The tip about printing and tracing is so good! I recently started doing that for my own designs - I draw something symmetrical on procreate, then print and use graphite paper to transfer it to my watercolor paper. I'll definitely try printing a few ghibli scenes to trace - like a gouache coloring page! Also! Love the love for Arietty. That movie is so underrated!

HI Melanie, I notice that you always use a rather small round brush. I was surprised to see you use it on that big painting from Spirited Away. I'm wondering if it provides more water control? Or maybe it's just what you're used to. But I'm always impressed how you can get such smooth, consistent results with such a small brush. I'd appreciate if you'd comment about why you use such small brushes. Thanks! Oh - and to show how different people are different, I actually prefer to draw/paint the people from Ghibli movies, because they're so stylized and simple in design, whereas I always find the landscapes intimidating - so much detail! I think I've only done one Ghibli landscape, but it turn out pretty well!

Actually I'm using multiple brush sizes on this piece but it's mostly smaller ones because the painting has tons of details. I was mostly coloring it in like a coloring book and with a bigger brush I would've covered up a lot of the sketch lines :) Gouache is a rather thick paint generally so I use mainly smaller brushes for maximum detail & control. I use bigger ones for flat backgrounds :)
