Seeing how much yall enjoyed this battle, you guys HAVE to watch The Last Kingdom. Uhtred is a better Jon Snow and there are so many awesome battles like this one
Batman is suitable sometimes, Arya’s story is inspired directly from Bruce Wayne’s character. Daughter of a rich and powerful family, they die tragically, she travels the world as a poor person and learns from criminals, then is trained by a secret assassin group.
@@alicia1465 yes! My favorite three battles. Hardhome, Battle of Bastards and the Long Night. Although I do like Spoils of War season 7 between Dany and Jamie Lannister.
It may seem cowardly, but Ramsey is honestly a way more effective commander than Jon in this battle. Jon gives approximately 0 orders. He's not a commander in this fight; he's a warrior. It's badass looking but poor leadership. Ramsey controls every aspect of this battle until the Vale's arrival.
This is a sad but excellent point. Jon is Ned Stark 2.0. He's honest and forthright to a fault. Unfortunately that is not enough to be an effective leader. In his one previous command, his men mutiny and kill him! A better leader would not have misread the situation so badly.
@@gunkulator1 You realize Ned was actually an excellent battle commander? He was great in Robert's rebellion and the Greyjoy Rebellion. Show Jon is nothing like Ned lol. Dude was just dumb, especially after his resurrection. The writers didn't know how to write nuanced characters after they stopped using the books.
@@nostalgicbliss5547 Ned had the advantage of numbers then. Tyrion calls the Greyjoy Rebellion "stupid" because they were so badly outnumbered. Ned's inability to read the situation also costs him his life. Ned and Jon are parallel characters who value honor and family above all else. While noble, that's not a winning combination in the long run.
@@gunkulator1 How is it not a winning combination when the Stark's basically won the game in the end on the show? What did Tywin's pragmatism and ruthlessness get him in the end? Even in the books you have so many northerners still loyal to the Starks cause of what Ned represented. And Ned lost cause he could not bear to see children suffer for the sins of their family. He was still struggling with PTSD because of Roberts rebellion and everything that happened with his sister and Elia Martell and her kids.
@@gunkulator1 There is a huge difference between a commander and a schemer. Ned misread the situation in the context of political schemes, which he wasn't used to from ruling his own court. However, commanding soldiers in a battle takes an entirely different skillset than political intrigue and I'm pretty sure the books portray Ned as a very capable commander. Similarly, I am quite certain that Littlefinger, who is an excellent schemer, would be fairly useless as a military commander.
Couple small details about Danny some people pointed it out! When she’s talking to the masters, her eyes slightly shift in the background, you can see drogon flying, also when drogon lands, she actually points to where she wants him..showing how much control she has over him now. So cool!
Mormonts are the secret MVPs of this whole show, there is not a single one that isn't wholesome. I just wish we had had a chance to see Lyanna's mom, who died ambushed at the red wedding.
“Take pictures and send them to Theon” Pudgey once again you are inside my head 😂😂😂 what I wouldn’t give to see Sansa sending pics of a busted up Ramsey to Theon omg
Notice how the soldiers surrounding Jon when he emerges and gasps for air are Bear Island soldiers (they all have long hair and beards)... those 62 soldiers proved their worth, they saved Jon's life! It's one of my favorite details of the whole series. Edit: Also notice that the shield Jon used to stop Ramsay's arrows had Bear Island's sigil. Another great detail!
The shield that John picks up inside Winterfell as he is facing Ramsey is a bear island shield! Meaning 1 of Lady Mormonts 30 men made it into the castle.
You should watch some behind the scenes of big battles like these, the way they make and edit these is insane, and yes that Jon Snow camera movement was all in one shot no cuts🔥
Don’t normally comment on these videos but I have to be honest, I was refreshing your page every minute today hoping there would be a reaction for this episode! So so good! I can’t wait for more videos!
I‘ll never understand how ppl can think that Jon is a good strategist. Fighting prowess? Definitely. Martial thinking? Nah. 6x09 clearly proves that. Of course it looks cool if you as the leader fight alongside your troops, but as every person knows who ever played a strategy game, if your general dies your troops lose direction and morale. Especially if you’re some kind of figure head the troops have rallied behind.
Battle of the Bastards is a recreation of the Battle of Cannae between Rome and Hannibal. It was the worst defeat of the Roman Republic in their entire history and Hannibal's military tactics are still studied . They did a great job recreating it, although in Roman history, there were many, many more soldiers. As Sherlock Homes said once, "There is nothing new under the sun, Watson. It's all been done before"
Sansa: JUST -- DON'T DO WHAT HE *WANTS* YOU TO DO. Jon: *runs recklessly into no man's land for rickon* Sansa (*watching dramatically through a pair of binoculars*): flee, you idiot, you stupid stupid man--
Sparta my thoughts were very much like yours. At the time of watching this I remember thinking... this episode is the best bit of television I have ever watched. For the record this episode is in 3rd place after completing the show.
i read that the scene where jons being trampled and struggling to get free to eventually gasping for air is him being properly reborn. hed sort of just existed tilll now but this is the moment he chose life.
