Always a pleasure to see a 5th Gen console get talked about (it's a fascinating time in video game history). Though I do own a Saturn, I have watched a fair few videos about them, so I was surprised to see games that I had never heard of before such as Crimewave and Wing Arms. If I'm ever lucky enough to own a Saturn, I'll have to consider Crimewave as a potential purchase alongside Burning Rangers, Digital Pinball, Panzer Dragoon II and Shinobi X. They all looked a lot of fun and you did a great job presenting them.

I wish now that I bought a Saturn back when it was launched. Pretty much bought a PlayStation for Gran Turismo, also I could only afford to own one or the other, not both. Being a stupid teenager then, I was talked out of buying a SEGA. These days, I'd love to own one - the library is great and the controller is one of the best ever made for home consoles. Really like your work mate

I chose the Saturn for 2 reasons: I was a Sega fan already and Panzer Dragoon looked amazing. I did enjoy playing Gran Turismo on my flatmate's PS1 later on though, long after I had sold my Saturn (which I greatly regretted).

I love games like gun griffon because they’re based in the future which is the past for us. I didn’t realize we used mechs 9 years ago and that Europe wanted to fight over resources to keep their warmachines going. Must have missed that while I kept my eyes open for doc brown and Marty McFly showing up in the delorean at the time.

Never regretted buying a Saturn. Personally , though it was expensive. I loved it.

New patreon supporter here, love your channel! I was originally drawn to your arcade content (cut my teeth in golden age arcades of the early 80s) -- but with this video you've highlighted several of Saturn's unique western releases -- some really special games. For me, Saturn-exclusives Nights into Dreams & Dragon Force should be in any top 10 -- I've played nothing like either of them in all my years of gaming. As a longtime Saturn collector (it's my favorite console to this day), I'm surprised you didn't include any JP-exclusive arcade style games in your list. The true heart of the Saturn's library is its expansive array of shmups & 2D fighters (over 50 games in each genre), as well as other action games -- most of which never reached us in the west -- and only a few had Playstation ports. All of those JP games are now easily playable via emulation/ODEs, or via the original physical media on our western Saturns -- using a simple region workaround like an Action Replay cart. Their great arcade-style games are what elevate Saturn/Dreamcast *slightly* above PS1/early PS2 for me personally (that's just my personal taste) -- though PS1 is another favorite console of mine, with its strengths in 3D platformers, JRPGs, gorgeous career-mode driving games, and the new (back then) kind of long-form action-adventure games like Metal Gear Solid, Tenchu, Silent Hill, Tomb Raider 1-3 that would become so dominant in the videogame world. Saturn was a poorly-marketed dinosaur, with all of those great arcade games looking backwards in time -- while PS1 was looking forward to the kind of long-form gaming future that gamers were only just then learning that they wanted.

Thanks for the support! I have shouted you out at the end this video as well as last week's. Nights isn't a Saturn exclusive, otherwise it would be in there I'm not really familiar with Dragon Force as I don't play RPGs. As for Japanese games, my original thinking was that I would end up including quite a few, but as I researched it I found that a lot of them either weren't exclusives (released in the arcade first or on other Japanese only platforms) or weren't as good as the games I had already listed here. Touge King The Spirits was in there immediately, but I didn't actually realise that was released under a different title in North America until I started writing it up. I might just do another video on the Saturn (any excuse as I love it) called 10 Amazing Japan Only Games or something like that.

Sega was onto a good idea when they started porting PC DOS games to Saturn. I think if they would've dug harder with that they would've done much better in the States. It would've bridged a huge gap between console and PC games, and Sega would've had an endless catalog to cherry pick.

For me in 1995 the Saturn was incredible. And there were games that were technically even more impressive than the PSX like Virtua Fighter 2 and Panzer of Dragoon. But in 97 onwards it started to lose strength because the PSX had all the third-party games like Namco, Square, Konami, Capcom and so on. But we still had games like Sega Rally that were very impressive.

I wonder how much of an impact to Saturn (and Dream Cast) sales the ease of modding PSX in the west had. Every one I knew, into gaming, got a PSX because it could be modded.

Panzer Dragoon Saga and Dragon Force should be on that list. Also, while Daytona CCE is graphicaly impressive and better than the original, the gameplay is worse. I would add Elevator Action Returns and Sengoku Blade from the japanese market.
