Agnes, I cannot thank you enough for your kind videos. They have been very encouraging and I know they took a lot of work. Thank you for showing the 1 year healing process - it is so appreciated. Week 6 beginning and every day a little better :) Thanks again its a marathon not a sprint as you know too well.

Hi! Thank you so much for documenting your recovery, your videos are very helpful and gives me a positivity for my recovery. I'm now at 5 weeks in a boot. Do you know what the size of the gap in the tendon was at the initial stages of the injury? Thanks.

glad to see you great! I am your fan. Unfortunately I re ruptured my AT 3 weeks ago in Bahamas. I was on vacation, and there was a hidden step under the sand. I stepped on it only with my toes and part of my foot, my Achilles tendon fell and I heard the snap :( So back to the beginning.. but I feel strong and remain positive.

Oh no! So sorry to hear that! I can imagine it is easy to have mishaps like that especially on vacation... At least you now know what to expect second time around. Glad to hear you are staying positive. Hang in there, with your good attitude the time will pass by quicker. Crossing fingers for no setbacks this time around! :)

Agnes, Your channel helps me a lot. I still take a look at your video e.g. rehab exercises from time to time. Just wondering if you have tried or heard about the shockwave treatment? Can shockwave treatment help with scar tissue a lot? Can achilles tendon become much thinner after the treatment? Thanks!

Hi Agnes. Super inspirational series of vid's. God Bless you for taking the time to post. It is helping me cope through my 1st 3 weeks since my rupture. I have been placed in a hard cast with 3 more weeks to go(6 total). Then a boot for 2 weeks + PT at that point. It appears that life is back to normal and you are fully functional. Do you think that the thickness from the healed side will eventually subside ? Or permanently like a broken bone that heals? Thank you so much!

thank you for sharing your experience. You had a amazing recovery from this injury. When you start PT, how often you see your physiotherapist during the rehab process?

HI Agnes, Thanks for sharing all your videos. I ruptured my Achilles 7/18/2017. I opted for nonoperative treatment as well. It has been encouraging to see your videos. I'm on week #2, in my case I was allowed to be weight bearing from day 1 so hope my doctor didn't mess me up by not asking me to use crutches. I hope to be able to go back to Insanity and P90X as you were able to during month #9. I hope to reply back to this message on 7/19/2018 and say that I was able to achieve similar results!

Felix - sorry to hear about your rupture. Early weight bearing is good for healing according to the latest studies. I was following Dr. Twaddle protocol, which started weight bearing bit later, but I am in touch with Dr. Twaddle and this is one of the questions I have for him - why not start weight bearing from the beginning. If I ever rupture my other leg (and I truly hope I do not!!!!), I would probably choose to weight bear much earlier. Looking forward to your reply in 2018 and hearing you are back to the workouts! If all goes well p90x/p90x3 are definitely doable first. Insanity requiring so much jumping at a stretch and thus putting more stress on the tendons for longer periods of time - bit later. Good luck to you! :)

Agnes S reporting back... I'm at week 6 now and had my check in with doctor. He performed Thompson test and tendon seems to have attached. He was happy with the progress. He removed one of two splints in the boot and heading to PT next week. I was happy to see foot move during Thompson check. His protocol calls for boot to be on another 2-3 weeks. That was a bit differ from yours (that would be wearing boot through week 8-9). Hoping to keep progressing! Will check back in after I have been in PT for 4 weeks. Again, thx for documenting your story!

Agnes S Once again, thanks for posting all these videos. It’s been 8 months since my injury. I’ve done ok in recovery. I was not able to be as dedicated during PT and perhaps have not regained the strength that I should have had at this point. All in all though, doing well. I’m starting P90X3 this week. Doctor cleared it.

Oh my! Your jumping makes me cringe, as I am in Week 5 of a terrible tendinitis. While it is not a rupture like yours, I will watch all of your videos and take what I can. Your journey (as much as I have watched so far) gives me hope. I have done all of the recommendations from my podiatrist, my physician, and my two physical therapists, and yet, the inflammation flares up, and the pain is equal to (or worse) than my four c-sections.

Sorry to hear about your tendinitis. It can be quite frustrating. Check out this from gmb: gmb.io/feet/ I used to follow a lot of their articles and videos and was incorporating (and still do) whatever was appropriate for my injuries. Hope you find something that helps you.

Hi congratulations on recovery, and thanks for videos very helpful. I'm 3 weeks into recovery. Did you have any accidents in your first few weeks like putting weight on your foot?
@agnes76atr
@agnes76atr 7 лет назад
Sorry about your rupture. I, thankfully, did not have any accidents during my recovery. I was extremely cautious the first few months. I see lots of people that use scooters having accidents, so if you use one, please be careful! I was using iWalk 2.0, so had no need for a scooter.

Your videos give hope. Glad to see you've recovered well! I'm at week 3 non surgical route. Did you wait until cast was off before you got the iwalk? I notice I'm video you had boot on in review. I'm currently still in cast. Thanks!

Kitries- sorry about your rupture.. I had temporary cast for 2 days only (half cast put in ER room). I was put in a boot with toes pointing down at the first doctor's office visit - 2 days after rupture. I ordered iWalk on amazon and was using it immediately on day 3 after rupture while wearing a boot. I know people wearing casts use iWalks as well though. Good luck with your recovery!

Hi! Thank you so much for documenting the whole journey! it's very helpful. I also wanted ask if you can feel any difference interns of athletic performance from before the injury, if the Achilles tendon look much now different now compare to before the injury, and if you will pick non-operative over surgery if you could choose again

Hi Agnes, I've got injured playing soccer and my doctor will proceed non operative treatment as you did. I just not 100% sure if my injury is a total or particial because is about 1.cm gap in my ultrasound. I've reading about this injury and some say that if the gap is less than 1cm it's considered particial. Do remember how was your gap injury in your ultrasound? Thanks for your videos. Great job.
@agnes76atr
@agnes76atr 6 лет назад
Hi, Sorry to hear about your injury! I am not a doctor, but from what I know if you have a complete gap, meaning no parts of the achilles are attached to each other, then it is a complete rapture. The gap size does not determine whether it is complete or partial. You could have 0.5cm or 4cm gap in a complete rapture. Partial rapture just means there is still some attachment in the tendon. I had a complete rupture. My gap was very minimal according to my doc after my first ultrasound. The doc did not even state the measurement. The documentation just states: minimal gap. When my doc plantar flexed my foot (toes pointing down) during the first ultrasound, the ends of my tendon were meeting. Your ultrasound description should state complete or partial rapture I would imagine. Your doc should be able to clarify it. Good luck with your recovery!

Agnes S Thanks for your message. I'm gonna talk to the doc about it. Thanks all the best for you.

Hey I went non surgical as well, and it has been a year. I still can't do single leg calf raises with my ruptured side. I know it has healed a lot so far but I'm worried. I have slacked on rehabilitation maybe that's why?
@agnes76atr
@agnes76atr 7 лет назад
What does your physical therapist say about it? I was like a nerd with my daily 1-2 hrs rehab and I believe that helped me see results fast. Are you doing eccentric calf raises with straight and bent legs? These helped me with my single calf raises. You might want to check with your doc and PT to make sure you did not heal long. If stretching is introduced too early, or plantar flexion boot or cast are applied too late after rupture, one can heal long and that causes lack of power in the injured leg. Hopefully this is not your case, but I would get it evaluated.