Good things happen to those who wait! You two have paid your dues. You deserve to see the heroes win for a change. And yes, it was such a relief to see Ramsey go out in blood and pain.
damn I actually remembered this episode as good but now when I saw it again through this video I realised what an actual steaming pile of shit it actually is, it really is the definition of spectacle over logic
If Jon and Sands meet again in the books it will be funny to see the various lords reactions to seeing them together. Because in the books Jon looks so much like Ned that it causes some of Catelyns discomfort with him because he looks more lStark than.any of her cheating except Arya. In the books, Robb, Bran and Rick on are all red haired land blue eyed like the Tully family. Seeing Jon and Sansa standing together would give the older Lords flashbacks of Ned and Cat because the two loom so much like them.
The giant's name is Wun Wun. I believe pronounced "woon woon". I always said it like "one one" because it makes sense why he's named that. George RR Martin is a BIG New York GIANTS fan (American football), and one of his favorite players was Phil Simms who wore #11. Or # one one.
I think this is honestly THE Best Episode out of any TV show ever in History or certainly THE Best Action packed TV episode ever! I’ve been really looking forward to this reaction of yours.
Jon vs Ramsey is a warrior vs a commander. I wouldn’t call Ramsey a coward. He was a master tactician that knew he’d win if he played on Jons emotions. Jon did everything Ramsey wanted.
Ramsey: **not being a dipshit commander** “such a coward” Jon: **being a complete dumbass who lost the battle and nearly killed his entire force** “such a badass” Like come on bruh.
That was a fantastic reaction guys you took me back to 2017 as I was watching the battle for the 1st time I’ve watched a lot of reactors yours as got to be the best I’ve seen keep up the good work guys can’t wait for the last episode of season 6
The Battle Of The Bastards will go down as probably THE best battle on Television I think it rivals the Battle of Helm's deep And the little smile Sansa had when she walked out of the kennel, EPIC
What did we all expect Ramsay to say in this meeting? Did we expect him to surrender? That would not go with his character. Hes always super confident. And at this point, he has reason to feel confident. He has the bigger army he has the castle of winterfell he has the advantage.... So he was cocky in the meeting which perfectly fits his style...
I love that Jon makes the same offer to Ramsey that Jaime makes to Rob (single combat), but we the audience view the exchange differently due to narrative circumstance.
All Sansa had to do was tell Jon the Vale was called. She might have known for sure if they were coming, but Jon could've at least timed the battle to factor in how long the ride from the Eyrie would take.
lol, it's so amusing to see both of them, especially Spartan, rage at Ramsay staying behind and commanding. That is what a CO does, he does not rush in blindly, alone and on foot, against 200 mounted foes. That scene reminded me of something Balish said in season 1: "The Starks ... fast of temper and slow of mind". And he is absolutely correct. Ned Stark died of dumb, giving Cercei advance warning about wanting to tell Robert about her children. Robb Stark died of dumb, marrying a foreigner, thus alienating his allies and kinsmen as well as angering his most important ally. And Jon Snow would have died of dumb, blindly rushing in against a superior opponent with a perfect battle plan, if not for Sansa. The male Starks are courageous and honorable, but a bit daft.
During my time in the military we were taught that there are merits both to leading from the front and from the back. Normally you want your squad leader near the back so that he is not the first to die for obvious reasons. However in the most dangerous of situations and most hopless of moments the leader must lead from the front, for why else would the others follow. The example we were given was that if you find yourselves in a minefield with no intelligence and under fire, it is the squad lead who will take the lead and guide his squad out. Jons actions here could be seen as an example of that, Jon knew they were outnumbered, he knew they were fighting aginst the odds, so he led from the front and showed his men that he would not ask of them that which he himself wont do. Such a thing does wonders for morale, and in this fight they needed all they could get. Now I still think that what he did was stupid but maybe the above is why D&D had him lead like that. Or maybe Im looking too far into it.
LOL! The argument over t-shirts was hilarious. You guys are funny when you bicker at each other. BTW, has anyone suggested a drinking game anytime Spartan says "respect" over the course of these videos. Great reaction videos, as always.
The bad news is, you just watched one of the best episodes of the entire series. The good news is, the next episode...episode 6.10 titled "The Winds of Winter"...is the best episode of the series, at least in my opinion. Get ready for so many great moments, because they're coming. Enjoy the rest of the journey!
when i watched episode 9. I need a break to handle it.... a hours later i watched Episode 10 and i need another break xD. best 2 Episodes of TV history
Peak GoT. It shows that even with mediocre writers basically everyone else involved in the production from top to bottom was elite and did their parts to perfection
Now that you've reached this point, there's a video I wanted to suggest you watch. It's called No One by Miracle of Sound. It's Ary's song. They created several videos at the end of season six.
