Yeah.. I don't know anyone who didn't like Faith No More... Quite a few who didn't enjoy Mr. Bungle .. But Faith No More was just so accessible. I liked both bands for different reasons though. Angel Dust is iconic. A lot of people shat on King for a Day and I didn't understand why. Trey Spruance's guitar work on that was just awesome.
I grew up with 'grunge' bands in the 90s and AIC is probably my least favourite. Although I appreciate it I actually don't like Layne Stanley's voice much.
Whether people like Layne and AIC, they are the only true grunge band, IMO. They have some amazing songs, and Dirt is the most appropriate album title ever. It is so dirty and grungy. Love them or hate them, but don't hate the music. They are a grunge and alternate rock band that metal fans actually like or at least can appreciate their music. Not liking AIC because of Layne's voice is just strange to me. Man in a box and Would? are 2 of the best songs in any genre of music. If anyone does not know AIC then give them a listen. They are great.
@@martinwhite3559Not for me. Would's good but it has a terrible ending. I do like AIC (I Stay Away great tune) but personally Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden all better with all having better albums than Dirt. I find Soundgarden heavier and Superunknown is my personal favourite of the genre with Purple running it close.
I opened this thinking I'd find at least a few bands that were either too early or too artsy, like Venom or Rush... Maybe something commercial like Breaking Benjamin or Seether. Then you said Alice in Chains and my faith in society died a bit. Well a bit more. Great list. Love the vids man.
I think they are a bit morose and trudging for some people. They were my favourite band for a while there in the 90s and I still really enjoy them even though I discovered so much great music since then.
All these bands have one thing in common - they’ve achieved commercial success, and it seems like people have a problem with that. It’s not the band’s fault that they’re at the top of the league, hence their popularity. Props for Oasis! 🤘
Hey, another great video! I'm with you regarding Korn! I'm lucky to have a friend who is right into them and "re-introduced" me to their catalogue. They have a very identifiable sound. Perhaps it's their devotion to that sound that gets up people's noses. Queen? Great band, but they seem to be literally everywhere these days and I'm just tired of it all, TBH. Thanks for defending AIC - in fact, I play their three "comeback" albums probably more than their Staley-era records. I just love everything about 'em.
Leviathan, Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye is some of the best music ever made. I dipped out after that, but am forever grateful for those three albums.
@@ThatMetalBloke Interesting! In a lot of ways I view Crack the Skye as the magum opus. A triumph of tone, emotion and story-telling, and adventurous with the two incredible long-form tracks, a true metal opera!
Far Beyond Driven is an absolute masterpiece imo. It's my favorite album of all time. Trendkill is great...but the behind the scenes, not recording together, and what they were going through puts it as my 2nd favorite of theirs. Btw, overplayed(metal songs) video is a great idea.
The only album of theirs that I struggled with was Reinventing the Steel. There are some freat songs on there but you can tell that all the issues in the band were starting to get in the way at that point
Thanks for the shout out mate! Wasn't expecting that. Really appreciate it. Tracks I wouldn't mind if I never heard again?? 'Enter Sandman'. Believe it or not I was never a big fan of the 'Black' album. I lived my teens on a steady diet of the first 3 albums and loved the $5.98 ep but I think it was all the extra attention they started to get from 'Black'. I was all protective of bands I loved when I was young. Felt the same when 'Nevermind' and 'Teen Spirit' went massive. Btw...on the last video I agreed with the Exodus thing. Don't know why but didn't do fuck all for me. Plenty of Lol's watching your videos again. So glad you're back!
No worries bud. Completley agree with you on Enter Sandman. I know what you mean about feeling protective over a band that you are into and then gets really popular. It feels like a betrayal in a way
@@ThatMetalBloke That's the one. How dare they appeal to a bigger audience? 😂 However I'll always love 'Nothing Else Matters' as it reminds me of when my Nana died. She was the only one who didn't give me shit for the long hair and ripped jeans. Keep up the good work fella! 🤘🏻
I'm really into stoner rock atm. Love Pantera.. As heavy as I go for the record.. Seen them on the VDOP tour with Megadeath.. Pantera wiped the floor with them.. ❤
It would be interesting to hear which bands you WANT to like but just can't quite get into. For me Gojira is a band I should love and want to love but too many of their songs leave me cold. It's not that they're bad, it's just they're missing something that really makes them appeal to me. Opeth are another band I respect without truly liking.
