Carbon ”off-setting” is bullshit. How do you know that the trees will not be cut down? It’s a big scam. People cutting down their forests to sell ”off-setting” by planting trees once again. Only thing that will make a difference is pumping co2 underground. Stays there for millions of years.
@@EvanAviator Even if it's true that flights are more efficient per passenger per mile it's still better to just... not fly at all. It's not like he would have driven there otherwise he just wouldn't have gone.
Looking forward to it! Hope there'll be some flight reviews coming up! There were some real gems in your last year... :) Can't wait to see what the next 12 months hold!
Tells why he ignored the channel for a year, then procedes to tell us how he will make an effort to not abandon this channel, then does exactly that during what can only be described as the most eventful and yet completely and totally boring year possible. And yes I did my best to word this comment like something you'd hear in an HAI video
3 years have gone by…. Nothing lol. I did recently discover and binge the entire podcast, hopefully he’s still interested in it. Enjoying Jet Lag the game.
Did the math on sams co2 emissions and trees planted: Co2 emissions per km is 115g per passenger (guessing economy) - Carbon Independent. Or 184g per mile (x1.60). 184 x 210,731 = 38,774,504g or 38,774.5 kg. And a "young tree" can absorb 13 pounds (5.9kg) of carbon dioxide per year - Urban Forestry Network (I'm doing a year instead of a trees life because otherwise you'd have negative emissions for decades and young trees because that's what you're likely planting). So 38,774.5 / 5.9 equals 6,571.9 trees. However Im not sure about the cost as its unclear about what a "young tree" is but a sapling costs about $1 to plant.
Ah! The beauty of a strong passport! In my country, to visit any of the countries that you've been to, you'll be required to apply for visas months in advance and the visa application process has like a 90% rejection rate.
This was amazing! How do you pass the time on these long flights? I assume you must be doing some work if you are getting at least 1 video out a week, which is pretty amazing cause I can never get anything productive done on planes.
Sam, I love your video's and have been watching for quite some time, but let's be real... In one year you had a total emmision of 51100 kg CO2 (0,155 kg/ km) with flying alone. The average annual emmision of CO2 is 3400 kg. So you are an equally big polluter as 15 average people together. That's pretty insane. An educated person like you should know how bad this kind of behaviour is tot the environment and the planet (and you also know that CO2 compensation things are bs, Just like planting a couple of Trees). Please use your influence as a big and respected content creator to help create a sustainable world and future. How are we going to explain this to our children if we do nothing?
Hey mate - about 2 years ago you said you were going to do some behind the scenes vids on what being an educational RU-vidr is like and put them here… What happened?!? We all know what happened for most of that time - but still - What happened?!? P.S - Next time you’re on a ‘work trip’ to Australia - pop over to see us in New Zealand - Theres more green here and less red dust 😁
I too was curious, so let's do some maths to come up with an estimate: Average airliner cruise speed is around 550mph. This is cruise speed, so it'll spend a chunk of time going much slower around takeoff and landing, especially if it has to circle. Also, shorter flights may not even get up to full cruise speed. So allowing for that, let's be conservative and say he averaged 530mph while on a plane. So 211,000 miles / 530 mph = 398 hours = 16.5 days or 4.5% of a year in the air. And this is a lower bound estimate 😯 To say nothing of time in airports, en route to airports, etc, etc.
Dear god, how do I get rid of having seen a photo of you? Your narration is world class, really crazy good. But you look like a child, a rather young child. In my imagination that doesn't fit. Like having a physician whos 20 years younger then oneself. I honestly think, world class narrators just shouldn't show their faces, ever. Good luck with your degree, though. You certainly sound as if you were already the president of a university.
Have you heard of a website called myflightradar24? It lets you input your flights and keeps track of stats like miles, aircraft types, days of the week, window/middle/aisle, etc and even plots them on a map for you! That would be a cool thing to try out and I think you can make it public so people can keep up with your travels! I use it to keep track of my trips so I can occasionally look back on them!
"I'm going to put a real effort into being active on this channel" I just don't understand it. If Sam is capable of making jokes, what happens on his other youtube channels?
Yes, you should definitely include content about your travels. It doesn't have to be long with perfect editing. Just a hodge-podge. How did you like the Super Trees in Singapore? What's the food like in Rwanda? Best hotel stay. Worst hotel stay. Etc.
It would be really cool if you held meetups in some of the locations you fly to. I're sure that some of your viewers would really enjoy seeing you in person if you're in their area. I know that I'd be so excited to come by if you're back in the Netherlands.
*The reality of the rich and the poor is this: the rich invest their money and spend what is left. The poor spend their money and invest what is left"*
Interesting, most people don't understand the market moves and tend to be mislead in facts like this and always depend on Money in the Bank very bad idea
@Paige I understand the fact that tomorrow isn't promised to anyone, but investing today is a hard thing to do because I have no idea of how and where to invest in?
As a newbie investing in cryptocurrency will be best for you, I know of an investment manager, ᴍʀ ᴍɪᴄʜᴀᴇʟ ʀᴏʙᴇʀᴛ his an expert in cryptotrading investment as you don't have to under go any stress in the trades, he manages my trading.
@Roland James Exactly, money is always eager and ready to work for anyone who is already to employ it, I was able to withdraw my profit of $17,000 after investing $3,500 with Mr Michael Robert some weeks ago
"So I'm going to put a real effort into being active on this channel [...] So that's to say, see you soon on this channel, hopefully..." Whelp... (Hope you post here soon though that proper behind the scenes content sounds interesting because you travel(ed haha virus) so much
I haven't seen any 100k donation to TeamTrees, so how'd you offset this large of a CO2 footprint? Also, don't carbon-offset schemes only have a delayed impact on the environment (i.e. the years that a tree needs to grow)?
I wish I knew you lived in Sydney. I would have loved to have met you, so would heaps of other people. :( P.S. I applaud you for offsetting your carbon emissions! I really hope to see more travel stuff here, I'd love to now what goes on behind the scenes. But don't force yourself, Sam. Most of us are a patient bunch!
