TLOU2's ending still infuriates me because of how nonsensical it is. I don't disagree that her choice to abandon her family knowing what it will cost her is fitting with the theme of both the futility and all-encompassing nature of revenge, but Ellie strokes her murder-boner for a couple of MONTHS without realising "this is isn't worth it". She would absolutely not have given up on her revenge the way she does, not with what it has cost her. I also firmly believe it should have been a choice (at least on second play through) to either stay on the farm and/or to finish Abby off. Non-canon, sure, but being forced down the "screw my family, I want revenge" route only for it to be pulled away unceremoniously at the last second was just such poor and contrived writing.
Bro clearly doesn’t understand- Ellie COULD NOT live with that trauma without ending Abby. It was only when she recollected memories of the day after she told Joel off that she understands why Joel did what he did, but also took into account her mistake of moving on for his sacrifice and fate he clearly already knew awaited him and his future.
There was some stuff i drastically didn't like about last of us two but i thought the ending was pretty good and brought full circle the stuff it needed to. She left on a path of vengeance but made the right choice at the end. Then she got back home only to remember that life is a b!tch some times. It works because it's devastating and feels unfair because the character grew, but it is not really because she did too late. It also clearly felt like the story wasn't finished. With that in mind i don't think it's redemption happy ending time just yet. My biggest gripe with the game was that they took away a great character who brought depth to the story but didn't have any other characters filling in the void enough. The story just wasn't good enough over all. It had more than a few moments that i loved though.
I wouldn't call these Alternate Endings as much as Cut Endings. But good work actually tracking all of these down. Btw. Regarding Yennefer; if you've read the books, you'll know that Yennefer(and Geralt) is fully justified in doing whatever they want to the Lodge of Sorceresses. They're not exactly good people.
Problem is, that's only apparent to readers of the books. You have to take into account that many players haven't read them, so the decision wouldn't make sense to them. You either have to reestablish the evil nature of the Lodge, or just not go there.
Agreed, but it would have taken them a lot of work to actually SHOW that in the game for the many players who never read the books or only picked them up after getting to know the witcher universe through the games. I know the books existed before the games, but Sapkowski wasn't exactly well known on the western fantasy market before the success of the games.
Yeah, and yet I still pick Yen over Triss because at least Yen doesn't manipulate an amnesiac Geralt into falling in love with her when he's with someone else (aka Yennifer). To me that's actually slightly less toxic.
@@PhaethonCrafts To be fair, Geralt IS a womanizer who has no qualms whatsoever to sleep around, the relationship with Yen is very much an on/off relationship and IIRC in the books he already had a fling with Triss before the first game amnesia story happened, so Triss wasn't lying when she told him they were close (not to invalidate your point, not mentioning Yen is still quite a big omission). Given his own casual attitude about romance and sex, Geralt probably wouldn't regard Triss' behavior as toxic. Also, both of them are no angels, pretty much all wizards and witches in the story are manipulative schemers, it comes with the profession (they lose a major part of their humanity to gain their powers).
Glad to see xLetalis get a shout-out for his never-ending, excellent work of dissecting and displaying everything there is to know about Witcher 3. _Everything_ there is to know.
About the last of us 2, I don't like how Ellie is this revengeful beast killing everyone in her way to get to Abbey (while taking a mental toll) and just stops at abbey herself. At least Kratos finished the job and realized the horrors he brought upon the world/universe making the choice to release hope onto the world through un-living himself. To me, this story feels like Ellie went on a rampage and decided to stop before the end. Not really satisfying is it!😞
How could you not even mention Legacy of Kain when talking about Soul Reaver? The original was all about redeeming your soul and gave you the option to redeem the world or rule and let it burn. The god ending felt like the right one, the bad being the alternate. But if the developer hasn't gone with the bad ending there would have never been a Soul Reaver!