Sc Youth have araloadof alums an sigles taht are rally bloody hard tolisen to. WOuldt' atall lame smeon if all tehy wanted in their ollection was Dadream ntin and that's it.
Well argued I'm just a _good_ music lover (don't get involved with my play lists that way madness lies) But on most of them you had me going wtf... but then you made a good point so props
yeah, same really, I understand not caring for them generally (maybe at times for some people the layers of vocals can seem excessive, but tis' not as though they always use that)...but hating them just seems weird to me if you like rock music and appreciate musicians who were able to treat it as an art form. They seem like a band you should at least be able to respect on some level.
Hey, I'm a new-ish subscriber to the channel and don't think I've commented before. But I'm going to now. Ultimately we all like what we like and have our own perfectly good and valid reasons for doing so. It's worth keeping in mind too that often people listen to music for completely different reasons than we ourselves do. For some, a catchy song nd a fun beat is perfectly fine and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. For some people "a bunch of killer riffs" is simply not enough to inspire them wehreas I suspect for a lot of metalheads it's pretty much the staple of how we like and respect this genre. ANyway as I've gotten into my forties I basically came to the conclusion that I don't really hate artists anymore. Hatred is personal and I don't have a personal connection with much of the music I dislike. I really haven't got time for any of the so-called nu metal bands (including Korn, sorry, but hey I did appreciate that first album for a while there, too), but I get why people enjoy it, for the most part. I used to think I hated U2 until i actually sat down and listened to a bunch of their albums, and actually now I really enjoy them up to and including Acthung! Oasis, yeah I get it, What's the Story Morning Glory was an album I jammed pretty hard back in highschool days, though the interest didn't last too long. Are you from the UK? I feel like a lot of people in the UK really hated them, not sure if it was because of their attitude or wwhat, but here in north America they seemed to be the only "Britpop" band that people really knew about. One Pulp song got popular and maybe three or four Blur tunes. As for the Gallaghers, well, Rory Gallagher is more my jam these days, but the brothers did make a few tunes I still enjoy, like the song "Morning Glory", which I think rocks pretty good. They really love their Beatles/lennon, don't they?
Hate is a strong word, more like I don't... care? Here's few from me: -Avenged Sevenfold -Ramstein -Spirit Box -Sleep Token -Lorna Shore -Slaughter To Prevail -Architects If people like listening to those bands, good for them. They just don't do anything to me.
I definitely like a few Rammstein and Spiritbox songs. And I really loved the last Avenged Sevenfold album, despite mostly having ignored the band so far.
Thank you for mentioning Queen I love that band mostly from Freddie Mercury vocals and May's guitar work Korn I enjoy their older stuff and few new stuff I was surprised people hate SOAD and AIC my opinion both bands are great.
I absolutely love your comment about using your friends different taste in music to learn about new music rather than dismissing it once again proving your genuine love of music. I mostly listen to Black and Death metal but every genre of music has something to offer apart from drill or stuff like that but thats just not my thing at all 😅 .Having an open mind to these things is the way to go to enrich your own life.
I have really gotten into Death metal over the past few years but still need to check out more Black metal. I enjoy a lot of the bands you would expect such as Mayhem, Burzum etc but need to branch out a little more. Any recommendations would be appreciated 🤘
@@ThatMetalBloke Akercoke are an amazing British band they started out very evil and brutal but as their albums go on their keep the brutality but there are more clean vocals but they keep the brutality and evil sound but there are so many more layers well worth your time and very very underrated. My own heros would be Primordial from here in Ireland absolutely amazing so much heart and passion. Again they started out as Black Metal but as they grew they brought more of a folk influence but every album is amazing big on Irish history. Seeing them live is like a spiritual experience Alan is an amazing front man. Alan has a great RU-vid channel where he does rankings talks about bands he grew up loving in the 80s with some historical stuff and tour stories well worth checking out. Aura Noir would be another great band to get into they are a black trash band blistering stuff not a band album.