I think Spartan should read up on some real history of warfare. I feel that a lot of his ideas about warriors, leaders and kings, even about the Spartans themselves are based on the Snyder movie and some other bits of Holywood pop-culture.
Aaah I've been so hyped to get to this and next episode 🤗 these 2 episodes to me are Game of Thrones at its absolute best! Loving your reactions guys, I'm gonna be bereft when we get to the end 😂😩
Ohhh.. another fun fact.. the shield that Jon picked up inside Winterfell had the Bear Island sigil.. proving that Lady Mormont’s 62 men made a difference..
I don’t think Ramsay is a coward, at least not in battle. Jon’s approach to command, fighting alongside his troops, is brave, but tactically stupid. If Jon gets cut down by some rando, his whole army falls apart instantly. Ramsay commands from the back, allowing him to adjust his tactics. Jon doesn’t have that option. Even when the Vale shows up, Ramsay isn’t a coward for retreating to Winterfell. It’s a fortified position, with fresh troops, fresh supplies, and walls with archers. I’m not a Ramsay fan, but Jon’s plot armor is a better explanation for the victory than any tactics or bravery.
She's seen it before, the way she knew the knights of the vale were coming before it had even happened was very sus. Hate comments that accurately predict what happens yet no one predicted it that i've seen watch it for the first time
Did you even watch the episode? Sansa flat out said she was going to get help. May I ask what you thought Little finger meant after the boy lord of the vale said, "We must go help Sansa" and then the camera zoomed in on Little fingers face and he said "It is time we enter the fray"???? what did you think he was talking about??? They even showed Sansa sending a raven to little finger asking for help. You must be the only person to watch the episode and not realize little finger was gonna show up lol The reason pudgy knew that was gonna happen is because she is smart and she actually listens to what the characters are saying.
sad how neglected Viserion and Rhaegal are. The show basically made them smaller and less charismatic Drogons lol. They didn't give them their dynamic personalities from the books and even their complexion was stripped after like season 4.
@@nostalgicbliss5547 I agree, but then a ton of actual human characters got the same treatment. 😅 Besides, in the books, Drogon IS implied to be the bigger, more aggressive "alpha" of the pack, and he did in fact grow bigger while ranging free and eating what he wanted, while both Viserion and Rhaegal were confined to a prison for quite some time. And he is in fact Danys mount.
The most satisfying moment in GOT history (to me), was the revenge on Ramsey, both by Jon's hands and Sansa. I'm no fan of Sansa because I knew in the end, all she ever wanted was to be queen. After she tells everyone that the North should never bend the knee, then she ends up being Queen of the North? Yea, the North apparently bent the knee. Still, her revenge on Ramsey was fitting.
Visually it is indeed one of the best battle scenes ever filmed, but storytelling wise…3/10? It’s just sad that nowadays visuals count more than good storytelling.
It’s easier to create a spectacular battle scene than it is to write a compelling story. It's clear that the writers never really understood what made the books (and GoT S1-4) special.
Yeah the sansa plot this season being pointless conflict with Jon just to end up in the most obvious deus ex machina ever is actually written like shit lol
Yeah, the shift of priority becomes obvious. Style over substance. On a show that was known for the latter. Now it became your typical Hollywood blockbuster. Fancy CGI battles. Entertaining for a moment, unimpactful in a long run.
One of the best episodes of television ever. My only issue is that the writers made Ramsey go out like a chump. Obviously we all wanted to see him get f'd up, but the way they did it didn't really do the character justice. Go back to the ep when Yara tried to free Theon. Ramsey's right there leading the fight like a savage. For everything he was, he wasn't a coward or a chump. In fact, he probably had the same kind of training that Jon did being the bastard of a high born. Not saying he'd be as good as Jon... but it should have been a fight. Instead we got this pathetic dude getting his grill smashed. lol
Not to mention Jon is totally exhausted by now, bones broken, while Ramsay is the freshest person there, but he just lays there because the writers kinda forgot Ramsay strives in these situations, the totally pussified him.
There are many ways to lead some people and some people lead by fear... Besides at that point, with the advantage that Ramsey has, there's no reason for him to get involved with the fight. Most battles the king does not just insert himself Like john does. Typically they use tactics and they don't just run straight in like john did. There's a thin line between bravery and stupidity...
The idea that the giant didn’t have a weapon going to War always bothered the fuck out of me … it’s the beginning of the lazy story writing even though the episode is so good It’s the details that they don’t have in the books they just start making up that unwinds this Christ they had weapons before If he just grappled a damn tree he could of destroyed the shield wall
A heroic leader on the battlefield is a nice trope, but seriously, you don't put your general into the thick of battle. The general is kinda important to keep alive for strategic purposes. XD
i have to be honest i remember starting to watch you guys and mostly skipping the intros because i wasn't a big fan of your guy's banter. But now that i've been watching for a while i've started to really enjoy your dynamic and it's made me laugh out loud so many times so now i never skip anything. Much love!
