Don Bluth is one of the most underrated animators of all time, his movies are far memorable then most. He never talked down to kids, and believed that they could handle anything he respected them more then most big studios.
The funny thing is, none of these have actually been forgotten. They're all cult classics at this point, whether it was because they were great but didn't get the credit they deserved at the time, or because they're honestly bad and everyone loves them BECAUSE they're bad.
I remember the Black Cauldron, Watership Down, aka the demented film, cats don't dance, the secret of Nimh, ferngully the last rainforest, the thief and the cobbler, who else remembers?
Me! I'm trying to remember this movie I watched when I was younger! It was about these forest creatures who lived in the woods and there was a cricket who loved sweets, especially jelly beans. I can't seem to find it or remember the name! It was messed up and some of the creatures died. I've moved a lot since a kid so I don't know if I'll even the cd. Anybody possibly know any ideas to the movie I'm referring? I remember a scene where one of them got caught in the leg by thorns.
If you read the books, you'll... probably love it less. The Black Cauldron was such a bad take on the books that it was based on. I know I hated the movie when I saw it because it was so different from the books, which I dearly love.
If they do, they'd better call it the "Chronicles of Prydain Book 1: The Book of Three" and actually follow the book's storyline instead of the atrocious massacre the original film was to a really good plotline.
Anything Disney or Bluth is not forgotten. It just may not be seen that often. And if you've seen Watership Down you would not forget it. More obscure cartoons tend to be ones like Fantastic Planet and Plague Dogs which are made for a more adult audience. As far as kids movies go, I would suggest films like Rover Dangerfield and The Princess and the Goblin.
Loved Nimh, even as an adult. The Brothers Hildebrandt did some of the designs & backgrounds. The voice characterizations in it were also excellent as well. It should have gotten more attention...
"Gay Purree" was produced by UPA, the studio that did Mr. Magoo cartoons. With songs by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg (of "Wizard of Oz" fame) and starring Judy Garland.
Omg I used to beg my dad to take me to rent “Little Nemo” as well as “The Secret of the Nimh” from blockbusters every weekend when I was little. ❤️ you Dad!
NIHM!!! thank you so much I knew what I wanted to watch but all I had was a fuzzy childhood memory of a movie half watched, as soon as I saw the mouse in the red cape I knew that was it! childhood nostalgia
I love the films Little Nemo and Secret of Nimh. You know wat’s a really great film people forget about? An American Tail. An American Tail is a really amazing film I love, yet I barely hear people talk about it.
Personally, i have memories of some animated films that today is imposible for me to ubicate their names: -The first one, is about two bees, a female and a male, being in love ( at some point the male bee disguising as a batman-like character), the only detail i remember is a place called "valle tranquilo"(the film was in latin american spanish). -the other is about a proffesor and his friends investigating a misterious giant mushroom that turned into butterflies anyone who touched it. -other film is about a group of kids that end stranded in a subterranean kingdom surrounded by goblin-like creatures who enjoyed to play kid games, from this film i only remember the name of one of the girls:pamela. -the last is not a film but an animated series of educative nature: it was about a professor and a bunch of kids(one of the girls with the power of shrink at will) who also were pals with a native american and a dragon-like creature going into adventures, and the villain was a vampire-like dude. Someone knows the names of the films?
Suggestions: 1) The Mouse and His Child 2) Secret of the NIMH 2 3) Plague Dogs 4) Flight of the Dragons 5) A Troll in Central Park 6) The Forgotten Toys 7) The Velveteen Rabbit (classic) 8) Rescuers Down Under 9) The Nutcracker Prince (1990) 10) Help! I'm a Fish
I grew up with "Cats don't dance" and there were only a few of those movies I didn't see, but people have talked about them before in videos I've watched
Literally any film dubbed by Feature Films for Family can be on here. The Seventh Brother, Tiny Heros, Scamper the Penguin, Willy the Sparrow. In it's defense though, they are only dubs and not the originals, which come from Hungary, Russia, and other countires... so I guess it makes a little more sense.
I watched little nemo when i was little and i forgot that whole thing,............. and the only thing I remembered from it was that in the end the kid wakes up and there is that staff under his bed..... man I so gonna watch it again.
UK kids remember Watership Down easier because they had the TV series too while the kids in the US didn't. But my favorite movies when I was 10 in West Virginia were Watership Down, Jack and the Beanstalk - the Japanese 1975 version that was really scary and you can find it here on RU-vid, and The Last Unicorn.
well some of these are forgotten because they were simply bad, and those that were good havent actually been forgotten. like watership down or nimh. tho black cauldron was the lowest point of disney and little nemo was just a total absurd mess because of the issues while it was created, Hayao Miyazaki called it the lowest point of his professional career.
