i am beyond happy that i found your channel, you’ve taught me how to snowboard just through your videos and it has gotten me through my first day on a mountain, how to select my gear, how to adjust and get everything ready, and even what i will need with me on my snow trip. keep up the amazing work kev!
I've never went snowboarding or skiing until last week. I watched this video and your other video on how to toe slide and heel slide before the trip and it helped out tremendously. I was hitting the blue slopes as a first time snowboarder before the end of the day. Thank you for the amazing videos and lessons!

So i did my first snowboard run yesterday. I watched this video and went. No problem skating around went straight for the lift up on a blue slope and went for it. Everything came naturaly apart from catching edges, great video!
Thx for the tips! Hit the slopes for the first time ever this weekend and I didn’t have an instructor, but this video gave me the tools to learn and after a couple hours I started feeling pretty comfortable on the board 👌🏻
As a beginner what really helped me was boarding on the edge. I couldn't link my turns that well when I was sliding and it was always awkward. But when I realized I can use the flex of the board to enter the turn with my front using the downhill edge while my back foot was still using the uphill edge it was basically one of the simplest things I ever did. From there it was very easy to link my turns and ride on the edge. Add a little slide here and there to slow speed and good to go.
going on my first ski trip and I’m super nervous to be around some more well-versed people, but this really makes me feel confident to see and have some idea of how to do basic movement! Thank you so much!!
Hey Kevin, long time listener, first time caller.... Great to see you returning to your roots in such a high quality video. If you are planning a refresh of the beginner Playlist I'm all for it. Getting people out there and having fun as quickly as possible is what this thing is all about.
Saving this video! I’ve been snowboarding for 4 years and still can’t heel edge. I do all my hills on my toe edge which I believe is causing ankle discomfort and muscle spasms later in the day. As a newly 50 year old, the fear takes over. I’ll keep watching this video. Thank you.
I can’t thank you enough for this video and others. I had my first snowboard day at age 40. I did have some skateboarding experience. Even though some things felt unnatural at first I followed all the steps. I had one of the best days of my life. I went down more experienced slopes after 2 hours of practicing these techniques. I saw such pretty views and was comfortable going fast and controlling speed with frontside and backside. I rarely fell and when I did it was slow enough didn’t hurt. Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge and enjoying snowboarding better than I could have imagined.
Wow, so that's how we do it! I always just assumed a wizard cast me down the hill. Point it and go as I always say. Donderlab nailed it with the camera work! So supremely excellent!
Hey man, just wanted to say that I watched your video before I went snowboarding for the first time today and this was so helpful- I had such a great experience. Just wanted to say thanks, you’re doing a great job!
I’ve been skiing for 8 years! I am taking a lesson tomorrow morning. I am super excited! Ive been skateboarding for a long time and that will probably help! Thanks for these tips. I will edit this comment tomorrow night and tell you guys how it went. Thanks again! 😊 Edit: it went great! I snowboarded for 4 hours. I tried a bigger hill but I was getting tired so I got sloopy. I'm gonna be sore for days. 😅 anyway I really enjoyed it! Thank you for your tips! God bless!
Went snowboarding for the first time about a week ago and loved it so much your vids helped me have an amazing first time ‼️ preciate what your doing man
Man, I can't stress enough how important it is to get a beginner-compatible board. I just moved from a Rome Modrocker (flat rocker), which gave me a ton of trouble, to a Bataleon Magic Carpet, and what a world of difference did it make! huge!
Went snowboarding for the first time last season. I only went once, but I loved it. I'm getting amped for this next season and I've been scouring you channel for all the tips and insights I can find. Love your channel! Keep it up!
Thanks! I haven’t been in seven years and am a perpetual amateur 😅 I went yesterday but only did the gondola runs in fear of getting off the lifts, haha. I had forgotten the best way to get off the lift without biting it. I’m going to practice the one foot out on the bunny hill today until I get it down.
dude. seriously, i’ve watched this video 12 times. going on our first trip tomorrow, have to learn and guide my little boy down the hill as well. daddy needs to be on his game, and, just, THANK YOU! teaching is the greatest gift!! let you know how it goes.
