felt that way.