Cheers for the recommendations. I heard Acercocke many years ago so I will have to see what they're doing now. I heard one of Primordials albums a few years back and enjoyed it. I should listen to more of their stuff and check out his channel. Never heard of Aura Noir so I will have to check them out as well 🤘
@@ThatMetalBloke Horna , Watain , 1349, Sargeist would be more straightforward black metal. Immortals Damned in Black , Sons of Nothern Darkness and At the Heart of Winter I'll leave you alone at that 😂
I love about every band you cited. I do feel some Queen is overplayed so you just have to go deep tracks to enjoy them more. And we have to acknowledge Tie Your Mother Down as heavy as fuck and almost proto-thrash (and that's why it's no surprise Metallica covered it in their Garage Days covers albums)
Saw pantera at brixton, last time dimebag toured uk with them. Phil comes out at the beginning, says, "my backs fucked, so i wont be doing much," then jumps like a savage. Amazing
@ThatMetalBloke serious live band. I agree with you that Phil has done some stupid shit, here's my hot take. Just before dime was killed, Phil did a piece with metal hammer, was on the cover with two knives, the quote they chose was "fuck dimebag," or something similar. I think that contributed to dimes death.
I totally get why people would dislike the bands mentioned apart from Alice In Chains, they are one of the greatest bands of all time, never thought they’d be mentioned in this video.
It's wild to me that people think of some bands so strongly like the person who said no self respecting metal head would like Korn - there's plenty of bands i just personally dont care for, but i can 100% acknowledge their talent and influence. Some people need to lighten up.
I have been a huge Slayer fan since about 1999. Got to see them back in 2018 and they put on a phenomenal show. They played for almost 2 hours and got a standing, chanting ovation of "Slayer! Slayer! Slayer!" at the end. The last few albums were just ok to me. But Kerry King is a bit of a c u n t lol.
I kinda agree with everything you say (except Oasis really will never like them , not hate them) . One thing I never understood is gate keeping and another thing...I really do not understand why people do not like a band because they may not like some of the members. I am a musician, and music is music and if it is good it is good , no matter you may dislike certain members of the band.
People hate Alice in Chains.. Right that's it let me at em!!!... But in all seriousness though Great video and honestly I like all these bands you have mentioned.. Maybe not so much U2 but I'd be lying If I said I didn't like some of their stuff. Sunday Bloody Sunday and Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me, Kill me will always be great songs to me. To be honest for every band I like, I can see the other side of the argument too, for example, I'm a huge Dream Theater fan, I absolutely love their stuff. However I can understand why some people might find them a little pretentious and why some people may not enjoy James Labries vocals.. But for me they can do no wrong. Great vid.
I get stick from my mates for having Mushroomhead as one of my all time favourite bands and how I personally prefer them over slipknot. I didn't realise how widely disliked they were until a couple of years ago.
I got into Mastodon right before Crack the Skye and while not all their albums since have really blown me away like their early material, they are still one of my favorite metal bands. Not a huge fan of Korn myself, but I just saw them Live with Gojira and both kicked ass!! Haven't really listened to Slayer or Pantera much over the years, but I certainly don't dislike them. Queen's Greatest Hits is enough for me. Oasis first two albums were masterpieces, even if Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova have been overplayed to death. Toxicity is one of the best metal albums of all time! Faith No More are legendary, and no album sounded like the last. King for a Day was their best in my opinion. I think the dislike for Alice in Chains is more to do with the post Layne Staley era, which I don't get because their sound remains largely intact. That is for the most part due to Jerry Cantrell, whose solo albums also sound very Alice Chains-esque.
I know that Jerry's first solo album was intended to be an Alice in Chains album but obviously we all know what happened with Layne. It is a real shame. I can see why people don't take to the later stuff but I think there are some amazing songs
Agree with FNM, Oasis, S.O.A.D. Slayer. I dont disagree that the 1st KORN was a heavy album. The problem is its stuck in ONE tempo, one groove. I bought it early on, but after going through it my initial reaction was no variety song to song, just different intros.Outside of 2-3 songs I thought AIC Dirt was pretty boring as well, only really liked Facelift. Gave up on them after Dirt. Pantera's groove riffs also never moved me. Especially that walk song, very meh!!!! But Im glad for Pantera b.c. it sent me to the underground to find bands like Cynic, Nile, Disincarnate, Acid Bath (they knew how to groove!) MDB, Dissection, Morgion, Soilent Green, ATG etc. Metal was great in the 90's if you knew where to find the good stuff.
