My seventh grade civics teacher (who sponsored the jam club and loved music) showed me this song over 5 years ago and I learned to play it on the baritone ukulele. Last night he passed away from a heart attack without having gotten to retire and leaving and wife and 16 year old son. This was the first song I heard by the Avett Brothers and they have since become my favorite band. I went to their concert last summer and I didn’t know it at the time, but my teacher was there too with his son. I just wanted to share his favorite quote with you, “live as if you are going to die tomorrow, learn as if you are going to live forever.” Mr P, you didn’t get to live forever on earth but you have changed the lives of so many young people. I am forever grateful for your impact on my life and I’m praying for your family. Love, Lily
But in his inspiration to you and i'm sure many others does he not live forever in some way? Passing on that knowledge and fellowship is a great way to live on through your legacy
This is one of the best replies I've ever seen! I laughed my butt off! Maybe it's because I just love this video....this and the dog hooked me on the Avett's!
"Every once in a while in life, you stumble upon something that grabs you, shakes you, touches you deep inside. And even in the moment, before it can fully sink in, you realize you have found that rarest of commodities in this airbrushed world of fakery and frauds: authenticity" This describes The Avett Brothers
Right there with you, Jenny!! Unfortunately, we don’t have the talent today that we were blessed with years ago. I do love these guys, though…..all are so gifted!!
@@jimmytompkins7750 the old videos are literally my happy place - who knew they would write the 2020 USA anthem ten years ago - " Ain't it like most people (I'm no different) - we love to talk on things we don't know about" 😉👍
this video is a spiritual experience for me. I have listened to it over and over. I have traveled over 14 hours to see them and it may not compare to this. I can not believe they are not more popular but glad cause i can still get tickets to see em. This song moves through me..........
Ya -- bad choice of products to give free advertising to. Glyphosate kills butterflies and pretty much everything else. It's illegal in more than 20 countries. Should be illegal here too. From this source: www.baumhedlundlaw.com/toxic-tort-law/monsanto-roundup-lawsuit/where-is-glyphosate-banned/ Most of the glyphosate restrictions or bans throughout the world were introduced following the 2015 IARC report on glyphosate. The IARC report concluded that glyphosate is a “probable human carcinogen.” According to the report, the cancers most associated with glyphosate exposure were found to be non-Hodgkin lymphoma and other hematopoietic cancers. The report further concluded that glyphosate exposure caused DNA and chromosomal damage in human cells, as well as genotoxic, hormonal and enzymatic effects in mammals. Other glyphosate studies have linked the chemical to a number of health issues, including, but not limited to ADHD, Alzheimer’s Disease, Autism, Birth Defects, various forms of cancer, Celiac Disease, Colitis, Heart Disease, Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome, Kidney Disease, Liver Disease, and Parkinson’s Disease.
This song never gets old for me. My introduction to The Avett Brother almost 10 years ago. Still my forever chase song. Still love watching this video every time.
I have done carpentry work for Scott several times and have to say he is one of the most humble individuals I have ever met.I have always felt welcome and appreciated when around him.I love their music but still would love to hear them sing "Old Violin" by Johnny Paycheck.lol.Love you guys.
10,000 words or 10 million will never be enough to say how much I love these boys. They are so talented, so down to earth, so in tune with how to make music anybody can appreciate & relate to. I've been blessed to see them live twice, & if I could I would just drop everything & follow them around so I could see them live every time they played.
I nearly lost two of my fingertips nearly a year ago. This is a song I used to cover, and I happened to hear it a few days ago. I stopped playing guitar after my accident due to some nerve damage that made the pain unbearable to pinch the strings. The inspiration I get from these guys is so pressing that I went against myself and picked the guitar again. I had no problem picking the strings again. These guys keep me in check in my times of need. What a rarity they are. Thank God that I get to share time with them while I'm on this planet.
So wierd. I awoke this morning thinking about this very video. Then i get a twitter notification stating that this video was released 6 years ago today. All the universe is connected i tell ya.
brodank might just be that you are connected to your phone in ways you wouldn’t have guessed. I’m assuming out were sleeping with your phone by the bed. It’s a common phenomenon that I’ve heard of before and know nothing about.
God I love these guys!! This song gives me chills, love their voices, the simple melodies, the perfect lyrics, the simplicity of what they do that gives everything they do such an impact. Nothing but pure music, pure poetry, no bullshit. This is the way it should be.
I love how your dog pretty much stays out of the way and doesn't bother you guys until the very end of the song it's like he knew exactly when it was about to be over. And this song hits me in sooo many ways i can't even explain. 💙 it!
The Avett Brothers are simply amazing! They are solid proof that to make good music, a well-played guitar, great voices, and beautiful lyrics are good enough!
when you first watch this video you wonder about the roundup and after you listen to this song for a couple times you realize its one of the best songs you ever heard and they can sing with roundup, they can sing with anything. I will listen.