Max never got to the original time line, not just because of the novel saying the tornado was the canon ending, but because after chloe got shoot, max came out meening that she would probably get shoot also, so when she hide she didnt folow the time line correctly, for a better explanation of this just play the normal route of stein gates
Not sure why but I thought the title referred to endings in released games that changed everything, kind of like if the dog ending of silent hill 2 became canon or something like that, not endings that were removed from standard gameplay.
I thought the same, glad I'm not alone. When I hear "alternate ending" in connection with video games (many of which do have several possible endings), I think of alternate like in "an alternative ending that I can choose/achieve" not like in "alternative idea for an ending that was scrapped during development process and therefore doesn't officially exist".
What about the Alternate ending to Fallout 4 where Danse accepts he is a synth, Maxson is against this and orders you to kill him, but Haylen revealed a way to save Danse, by killing Mason. don't know why this was cut cause it would have made everything better from the BOS. Luckily, there's a mod to unlock this ending.
@@TheInuyashee I meant to say kill, but that could be a opation too and a fair trade, no wonder he is always mad, probably been years since he got laid
"...the developers wanted to leave Ellie's fate to the players imagination..." This is exactly why movies suck so bad, and why video game narratives have gotten so bad. The Hollywood style of narrative building is taking over video games. I didnt come up with the story, dont make me come up with the ending. Have some balls, and make an DEFINATIVE ending. God i hate it soooo much when writers do that.
Yep. There is a time and a place for some narrative ambiguity. I was just watching a video on Lambert's death in Alien, for example. The details of it are purposely left to your imagination with just the clues of the sounds and some half-glimpsed visuals when Ripley finds the remains later on. That's a good time to let viewers use their imagination. But it's a weak cop-out to refuse to write a necessary narrative framework because you don't know yourself and then tell your readers to do all your work for you, calling it "leaving it up to the readers'/viewers' imaginations".
I'm glad they didn't end Soul Reaver that way. Besides not really working plot wise (Kain wasn't physically a vampire anymore), the bigger plot was amazing & we never would've had that pleasure. I hear they're remastering it. Hopefully they can fix the sequel, which was an incredibly buggy, unplayable mess.
I think they did so well with Yennefer in Witcher 3. As a player, I felt like "ohhhh so THIS is why Geralt can't get over her" numerous times during the game. I felt like since so much clearly happened between them offscreen/out of game, it intensified their chemistry when we actually get to see them together.
Joker getting a harem could’ve worked if we didn’t get cucked with two giant time skips! Could’ve explained and come clean and who knows what the reaction could have been! The ending to P5R sucks no matter which ending Edit: I’m happy I’m not alone in my opinion. I mean if Kirito from SAO and all the other harem protags can why can’t we? Makes no sense
Why am I not surprised that TLOU2 had both an ending that actually let us finally deal Abby the way that we wanted to, and another that would be somewhat non-depressing. Was it really so much to ask to give us a CHOICE on what we wanted to do with Abby? Also, highly disagree about TLIS too. I really disliked that I spent literally the entire game saving Chloe only to be told at the very last moment that "oh, by the way, you can't actually do that and have any other choice in the game matter at all".
Gotta disagree with Yennefer being weak character. Also, if you read the books, or look into deeper into the relationship between Yen, Triss, and Geralt, then you'd know Yen is the true love for Geralt, and triss was just more of a girl next door type.
I'm Metal Gear V, Eli couldn't have been killed. As far as closure is concerned, that already happened in the future time-line. Eli was Liquid Snake. Or it was very heavily implied. Well enough to connect the dots. Liquid Snake, Psyco Mantis, and Revolver Oscolot were key players/antagonists in the Shadow Moses event. It wasn't about closure. It was about bridging the gap. The closure did come in Guns of the Patriots. This alternate ending would have only worked if a cure was found, or previously concealed, and given to him. Unless they're working on a sequel, or have one I'm not aware of, this ending is pointless.