Totally agree with your take on Dirt. Face-lift is the better album, if not their best. I can't even listen to the self titled album. The good thing is If I need more Layne, i got Mad Season which i feel is also better than Dirt.
As someone with a rather broad taste in rock and metal music, I honestly agree with you when it comes to most of these bands. Especially Queen, which is one of my favorites. At the risk of being crucified by the entire metal gatekeeping community, I'll even throw in some unpopular ones of my own: I have always loved Limp Bizkit, and I unironically like a bunch of songs from Nickleback. ...I'll see myself out now. 😆
I almost included Limp Bizkit on this list as I think they're great now. Whenever I see live footage they always seem like they are having a great time. I think people hate Nickelback because it's acceptable to do so. They have done decent songs for sure
Firstly thank you for my forgiveness haha. This was a great video. I'm much like you to be honest, there's not enough time in life to spend time hating bands. I just listen to stuff I do like instead and to be fair most on my original list I don't hate and actually like some of their stuff, it's just I don't like them as much as other people seem to... having said all that if you need some more for your next video, I missed a few: Fear Factory: I liked them when they came out but then they just wrote the same song over and over again. Now when I listen back I think I only need Replica and the opening track from that abum and I'm done. Not being a death metal head the first allbum never did it for me and every album after Demanufacture is a not as good version of that. Soulfly: Same problem. I quite liked the first album at the time and got a couple after that but to be honest when I go back to this stuff, Roots and Chaos AD blows it out the water, so what's the point? Skindred: I think by that I had first heard of them I'd already gotten completely bored of nu metal and anything close to it. I just put Skindred down as a Soulfly type of thing and never bothered listening to them which is all on me. However fast forward to Bloodstock (2019 ish) and they were playing. I thought I'd give them a chance as everyone keeps saying they are amazing live. I just found them annoying. If Benji stopped one song to say 'No, no, no, you're not loud enough, let's try that again' I wouldn't have minded, but it was every $£"£ing song! I just found it irritating and apparently they always play the same setlist which I would find boring. On a side note I'm not much of an Oasis fan although I find them hilarious to listen to in interviews. Lot's of other indie bands I do like. Keep up the great work, these types of videos are fun.
I enjoy a lot of Fear Factory but I definitely agree that they have recycled a lot of their stuff over the years. I feel the same way as you in regards to Soulfly and Skindred. Soulfly had a few good tracks but nothing in comparison to his time with Sepultura. I would recommend the later Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy albums however as they are much more in line with his Sepultura days. I never got into Skindred. They seem like cool guys but the music just does nothing for me. Glad you enjoyed the video bro 🤘
This is always a fun topic on either side of it. I'm sure a lot of people would be surprised to learn that I love KISS(a band that gets a ton of hate) and I absolutely can not stand the Rolling Stones(with the exception of a few early tunes of theirs).
Not exactly metal (though often surprisingly heavy), but I’m always shocked by the amount of hate Trevor Rabin era Yes gets. The album BIG GENERATOR is so fucking good for poppy ‘80 prog rock and the title track basically precursors djent!
Allmost the best death metal is late 80s early 90s the stockolm sound the Gothenburg sound, carccas black metal war metal, grindcore goregrind, tdrd the 90s was the biggest explosion in evolution and creativity for extreme metal
I'll give you my take on Slayer.... when Rain in Blood came out a guy I knew bought it. He listened to only the first song and hated it. He gave it to me and said you might like this. I listened to the whole album and thought it was absolutely garbage and threw it away. Later I found out my brother had South of Heaven and listened to that and most of that was fairly good. After that he bought the next couple of albums. I listened to those and all the songs were garbage. Was never into trash in the first place but got and enjoyed 3 of Metallica's albums Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning and Justice for All... Liked Ride the Lightning best and thought the others were OK. Never got into Megadeth... great musically buy hated the vocals and never found any of their songs to be memorable.... Songs from Metallica haven't heard in decades I still have in my head, but not a single Megdeth song sounds familiar even when I try listening to them again.... just can't stand the singing.
Fair enough. I have already talked about how much I love Slayer and Metallica but I agree with you on Megadeth. I think they do have some amazing songs but most of it is just very mid for me and Mustaine's vocals have alway s put me off
I think the problem with SOAD, at least the problem I had with their later stuff, is that their lyrics generally became more about the silly noises and weird words being repeated so it sounded like they thought they were saying something profound but it was just nonsense.