I was a groundsworker/landscaper for 10 years at several different college campuses in Southern California. So, naturally. My eyes were drawn to all that Roundup . I sprayed a shit ton of that stuff over the course of 10 years. Towards the end. I was practically drinking it cuz of the wind blowing when Id spray. Someone over there is a gardener. Cuz that stuff gets rid of weeds better than anything. Its incredible stuff. I mean, trust me. We tried hand pulling weeds for a long time. Unless you pull the taproot, Its growing back. Roundup dude. Spray and done with it. Come back later and apply 3 inches minimum of mulch. No weeds for at least a few months. I dont work for Roundup I just used it a lot and it works like magic. Not on nutsedge " nutgrass" but all broadleaf weeds are toast. Good song btw. It was terrific. I saw the guy on the left play guitar with a girl on a radio show in Seattle ( YT) video. Of Elliot Smith Between the Bars. One of my fav covers of all time. It was amazing. God Bless.❤
😂 Ditto except my 10 was down Louisiana in New Orleans and across from lake Pontchartrain directly from the shop was a favorite customer of mine called Gate mouth Brown an old blues guitar singer who make me sit on his front door steps and dig out of a garbage bag of half apple cigar tobacco and half weed 😂and we'd smoke before I started cutting his yard. But I've worked several places and several irrigation companies that adds 5 more and I don't like chemicals if you're a landscape artist there's 100 ways to avoid useing it you just need to be thrifty up front to save bookoos in the end! I hate cutting grass it sux 😂 So to get where I want without hassles I take the dropped sticks and branches and set piles up as screens about 4 feet to let trees and shrubs take it over 😂 witch makes eventually more dropped sticks branches leaves That chemical runs off into bodies of waters harmfully ❤
I can't help it but these guys are like the Dream Men... so talented, so beautiful of lyrics, so amazing to look at..... to be around their campfire.... their hearts so right, their words so piercing.i think they are from another dimension to awaken the hearts of humanity... personally. hehe StayFree OneLove
Ten thousand words swarm around my head Ten million more in books written beneath my bed I wrote or read them all when searchin' in the swarms Still can't find out how to hold my hands And I know you need me in the next room over But I am stuck in here all paralyzed For months I got myself in ruts Too much time spent in mirrors framed in yellow walls Ain't it like most people? I'm no different We love to talk on things we don't know about Ain't it like most people? I'm no different We love to talk on things we don't know about And everyone around me shakes their head in disbelief And says I'm too caught up They say young is good and old is fine And truth is cool but all that matters Is that you have your good times But their good times come with prices And I can't believe it when I hear the jokes they make At anyone's expense except their own Would they laugh if they knew who paid? Ain't it like most people? I'm no different We love to talk on things we don't know about Ain't it like most people? I'm no different We love to talk on things we don't know about And after we are through ten years Of making it to be the most of glorious debuts I'll come back home without my things 'Cause the clothes I wore out there I will not wear 'round you And they'll be quick to point out our shortcomings And how the experts all have had their doubts Ain't it like most people? I'm no different We love to talk on things we don't know about Ain't it like most people? I'm no different We love to talk on things we don't know about Ain't it like most people? I'm no different We love to talk on things we don't know about Ain't it like most people? I'm no different We love to talk on things we don't know about
I’ve listened to this version so many times. And the record version. This version brings more feeling to the song. And the album version is amazing!!! But this is true!!
always amazing. always genuine. I've been to a lot of concerts and this was one of my favorites... no lights, no auto tune. just pure talent and sentiment...
8 years...still awesome. Love you guys, love this song. People use round-up. Lots of people, lots of weeds, lots of round up. Poison ivy in the piedmont of NC is savage... Some commenters think it's a pesticide? Wow. Quit judging everything.
The dog makes my day,she is beautiful with them. Thank you Avett Brothers I was listening and laughing .you BROUGHT ME SO MUCH JOY TONIGHT! thank You thank You .

These gentlemen are super talented. Everyone who watches this video...get anything you can of theirs! I had the pleasure of being 1 foot from them in Roanoke. Time of my life!
My bf just introduced me to these guys. If I had no other reason to Love him, this gift would do it. (Thers's plenty, plenty reasons I Love him--this just ices the cake. 💗)
Sometimes when I’m laying in bed I think of when I was talking of things I didn’t know about and I feel stupid and foolish. If I dwell on it too much I can’t go into public.
I love everything bout this video and song. Makes me miss my home in Kentucky. I've been stuck up in Columbus OH for a year now but in about two months I'm moving back home. I cant wait. Thank u for the beautiful music Avett brothers
Absolutely love this video! Nothing as pure as a work trailer, bare feet, shorts and boots topped off by the most adorable dog in a better-than-concert performance 🥰. Sorry that I just discovered them!
THIS SONG IS CALLED TEN THOUSAND WORDS; IT HAS TEN THOUSAND LIKES; IT WAS UPLOADED IN 2010; THE SYNCHRONICITIES THAT ARE HAPPENING TO ME IN THIS MOMENT AND THIS ENTIRE DAY HAVE BEEN BLOWING MY EVER LOVING MIND. 🤯🕉☤
beautiful lol , i chatted with guys , super easy going , very nice . we have to get the word out better , ia assume that everyone commenting on the ROUND UP is getting word out lol
Gosh! It makes me feel like I'm just drifting. Having worries yet not caring about them...They are so amazing in concert. I can't wait to get to see them again!
Scott is so gruff and very straight forward and mesmerizing and Seth comes in with an effortlessly beautiful voice, like always. The two together is the best thing to happen to music ever. Ever.
These boys are truth speakers. Just finished facilitating a lesson on the connection between Music and Poetry to my middle school studs. Most of them hadn't heard the band, now...dang!