@@tubensalat1453I thought it was a way for WhatCulture to mockingly throw more shade at typical male horndog fantasies. Every time they talk about something that contains… well… let’s just call it fan-service, they usually strongly express their disapproval of it in some way these days. Ya know, because it’s 2024 and society is “supposed to be better than gawking at women”.
@@TheBrodRoadisn't it funny that they never whine about the female gaze and the roided up beefcakes (that are also mostly white) that the females - and the one guy that wears female clothes - keep slobbering over and praising the inclusion of in every game? So much for the 'equality' that the 'progressive' moorons keep claiming they are pushing for.
Just speaking as a gamer here but I play games to escape reality, I don't need a game giving me a crap ending and having the reason of "oh it's more realistic that way" the last of us 2 sucked big time but it wouldn't have been so bad if we had gotten the ending of ellie getting her revenge and going home to her family, again I play to escape reality not be knocked back down to earth at the end, they should really look at what they are putting out I mean exactly how realistic are fungus zombies in the world? They ruined that whole series for me and it will take a miracle for them to make me buy a copy of part 3
Forgiving al other shortcomings of LoU2, the current ending really sucks. They should have stick with the original idea ending and give Ellie and us a true satisfing conclusion avenging Joel!
basically the end of life is strange contradicts the whole basic concept because it cancels all previous decisions and all the people you wanted to help or not depending on your decision will die in any case it's a lame excuse
The Joker gets a harem ending in Persona 5 is non-canon. Because Persona 5 Strikers is basically continuing on from the best ending. And if I remember correctly, Joker’s canonical love interest is Futaba.
I know the horse is a skeleton at this point, but TLOU2's ending should have been part of a 3rd game. Imagine it. The 2nd game has you play both Ellie and Abby. Abby turns out she was out to kill Joel, as an ending. The 3rd game would have you have the showdown, only for Ellie to realise it wouldn't be worth killing Abby. It would have so much more of an impact.
nobody cares about the characters or their actions in The Last of Us 2 the character traits of all the established characters have been completely thrown out the window and even characters who are just being introduced can completely change their personality if the plot deems it necessary in this situation where the author no longer has to concentrate on concepts like continuity, character traits or logic you can develop your plot completely freely and in the end you have two main characters who are both terrible people because that's how it's written and you really wish you had the chance to decide which of the two should survive but if that were possible many fans would probably demand that there is a possibility in which both of them die
Nah man, Halo ended with Halo Reach. The best games in the series are ODST and Reach. If i dont award nostalgia points. Its the truth. If you didnt know it yet now you do. Fight me! (you'll probably win, but im still right about halo)
am I the only one that thinks the title is misleading? it's not alternate ending, as in endings you can get through different plays or different choices but developer's dropped or cut endings?
Who that was a really misleading thumbnail, since technically that never even happened in the Witcher 3, and unless you went through the game files looking for cut content you would never even have known that was at one point considered for the game.
For being the guy of positivity, it is pretty weird to have him shame polygamy. If they were all into it, what is wrong with it. I guess the WhatCulture channels hate sex positivity.
9:24 , Poly iS real, swingers are real we are people we should get to have our stories told in Championship too not just monogomy but Ethical Poly . No lies, everyone consents . you don't have to be poly but stop shaming other that have more that one honest relationship. Especially with the US housing crisses sometimes it the only way to live is when more than two people care about each other. are not Cheats or liersl
"Close friends" just like all those men and women who lived together in the past that inexplicably never had any lasting relationships other than their "best friend".
Really badly editted. Please don't cut the pauses between sentences. It makes it hard to watch and really comes off as amateurish. Disliked for awful editing and not the content itself
Editing has been horrible for months now. I pretty only stick around for Jules at this point, but I mainly pay attention to other channels with game lists like this.
Jules, good Jules, please, just one video, one, Flash games, just do it. You know you want to. And including the supporters @modponsan1618 @tristanbriggs3185 @garyoak9649