Weird that the thing you don't like is the thing I love about them. I like how they don't take their music/themselves seriously and have fun with it. Which is great because Nobody sounds like them.
How did Alice In Chains and Faith No More makes this list? What's wrong with people. I can understand some of the other heavier bands can be polarising. I agree with Oasis and U2. Not my favourites, but done some good stuff and are over hated.
Pantera... yeah I never could get into them in the late 80s and by 1990 I completely gave up on the American music scene.... just had a massive hate for grunge. And thought the Nu Metal and Death Metal were not Melodic ( excluding Melodic Death Metal) and had moved on to what I considered more Melodicly and Rythmicly complex styles like Salsa and Mexican and Latin music. Mostly any 90s song I liked that got radio play were European Bands and Singers... haven't gone back to American music and likely never will.
I could go on for hours with all the bands I hate, but I'll try and just do 10. Hard to understand hate for Slayer or Pantera, especially since this is mainly a metal channel. Those two bands are part of the backbone of all metal. Incredible legacy and amazing albums. I understand the hate for Mastodon. A band that changes their musical style as much as they change their underwear. I loved the first 3 albums, then they started getting commercial, then went very mainstream, then went back to hard rock/metal, then dropped another really mainstream, boring album. Very irritating. Korn is OK, but nothing special. Oasis had some good songs back in the 90's, but a band I never listen to anymore. I also don't get the hate for Alice in Chains. I really dig that band, especially those first two albums. My list of manure: 1. BabyMetal (an absolute embarrassment) 2. Limp Bizkit (obviously) 3. Blink 182 (and all the bands that sound like them) 4. Avenged Sevenfold 5. Sleep Token 6. System of a Down 7. Ghost (overrated, boring rock) 8. Papa Roach 9. Any rap artist (horrible ripped off "music" and even worse in the lyrical department) 10. Any country artist (the most basic and dumb lyrics ever-woman, check...weekend, check...pickup truck, check)
I guess i don't get how Mastodon sounds more commercial. I like that they make music that doesn't handcuff them stylisticly. Besides, i haven't heard anything close to them on mainstream radio. Versatile and musically skilled band not afraid to take risks.
I actually love almost all the bands on this list. Everyone has different taste, and that’s a good thing. As far as some bands mentioned, there’s always an asshole. I’m usually a happy go lucky guy but I admit I can be a a total dick. Any way I really enjoy your videos, it’s nice to see you roaming that beautiful landscape instead of sitting in a room. Keep doing what you’re doing. From southern Oregon,USA.
Yes my dude! Right on with Oasis. I remember hearing Definitely Maybe and thinking goddamn it’s the Sex Pistols. I never heard the Beatles thing and still struggle to be fair. They’re a good rock n roll band and the sound of the northern council estate which also resonates with me. I won’t have it that they’re shit. People saying they’re not heavy, yeh cos they’re not metal. People saying they rip off others tunes, yeh but like a handful and it’s rarely all the song. People saying it’s not technical guitars, yeh but the tunes are good and that’s what matters. Give me an Oasis song over Yngwie Malmsteen widdling away any hour, minute or day of the week. Oasis are good, I’m glad they’re back. I think it’s good for guitar music and rock n roll. We should be proud as a nation to have them.
Definitelya gree with some of your comment here, though I do hear a lot of Beatles in them personally. That's fine though, i mean I enjoyt eh Beatles too. Oasis were definitely among the last of a certain breed of "rockstar swagger" type bands, the likes of which you didn't see much of after at all. You're probably right that their return would be good for rock music. If they can keep it together long enough.
@@DamnableReverendyes you’re absolutely right. The charts for a long time have been dominated by singer/songwriters and solo artists. It’d be nice if Oasis can come back and trigger a resurgence of the classic band back into the charts.
I might reconsider early "The Offspring". What I remember from the first album is pretty good, and I still don't know the second album (apart from the good song "Burn It Up"). However, I might never again listen to "Smash", "Ixnaye On the Hombre" (my first album of them) or the songs "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)" and "Why don't you get a job". I stopped hearing their albums after "Hombre".