Hi! I just wanted to let you know that this video really helped me. I was trying snowboard for the first time (my ski level is decent) I went 30 min on the school track to practice it and after that, I went on the top. Obviously, I spent the day falling and adjusting, but after 3h-4h, I was almost doing slaloms and barely fall. The only tip I accepted to hear from my friend was : bend your knees more. I thought I had to bend them that much only at higher speed but nope, helped me transtition from heels to toes and vice versa. Looking foward to my second day of snowboard!
Damn! The new camera/filming/editing is looking slick! Your older beginner videos got me back into the sport and this will do the same for so many more people
My thoughts exactly. Back to basics with some neat video enhancements will make this another classic, eagerly sought by newcomers to snowboarding. Love it...
Ok today it was my first time snowboarding i spent the 2 days before watching several times this video, and guess what i did great man thanks to you I wish I can send you a video to show you
The most helpful tip I ever got was from a lift op. He said pinch your knees together on a toe turn and push them out (like doing a squat) on a heel turn. Not technically perfect, but it got me up and running and I was able to make adjustments from there.
I came back to say that I manage to learn snowboarding just with your video and after 2 hour i came down on green and after 4 time on green I just straight on red and finish just with 3 fall but those falls was because there were a lot of ice on track.
i’m watching this after my first day. I started on the bunny hill and ended up on one of the runs of the highest hills. I don’t think I progressed to quickly because i followed all of these tips without even knowing 😂
Omg, this video is everything I need! I’ve watched so many random tips lately, but this video puts it all together and is easier to process in my head. Thank you so much, Kevin!🙌
Hey man, just wanted to say that I watched your video before I went snowboarding for the first time today and this was so helpful- I had such a great experience. Just wanted to say thanks, you’re doing a great job!
Kevin, man you’ve saved my life starting to snowboard. Any tips/tricks for spring boarding in slush/POW combo?? I’ve been between WA & CO and struggled recently with spring slush
The is definitely the most high quality video you have ever put out. It’s really well done and definitely your best vid yet. Great job Kev keep ui the good work.
One tip I have, is don't pull your heels up in your boots when doing a toe side turn. That'll cause you to balance all your weight onto your toes and at higher speeds that's a very wobbly position to be. Balancing on your toes is hard enough just standing up and it's not any easier on a snowboard. Make sure to just bend your knees a bit more and lean into the bindings with your feet flat against the board. That'll make sure you say stable in your athletic stance and keep your center of balance controlled during the turn.
Had an all day snowboarding lesson for my 40th and broke my wrist an hour in..ploughed through it but had to end the session just before linked turns as the pain was unbearable, so this vid really helps with the last part I needed to learn! Hopefully back on the snow soon all healed and ready to learn :)
Didn't know a lot of those things and I have one full season under my belt and would consider myself intermediate lol. Will definitely implement those tips tomorrow already
Hi Kevin, I am wondering if you are left-handed or right-handed. The reason I am asking this because I am learning which leg I should put as a front leg.
I like this so much! Really helpful, so I would like to get out to Montana and perhaps work there involved in the skiing scene these tutorial videos really help me feel better about my confidence going in to the slippery slidy
Thank you fore this information :) nexst weekend i am going on a snowboard fore the first time with freinds! I have just been watching your videos 24/7 😂
Hey kevin, yesterday was my fifth day Snowboarding, Now I go up to the highest slope at the top of the mountain because of you. I remember about a month ago I was watching these videos and saying it’s gonna take forever to be able to get out of the bunny slope and into some higher stuff but it only took me a small amount of time to be able to hit the steepest slope. Now I am practicing to hit small jumps. Just wanted to say thank you, and keep doing this these videos because you could help a lot of people like you helped me. 🖤