MrAnimepredator I kinda agree about some of these being forgotten because they were bad but Bay Bay's kids is really under remembered and I think underrated but it is hysterical you have to say it
Little Nemo...Finding Nemo...I guess all that magic turned him into a fish As for Watership Down I love that movie I'll never forget Along with Secret of Nimh
Please, people, help me.There's a very old animation I've been trying to find for years. I've watched it a couple of times when I was a kid, but I never found it again. It's about a boy, whose grampa always carries an umbrella. The kid loves him as he is very understanding and kind. In a stormy night, grampa tells him some stories for him to fall asleep. One of them is about a giant who chases two kids in a cave. Does anyone have any idea of this cartoon that I watched in a VCR?
I have a dark sense of humor and outlook on life, even as a kid, because my mom would force me to watch all of these cartoons. They are ,y favorite, so funny how these are regarded as forgotten when these were the cartoons I remember the most.
I remember two animated films/movies from unknown studios i sadly don't know names of these films but i know their plots. By the way if anyone know these two movies please tell me if you seen them or if you know their names So the first film is about a boy finding out about secret dragon sociaty that was advanced in magic and technology and in combining those two and i think they had some time travel/interdimensional device and the main villian and his sidekick tried to take control of that device but in the end he could not truly control the device, in the end they spared the villian and thrught the device he was banished on ridiculasly small deserted island and he become a rular of the said island and the day was saved. The second film that i remember was about young dragon and young noble lady propeably 7-10 maybe 14 years old from what i could remember becoming great friends but in their friendship are two opsticules, first people frearing dragons becose the only dragons that people of the land are encountering are generaly evil and the second apsticul is the the grandfather or uncle of the young lady im not sure if he was her grandfather or uncle but im serten he way not her father well lets just say he was her grandfather. So he was a great knight and he really hates dragons so the young lady really tries to hide her friendship from her but in the end the grandfather find out and tries to slay the dragon so he could protect his granddauther even thoght his granddauther not in any danger but in the end he accepts her being a friends with a dragon.
My mom has some of these on VHS I should watch them again but I clicked on this to see if it had the name of an old cartoon movie I once saw about theses suger gladers in New York. I can't remember the name.
The thief and the cobbler is much more interesting when you see the original storyboard and animation before Richard Williams passed and the studio didn't understand what they had.
Does anyone remember an old movie, it's probably not well known and I dont have much memories of it, but there were these 3 people- 1 girl and 2 guys- theres this bulky guy who always knits and the girl carries a little purse(I think) and theres someone else but I cant remember who.... If my memory is correct, near the end of the movie, the guy who always knits strikes for this huge monster and stabs him in the eyes with a kniting needle (I'm not very good at remembering or describing what I remember)
Most of these are forgotten for good reason, but WaterShip Down isn't.If you grew up in the seventies and eighties you'd have seen it fairly often. Hulu had it in its lineup as recently as last year. Most kids are scared by the reality presented until they're old enough to read the book.
Trust me, I know a few movies in which hardly ANYBODY knows. And you'd have to really dig in through Google to find it. There's one that I know in my head that I've seen, but I cannot even remember the name of it. And I know my relative found it one time, but he forgot it. It had to do with a guy and a girl, and they're basically aviators.
Most of these are considered cult classics, if not straight-up classics. At least 2 films that should've been on this list are "The Extraordinary Adventures of a Mouse and His Child" and "Rock & Rule".
That *The Thief And The Cobbler* ....listed here as Miramax's ridiculous, badly re-cut, pseudo-Disney attempt *Arabian Knight* ...is on this list is indeed a tragedy.
Where is the movie from the thumbnail? Because that's the movie i've been looking for for years!!! It's not in the list 😢. Does anyone know which one i meant?
There's one animated movie i'm trying to find. The only thing i remember is that it follows the story of some skimpy kid who ends up captured by a group of vikings, and that he befriends the ship's captain's (red haired) daughter.Feel free to clue me in if you know.
I actually remember a movie that was partially live action, part animated, where some kid from our world (maybe with glasses?) got into a fantasy world, it ended with a dragon fighting scene where he takes some old armor and weapons from a skeleton. Anyone have a clue?
Well all of these films except Cauldron aren't Disney. And Disney tried to bury all competition. Some were rather poor, or had production issues. And 7 out of 10 we're disturbing. Secret of N.I.M.H. is a masterpiece though, and was made by ex-Disney staff!
