I think Enterprise is severely underrated. It has fans, that's true, but I don't think it gets enough recognition in fan circles. Enterprise bought so much to the table, and told a fabulous story of the first Enterprise crew.

I really liked Enterprise and now knowing what unused ideas were thrown around and what also was planned for a 5th season, it would have been an interesting season had it have been made, which I wish it had have been. I don't mind the theme music used for Enterprise, but I remember wondering what that song sang by Rod Stewart and used in the movie Patch Adams was doing being used as a Star Trek theme? The theme music should have been original for the show, like every other Star Trek theme before it. Had they have used Archers Theme as the theme music instead, that would have worked as it fits very well and is perfect for a Star Trek title sequence theme and with the guitar and drums it was a bit different than other Star Trek themes used. Yes the full DS9 theme had a guitar and drums in it, but that version was never used in the show. While I did like the temporal cold war, I do agree that it's a show about the early days and we wanted to see what life was like for humanity before the vessels, technology. Starfleet, Prime directive, red alerts etc...Star Trek was known for and trying to make Enterprise futuristic, took away some of that feel. I didn't like the finale and if it wasn't for the cancellation, things might have went much better as we would have got to see the birth of the Federation in more detail than the rushed ending we got.

I have vehemently disagreed with the idea of "franchise fatigue" over the years as it sounds like a deflecting excuse for poor production effort (which, let's face it, Berman and Braga and any suits above them are to blame for when it came to Voyager and Enterprise). But I suppose fatigue CAN be a thing if that lack of effort gets prolonged or doesn't take diversifying risks like modern Trek does. Also, making the proposed 5th season refit of the ship canon does go against what we saw in "These Are the Voyages..." ...But since that episode SUUUUUUCKED, I'll go along with it. After all, I tend to write off "Turnabout Intruder" and "And the Children Shall Lead" as events that, if Kirk & Company were real people in another reality watching our tv shows, would point at and say "yeah those events didn't happen at all like that".

There was a writer (I can't remember his name right now) who wrote a Star Trek: Enterprise novel that explained that Trip did not die but was recruited to work for Section 31. Thing is though, if (and when) they decide to revisit Enterprise, there's nothing to stop them ignoring These Are the Voyages. Because it's portrayed as a "historical record", some 200 years in the future, whos to say that recording is wrong, or been changed in some way. Even without the endless potential with time travel, they can still have Trip take command of the upgraded NX-01 for a revival series. As for the theme tune... I love the song for the first two seasons, but they went in the opposite direction they should have for season 3 onwards. They should have made it progressively more instrumental and grander, leading into the original Courage theme (re, Discovery)
@jcohasset23
@jcohasset23 11 месяцев назад
Also Voyager ignored several of its episodes that involved some version of time travel or taking part in the future (there is even a scene in one episode where Janeway and Kim discuss how it can even be possible to use future information from a timeline that no longer exists), and Star Trek as a whole has ignored much of the time travel Temporal organization that Voyager started and is believed to be what is in Enterprise. But the concern of the timeline becoming increasingly muddy with each newer series changing things may be why they haven't tried it, though the success of Picard season 3 might have them try again some day.

I'm still of the opinion that the Finale wasn't planned on being the finale, but contracts got in the way for part of it with money there. Basically, the episode was planned for being part of the season when they were then told that the show was canceled, leading to a reshuffling and going for an ending they could fit in with some shifting of things. Plus the holodrama setup means that they could hint at things and change them for future real events however they wanted to (Same as the Kes time travel episode in Voyager where they reused chunks of that, but large portions never happened). So it became the finale and changed at the same time as everything else went crazy there

It still hurts that this fantastic series was cut off in it’s prime. It had found it’s feet so the following seasons would have been truly awesome. Loved the refit ship that we were denied. BTW. The theme as fantastic. Don’t know why so many fans objected. Pete.

The fact that the NX-01 DID in fact receive the refit puts the veracity of the entire series finale into question, as the NX-01 in that episode clearly has not been redesigned and was according to the dialog in the episode on its way to being decommissioned. Since we now know that the NX-01 refit DID happen, it means that the accuracy of the holodeck program that the finale took place in was dubious at best.

Ship registry is not visible, so what makes you so sure that ship in museum is Enterprise NX 01?

Great video, gang. When talking about the Borg Queen origins, though, you want to have a look at the 'Bootstrap Paradox'. A fascinating paradox that always tickles my fancy. Lovin' your work!

Archers Theme should have been the theme. Enterprise got cancelled because they started by doing what THEY wanted. It got better when they started bringing familiar elements from franchise. As soon as the song first started, i knew the show was in trouble. And yet Enterprise was way more trek than the new stuff.

