I’ve been a campaign with this premise for nearly 20 session; it’s a lot of fun, though it comes down to the DM and the players to bring the story to life!
I’m running a true hangover style game for my players right now - it starts this week and I’m super excited. Basically, it starts the same way as the movie - they wake up with new gear/gear missing, in a place they don’t recognize, with new enemies/friends depending on each player. I hope it’ll get some laughs.
“The Revolution” is almost exactly t what I have been setting up in my homebrew campaign. But you have clearly thought it out more than I did lol! I will be adjusting my plans to capitalize on the more detailed threads that you laid out for it.
Regarding your Time Strands campaign, I had a similar "anything goes" model in my "Horizon, the Long Road Home" video. One thing I suggested to help ease DM prep was to use published official or third-party adventures since they could be easily tied into the overall campaign regardless of whether or not they would fit together normally.
Caused by wishes from a player, I am changing one part of my campaign to a semi mega dungeon. Underdark mazes to the wazoo. Looking forward to the mega dungeon episode ... ... do I spy a cryptex there on the table? made a 3d printed one with two twist puzzles inside (its downloadable on thingiverse). Thinking about puzzles a lot for this campaign.
Very cool! It is, I just got myself a printer and it's one of the first things I printed. I want to buy a bunch of dice and put them inside, then when my players solve the puzzle they get an in game prize (a clue), and also an irl prize
Awesome video. One of ideas I wish I'll get to mold into my game at some point is a world where "magic went wrong". Kinda post-apo fantasy, where there's a part of the world ravaged by old magic and noone was able to reclaim these lands yet. Players would be the explorers/survivors/inventors to try do it. Could make it into some hex crawl, survival and base management game. The area would contain various weird phenomena and casting magic would sometimes lead to unexpected side effects
I’ve got a plan in mind that mashes a couple of these together. A person is planning to reshape the world via planar convergence (think the planar black hole idea), and the players get to the point where they can stop or help him during the final ritual. Helping him means they get to transition into kind of a Demi-god campaign where they reshape the world at will (at the cost of the vast majority of life on the planet). Stopping him allows them to reverse the ritual and cause a planar divergence. Travel between planes gets more difficult, but not until after physically ripping the world apart (Shattered). I also intend to this to transition from the world I’ve built to a planet that is toroidal (donut-shaped).
I hope to run this campaign one day: The introduction to this campaign is the death of all the characters. They are all good people that, for one reason or another ended up being sentenced to death. Filled with regret, they all wake up in hell. Now they must escape and go back to the realm of the living to right their wrongs and be able to put their own souls to rest. I think this idea would work better if hell isn't the forgotten realms nine hells. Maybe hell is a more esoteric place, less filled with devils and their bureocratic and cutthroat structure and more of a straight up place of torment.
I got this from the book Kings of the Wild, but the greatest adventurers to ever live come out of retirement for one last deadly mission to save one of their children who have gone missing during their quest. Everyone plays a character in their later years who used to be high level now at a low to mid level. This could be great with a group who already completed a campaign to bring back their old PCs and maybe some of those characters get to go out in a blaze of glory to save their friends or because they would rather go out fighting.
My personal favorite is probably the library one as I like more episodic adventures, also because it heavily reminds me of the invisible library bookseries that is one of my favorite books about a no nonsene librarian ldady working for a interdimensional library jumping into various realities to recover books and lost texts.
My current group gave me a HILARIOUS campaign idea! (Its kinda dark though) Some how the party over time finds their way joining a cult, even if they dont realize they have. Perhaps by doing jobs and quests for the cult leader. Eventually, the cult goes all Heavens Gate and the party and other members drink the spiked ale and they all “die” and the campaign shifts to a Spelljammer space-faring adventure! I'm going to use the City of Last Light for a short campaign arc for sure! Imagine a Ring of Eternal Night surrounding a region housing the City of Last Light. The city is enlightened because it houses a monastery whose monks protect an unwritten history of the world itself (including much about the mysteries of the world, left on the cutting floor of historical institutions who consider the ideas too far fetched to be included in their written works). Anyone traveling through the Ring of Eternal Night experience hallucinations making them question reality, lapses in memory affecting both the long and short term, and must survive amalgamations of whatever the beasts within have become. Many simply become disoriented and succumb to the elements if they somehow manage to avoid hostile beasts and plants. The monks are heavily focused on their oral traditions, not the martial/magical prowess the ring demands. Basically a grove of druids focusing on the circle of spores are creating the environment around the city to keep anyone looking for information concerning the mysteries of the world out; and they are being led by an an Unseelie lord/mistress who wishes to bring forth a winter upon enlightenment; thereby securing the worlds wonders/mysteries in shadow, keeping the cancer that is mortals from putting their power hungry hands on these secrets.
Currently doing eve of ruin, and it's not looking good since were being chased by a dreadnaught.... my character hates plane jumping but in order to get to where we need to for our plan to steal vecna's godhood from him before he grows to strong.
So, this kind of ended up like the majority of other campaign "idea" videos out there. A hook with no structure or answers. - here is the thing that is happening, your players go figure out why... Okay... But I still have to write the campaign, that didn't give me any actual content to use. A hook is easy, I want to know what the pieces are that I need to reveal to the players; that would be actually helpful.