I really like Korn. Their first four albums were mostly great (a few duff tracks on Follow the Leader notwithstanding), and I even like their new stuff, the last two albums were very good, and I'd say The Nothing in particular is up their with those first four albums. If people want to gatekeep and all that bollocks, fine, I don't want to be part of their shitty closed scene.
Pretty much exactly how I feel about them. First 4 are great and Untouchables has some real bangers as well. I was very impressed with the Nothing and Requiem was decent as well
Death, Metallica, Architects (until recently) and Avenged Sevenfold. As for Mastodon, I don’t know. They're not bad, but I don't feel compelled to listen.
I have never been a huge thrash fan in all honesty though I'm willing to try out these bands. Are these you recommendations or are there others I should check out?
Korn ''borrowed'' (in my opinion) from 'Chaos A.D.' by Sepultura-released in '93. Give it a listen and take notice. As did all the rest of the 'new metal' bands, as was the fashion of the time.
A lot of people borrowed from Chaos A.D., especially a lot of modern hardcore bands. You could also say that Sepultura borrowed a lot from Korn for the Roots album
@@ThatMetalBloke I guess you COULD say that, but I certainly wouldn't. I'd say that Sepultura forged their own path, and 'Roots' was rooted in Brazilian rhythm and heritage (pun intended) and took zero 'inspiration' from Korn. But I am biased against Korn- as I got into metal shortly before '...And Justice for All' was released. I didn't like the 'New metal' sound, and was very disappointed that Sepultura went in the direction that they did. I think 'Arise' was and is a metal masterpiece and wanted more of that. But to my young metal head ears, Sepultura were the founders of that 'new metal' sound.
@@Nirtep I love Max era Sepultura and have nothing but respect for them. They were always inspired by the trends of the time. Arise is an infusion of thrash and death metal while Chaos A.D. was Industrial and groove metal. Roots was obviously about their heritage and bought in many traditional elements of their culture but it also included Nu-metal. They even recorded it in the same studio as Korn and used the same producer to do it.
System of a down for me, id rather listen to nails on a chalkboard than ever have to listen to that band again, thankfully Serj isnt interested in a reunion.
Good list! I can recall everyone in my school HATING Korn. I remember hearing "Blind" and I thought it was catchy and a bit original, so their debut album was acceptable (albums after that, I frankly just didn't like their musical approach). Korn seemed contrived or over-produced, there was just something ingenuine about them.
Surprised to hear you say you think Korn are ingenuine as Johnathan's lyrics are a big part of it for me. I totally agree that they are overproduced however.
U2 Unforgettable Fire is a great album. Zooropa to me is were I stop listening. Gojira while not on this list could be really divided. Like them till Magma. Also Inflames is a hot one. I just like them in general early and new stuff.
I don't know if I like anything too "controversial" in the eyes of your average metalhead. I do like symphonic metal, which is a genre that gets dunked on a lot. And I like a lot of pop music. My current profile pic is a Kylie Minogue album for a reason (Body Language, from 2003 - a top 3 pop albums of all time candidate imo). And believe it or not, but the last Miley Cyrus album and the last three Kesha albums were all quite good. The newest Kesha album (Gag Order) is one of the 5 best albums of 2023 in my honest opinion. Lady Gaga is cool too. Chromatica is a great album especially. Still - probably not exactly controversial opinions. Although saying that Smile is a good Katy Perry album will piss a lot of pop music nerds off. I doubt metalheads would care haha It's a lot easier to piss people off by saying what bands you don't like.
I like a lot of the artists you mention here as well and I am going to be doing a "Guilty Pleaasures" list at some point. Not that I feel guilty for liking any of them but the gatekeepers would have you think otherwise.
Love/hate for me with Oasis. Absolutely Love the arrogant rockstar songs like acquiesce, rock n roll star But can’t stand the slow Beatles rip offs like champagne supernova and wonderwall
The Joshua Tree is a classic. I grew up listening to that record, and because of that, I can't completely loathe U2. A certain album being blasted onto every Apple user's iTunes libraries at once a decade ago miiiiiiight be one of those OTHER reasons people are annoyed with U2 as well... The only bands I genuinely freaking *HATE* are those bands in that small problematic lyrical niche of black metal called "National Socialist" Black Metal (or N*zi black metal). Although a couple of them CAN play their instruments, I freaking DETEST that subgenre and its incredibly dangerous lyrics. I wish I could wipe my memory clean of *all* of those bands, to be completely honest.