It would be wonderful if they decided to somehow pick the series up again... maybe do an enterprise mini series which is set 20 years after the events of the series, maybe begin with a memorial of Trips "death" only to reveal at the end of the episode how he's been a secret agent all these years, and use de-aging in select episodes and scenes, to tell the story about what happened in the 20 years... or maybe make the whole mini-series a single serialized story about the crew time travelling to the past to save Trip from his untimely end and change the future for the better, which would certainly be a twist on the whole cold time-war thing

I didn't mind Enterprise not having Star Trek in the title initially. I feel it was symbolic that this was set before all the Star Trek that we had known up to that point. As for the theme song, I'm actually one of the people that enjoyed it, but I much prefer the original version of it, not the updated more upbeat one they used in the later seasons. For those that hated the song, look up the Enterprise intro with the song swapped out for Archer's Theme, which was used as the end credits song. It fits well as the 'traditional' type of Star Trek intro. Oh and it's called 'Faith of the Heart', not 'Where my Heart will Take Me'.

The theme tune - in the bluray extras (filmed much later than the quote from 2002), Braga said on camera that he hated and regretted choosing that song. He also said it was a ready made song just "pulled off the shelf" when they were running out of time to choose a theme tune - just coincidence that the lyrics might fit the theme of the show.

We never knew who was the antagonist from the Temporal Cold War but i'm hoping that we eventually do. I still think it's gonna be some future Romulan.

I couldn't get into Enterprise because I never knew when it would be on. The Fox station that carried it wanted to be a sports channel and would schedule Enterprise at the last minute and at different times every week.

Honestly, I think the theme tune would have better 'told the story' by starting with some non-lyric vocals (think throat singing and so on), adding in primitive instruments, and then increasingly modern instruments taking on the theme and adding harmonic complexity.

Intro song is an acquired taste. Personally, I prefer the intro music from 'In a Mirror, Darkly' two-parter. On a side note, Linda Park has very nice legs. 🙂

Re: Romulan vs Xindi arc I think with some modifications, they could've made a much more compelling 3rd (or even 4th season), detailing major events of the Earth-Romulan War: 1. Earth is attacked by an unknown enemy. Enterprise is contacted by Admiral Forrest, and ordered to return to Earth immediately. 2. After several months of traveling at high warp, Enterprise returns to Earth. Crew morale is at an all-time low, and not even movie night lifts their spirits. 3. Starfleet and the Enterprise crew investigate the wreckage of the weapon used. 4. We come to find out the weapon was unmanned, but had a unique weapon signature. One which Enterprise had previously encountered in a Romulan Minefield. 5. Starfleet begins a massive build-up over the course of 2 years. The already in-progress NX-02 Columbia is launched, and 2 more NX-Classes (the NX-03 Discovery, and the NX-04 Atlantis) is rushed into production. 6. Each of these NX-Classes, as well as the original NX-01 undergoes a refit that includes a new secondary hull, faster engines, and an experimental shield system. 7. Pressed into action, the NX-03 and NX-04 are sent into space, to locate the Romulans, and if possible, attempt to make contact to resolve the situation peacefully. 8. NX-01 and NX-02 meanwhile are assigned patrol and defensive duties in the event of future Romulan attacks. 9. Meanwhile, the rest of Earth's defense fleet is upgraded with tech from their new allies the Andorians, and Tellerites, with some minor upgrades from the Vulcans. 10. Archer remains on Earth during this time as Starfleet Chief of Staff to Admiral Forrest, overseeing the fleet refit. T'Pol officially joins Starfleet and is given command of Enterprise. 11. NX-04 is destroyed at the 1st Battle of Cheron, with the NX-03 severely damaged. A distress call is sent, and the rest of the Discovery crew is rescued by a Tellerite freighter. 12. Archer is promoted to Admiral, and takes command of the brand new NX-05 Endeavour, and placed in charge of Earth’s NX-fleet. This signals the start of what will later be known as the "Earth-Romulan War".

If Legacy happens, some of these unfinished ideas should certainly be explored. Such as the origin of the Borg Queen, details of the Temporal Cold War, and the design philosophies in the development of Starships. Also, Star Trek Shorts should come back to bolster these aspects.

You missed a big one: The show was _really_ supposed to lean into the backstory of the first Starfleet warp ship and her crew, showing it's design and construction, and crew origins and assembly, over the course of the first season. But an Earth-bound "star trek" was flatly rejected by the studio.

I'm not sure about anyone else, but I personally would've loved to see a 5th season of Enterprise and seeing the NX-01 getting refitted to have a secondary hull

The problem with naming the show after the main vessel of all the previous shows (excluding DS9 and Voyager obv) is that if you have never watching star trek before or only ever heard about it in passing... Enterprise could just mean business or entrepreneur or to some sort of sailing show... while to anyone who has any love for the show would absolutely understand the name, reading it on your TV channel selector would hint at what it was... and I imagine that could have thrown a few people... especially those in their late 40's-50's who only ever heard of Star Trek as something that happened in the 70's and the fans were weird.
