There is a need for a short frost mage rotation video out there like xaryu did for arcane. The lack of resources on yt for frost is insane. I've been playing frost since cata, skipped dragonflight and now they are forcing me to use glacial spike, which I always hated. No idea how to dps anymore, my single target rotation suffers so much because i try to use GS whenever I can. Coming from shadowlands where I was top dps every single dungeon this feels really bad since I struggle with doing 1m overall in m10+ Feels like the class got a massive rework.
It probably could use some more on ptr with the spellslinger changes, mostly base buffs to frost though. Ideally we would get some talent changes like most of the other specs in the game because we have the worst spec tree in the game numerically (least number of talent nodes and only spec with 0 choice nodes).
Hey man, big fan of your content. Question though - I see a lot of instances there where you do not shatter GS with Flurry. I watched your guide and somehow understand the principle. Isn't there like a general thing that you shatter GS when out of IV and not shatter it in IV just to generate more splinters?
We do not cast GS into winters chill ever technically as this build. However we do cast GS -> flurry in icy veins if it will not shatter, and GS is higher priority than fingers of frost. Oftentimes this means every GS is either shattered by us casting flurry, or more commonly during IV we send it + an ice lance into a splinterstorm refresh and have them both shatter + generate a splinter.
I've watched all your videos, but unfortunately, I find it hard to follow what's going on. It would be great if you could create a shorter, more straightforward guide on the Frost Mage rotation. Watching a 50-minute video and trying to remember everything is tough. It's disappointing because there aren't many guides that explain it efficiently. I'd really appreciate a more concise explanation.
I like to be thorough, because missing information or context then becomes misinformation. I understand the desire for shorter content but realistically the guide isnt meant for you watch and memorize the whole thing. About half of it is irrelevant to you if all you care about is playing the meta build (spellslinger) and you arent a beginner frost mage. Maybe I'll try just making a short one for the .5 release.
@@Manatheryour long form videos have been a life saver swapping to mage for mythic prog this tier and having you as a resource has been enormous thanks brother looking forward to more commentary and guides
@@Manather+1 for a deep dive video, where u commentary this dungeon and telling us why do u use xy skill and why not xy skill, what should we do watch etc . At AoE im feeling good myself, but at the boss Im a sh1t . Watched your videos and cant understand how u doing so well...
@@Manather I watched your guide too, but i find myself spamming ice lance and cant make a consistent ice orb chains. Maybe i am missing something. I rarely use the glacier spike (only when icy veins is on cd). I’ve tried both frostfire and spellslinger. I find frostfire to be more consistent. that means i do something fundamentally very wrong and cant find the reason. 😢
@@Manather I love your content (and long videos, short ones personally I dont think help) and explanations. Just a suggestion, but I saw Preheat fire mage video, and he pauses the record as he explain the rotation, that really helped understand why he is casting X and not Y. Maybe you could do something similar with frost :)
Everyone says frost mage is easy but I still don’t really get it. Like predicting splinter storm, when to spam ice lance, is it normal to overcap on icicles? Etc.
Most preconceptions people have about specs are wrong. Arcane for instance is commonly talked about as some gigabrain phd spec, but for the past 2 expansions its actually been the easiest mage spec to play at an optimal level. It just has a higher skill floor than frost/fire since it has more rotational abilities, but the gameplay is very scripted. Frost is very easy in AOE, and generally its not that complex in ST, post rework in DF it definitely increased its complexity in st though and this current moment is a very large outlier in its history. Which people dont swap their perception of fast enough.
I know you mentioned some things already but what are your major gripes with spellslinger frost? Finally in years I made a mage alt (Im trying out different dos specs cuz Im a healer main). Yeah I do kinda hate splinterstorm apllying WC but other than that as a mage newbie I seem to love this spec (its fun). High APM (Im new to it so ye a bit overwhelming), so far i played ele sham, demo, destro and boomie (oh and aug but I dont count that). Never enjoyed anything as much as SS frost despite the issues. Will soon try frostfire just so see how I like it and arcane. Ugh hope the do something with SS arcane thematically sunfury doesn't attract me.
SS's orb resets further devalue frozen orb as a cooldown, with winter chill application refreshed per splinter per splinterstorm you have a heavy emphasis on performing the right pre-actions while splinterstorm is in flight to snipe 2-3 winters chill consumptions before it fully refreshes back to 2. And those pre-actions change depending on your distance to the boss and are massively important to performing well on the spec in st.
I recently came back to WoW and Im having a very hard time playing with a Mage, my dps is always around the bottom… should I be playing with a frost spec or arcane? And do you have any guide I could use for the damage rotation? Your game play is amazing!
Am I seeing things or on that pull at 13:45 when the other mage accidentally pulls the pack in the corner, he shoots out splinters after his cd reset ability (Im blanking on the name). Mobs even have the splinter dot on the nameplates
@@poptya imho at this point its on tanks, there is so much bugged shit that pulls the boss that they should be prepare just to run out and reset if that happens.
Loving all the content you're making, keep it up! Would you say Frost is the best M+ spec, or is it still Arcane and you're just playing Frost out of personal preference?