You are absolutely right about the iPod thing. Outrageous for them to do that. I do enjoy a lot of their music though. Agree with you on that section of the black metal scene also.
I used to listen to Oasis alot during Brit pop but they lost me after What's the Story. The dynamic ticketing scandal on the reunion tour was a disgrace.
I just want to say one more thing -- I don't hate Pantera, and in fact I think Cowboys is a great album; Trendkill is indeed pretty good too, very heavy and all. But i don't respect them. I think their attitude is just terrible and say what you will about their silly 80s stuff when the band was young and naive, but their refusal to acknowledge it is just a pain in the arse at this point. What's more while I kn ow they got heavier, Phil arguably giving them a kick in the butt and all, I still see a lot of parallels between what they were doing in the 90s and their 80s stuff. Yes, really. That kind of groovy stuff, nu metal, etc, was like the 90s equivalent of glam. Dimebag was a pretty amazing guitarist but he had this weird tendency to waste his talent and I kind of feel that may ahve been true of his brotehr as well. I blame in part substance abuse and also the musical trends of the time. Seems like Damageplan and Hellyeah were really where they wanted to go. I would rather listen to Power Metal, Projects in teh Jungle etc than Rinventing the Steel...you probably think I'm kidding, but nah...
I think they had some legit good songs fro their glam period and I also don't rate Reinventing the Steel very highly. I think all the issues within the band very very prevalent by that point and it showed in the music. I never got into Damageplan or Hellyeah at all. I thought they were both awful if I am quite honest
they were really bad, and that's exactly what I mean. To me, teh "glam" period of Pantera wa just them being kind of naive. The legit good songs are mostly in the vein of cool speed metal, and to be honest, I am more into 80s uS traditional metal bands than the groove stuff that came along when I was getting into metal in the 90s. Some of that early pantera stuff reminds me of bands like metal Church more than Poison or Motley Crue and I can definitelyd ig that a lot. Some very bad songs on every album though, but for me, that extends to their 90s "classic" period too. Just a band I am in general pretty ambivalent about. Really love a few tracks though and like i said, Cowboys is near perfect for me. Love Phil witht eh high heavy metal voice -- wouldnt' have minded him keeping that going for a little longer honestly.
Lack of “politics” is one thing which slows heavy metal down as a whole. When people group huge humanitarian issues into “politics” and say it isn’t for them to talk or even think about, that’s not a good look, that isn’t impressive - what it comes across as is either others don’t matter to you or you’re privileged enough to not “have to care” what happens in the world, and I don’t think that’s a virtue by any means. The “rift” which is supposed to make “politics” taboo is make-believe. I’m an artist. I’ll write about whatever and say whatever. Nobody has any agency to say “you can’t say this”, that attitude is the total antithesis to rock and roll.
Having just made a comment espousing tolerance and all, i do have to say, or to ask i geuss, What kind of sick puppy hates Queen? Look, I understand maybe not being a fan of their random guitar-less excursions or maybe finding them a bit theatrical and all, but if you listen to metal, youv'e already embraced musical theatre to a large extent. Queen is just such a cool band, looked at from almost any angle. I don't know if they would have gotten along but to me, Blue oyster Cult is kind of a similar concept, in that both bands tend to go off on some pretty weird tangents, and also, have a very democratic approach to creation, where it's not unusual to have all members take part in and get credit for songwriting. Yeah, Queen leans a little harder on Freddie as a "frontman", but it's like both bands have this super relaxed, easy-going approach to writing music that I just love. You get the feeling that there's no dictator in either of these bands, and when that changes is when stuff starts to kind of go wrong.
Yeah, I couldn't understand the hatred for Queen but each to their own I guess. I love the band and always will. I have never really listened to much Blue Oyster Cult but I am pretty sure I would like them from what I have heard.
