A reproduction disc made by Don Wilson (me!). The original is in E condition and is believed to be an only-known-copy. The original was loaned from the John Levin collection. Levin is the maker of CPS1, an archival cylinder playback system.

Your reproduction, like always, is very nice. You got a Date for this one?

The mold is made so as soon as I have time to make one. It usually takes 2 - 6 weeks.

10" Berliner discs by Sobinov aren't that rare. I have seen at least two dozen over the years. Russian-records.com listed three copies of G.C.- 22519.

Thank you!

I also wonder how the strong distortions come about. Particularly because Sobinov's 1901 recordings in good shape, both 7" and 10", reproduce excellent on the gramophone.

Good question about the distortion. The original was independently graded as E condition, and certainly looked it. I had not played the original but will upload a proper transfer of the first copy I made (as a backup for when the mold fails). We can then compare the backup copy to the upload on Russian-Records (though I'm not as experienced with audio restoration software as whoever uploaded that copy).

Hello Don! BEAUTIFUL SONG!!!!! I am eager to listen to! And I’m in great search for old Russian discs! I am from Moscow! And a love Sobinof, Chalapin and other Russian pre revolution singers! Is it possible to buy some of them? Best wishes, Sebastian

Hi Sebastian, I do sell copies of this disc and ~200 other Berliners, but I don't think any others are Russian. You can email me at doninphilly@gmail.com for a list.

Am hey man any advice on the right Cartridge to play Edison diamond disks
@DonWilsonLabs
@DonWilsonLabs 4 года назад
Most will work but you need to rewire the cartridge to switch it to mono. Shure M44 is good, my choice is an Ortofon OM (for the budget concious).