@@ThatMetalBloke So far I've only watched a few of your videos, but from waht I can tell, i would guess you'd really like BOC as well. If you care to check it out, the Heavy metallurgy youtube channel did an entire 3+ hour long video talking about their entire discography from three or so different perspectives. In my opinion, Secret Treaties from 1974 and Fire of Unknown Origin from 1981 might be their best albums, so if you wanted to start somewhere, I think those would be really good places to go. They're a really addictive and interesting band with a cool aesthetic that goes far beyond the big radio hits, but even those aren't bad (can't deny that "Don't Fear the RReaper" and "Godzilla" are good tracks!).
Mastadon and Korn just dont do it for me, but that does not mean they are bad bands. Slayer are a good band. 90s Pantera are great. Oasis had some good songs. SOAD is a great band. Alice in Chains is one of the best 90s bands. I dont mind U2 but not my fav band. FNM have many good songs and are a big influence on Nu Metal. I think that If people hate them then it is not because of their music. Mr Bungle on the other hand is a very strange band.
All these are great except for a few, Oasis never rated, can't stand having stuff rammed down my throat, poor man's Beatles, never took to Alice or Korn don't hate them just meh for me, used to love the early U2 but I've lost all interest, it's all subjective of course haha p.s. anyone who dismisses Queen and hasn't listened to the first 3 masterpieces can't really have an opinion for me, keep up the good work.
I hear you when you say oasis maybe reminding you of a particular time in your life....a few of my mates were into oasis mainly because it was "cool"but personally I thought they were s***e and 30 years later they are still s***e🤷
Good idea for a video. We are all entitled to our own view on what we enjoy. You have a new follower today. Also on Spotify. I have a ton of playlists. If you can find one then you can see the rest. Try finding "Favorite 25 Metal Bands Ranked". You might get some ideas from my lists! Cheers man!
The only Korn i listen to are songs off the 1st 2 records. John Davis is not even an ok vocalist. Off key, no range, indistinguishable from someone deaf sounds. At the very least, tone deaf. Lack of ability aside their sound became way too derivative of what is making it on the radio. They completely rely on production to do the heavy lifting. Which is the way to big money and stay relevant enough to get airplay. Basically the same as Slipknot but dont need a gimmick or masks and have way more original sound.
Queen, Pantera, Faith No More, Mastodon, Alice in Chains, I love too❣️🎸 ❤️ 🔥 ✨ 🎶 Oasis really suck hard.. They are just a cheap Beatles rip off.. 😂 U2.. 🙈🤣.. Twisted Sister, Poison and the singer of Dream Theater are also seriously hurting my ears .. 😁😂
I'm expecting a lot of negative responses to Oasis and U2 but I think they're great bands. I agree with you on Dream Theatre singer. Great band but the vocals take me out of it
Yes, I can't get in to Dream Theater either. Too prog and the lead singers voice is not great IMO. It is fine if people like that sort of thing. Just not for me. Anyone trying to do the beatles are going to get some criticism but I prefer the to the real thing. The Beatles are overated. You can be the greatest ever and still be overated. Metallica are the greatest Heavy Metal band IMO but not the best Trash Metal Band. That has to go to Slayer. I admit Metallica they might be a tad bit overated but to keep going after Cliff's death and get more popular is amazing. Lars on the other hand is a seperate issue for another day. I just wish they had kept doing heavy shit like in the 80s. First 5 albums are all great in different ways. If you want to listen something great then check out the bass channel. He plays the bass to the entire And Justice album. It is Amazing. It takes the album to a new level.
Pantera allways had blades like pills and a copele of frinds angry power blades like this love, they are the only good grove metal band all the others just rip them off badly
Don't know if you saw my message from a few weeks back but if you want to send me a link for your Facebook page I will promote in a video. These types of videos get good views so I will do it on one like this
Corns first album was heavy. Like a heavy can of farts. They always have sucked, still suck and will always suck. And yes, they are million dollar popular. That has nothing to do with their talent though but more in line with the dumbing down of our society. New metal in general is just absolute garbage. But, you do you, boo.
Oasis are supremely overrated. The vocals are a whiny mess but I can certainly appreciate the guitar work. I can’t believe that many people hate on AIC. That’s just disappointing to me. I get that there are songs people never want to hear again (looking at you Bohemian Rhapsody and Enter Sandman) but a good deal of these artists are massively popular for a reason 🤷🏼♂️
I have always liked Oasis and think they get way too much hate but on the other hand I know that the Gallagher brothers do not help themselves in that regard. I was surprised with the AIC hate as well
