I am new to homeschooling. I was forced to pull my son from high school due to our school not providing enough academic support and the drug and alcohol issues at school. Your videos are so helpful

Thank you for sharing all of your information. What is your opinion on K12 Keystone on line homeschooling and K12 Legacy on line homeschooling ? Which one do you recommend for Middle school and High school kids ? Thank you. Abdel

You mean the Keystone School from K12? I think K12 is great for individual courses. It's a school though instead of an online homeschooling program, so I didn't include it here. But I did recently do an overview of the K12 offerings. And I was just talking with Legacy School about possibly doing a review, so hopefully that will be out soon!

I am completely brand new to homeschooling and am going to use power homeschool starting within a few weeks. I know from in school my kids struggled with on level reading. Are there any additional programs or websites I can use to help them excel with reading at grade level to catch up?

IXL is good, Readability Tutor, Night Zookeeper. Or Readarific which is something really special that my daughter did over the summer. I made a video about it at the start of summer and I am planning a follow up with the results very soon!

Hi, thank you so much for this review. I am confused now as to which program will be good for both of my kids, first and sixth grade. I want a homeschooling program that keeps records, has complete program curriculum, one that offers work at your own pace and not mandatory 5 days a week log in, isn't too expensive and that will accommodate both my first and middle schoolers, please which one do you recommend? Your suggestion/s will be greatly appreciated, thank you!

What do you know about Connections Academy / Pearson Education? Would you recommend it comparing to others. Something where they issue transcript and diploma.

Pearson is a private online school which is very different from an online homeschooling program. I would compare it to K12 because they have both public and private school options. There will be a mix of live, teacher-led online classes and offline work so you will have a flexible schedule. But it's a school, so there will be grades and transcripts and a diploma upon graduation. With homeschooling, the parent is usually responsible for these items.

I was interested in these programs too but they aren't available in every state. Unfortunately my state doesn't offer any of these tuition free options.

@@audreyeaves3536we have been with connections academy ( it’s free ) in Southern California since 2017 it’s been great we travel everywhere and bring the laptop, just as long as lesson modules are done, teachers are very easy to reach and respond within 24hr a or less and very responsive no pressure no negativity no drama. They organized in person graduations for kids as well which was awesome

For dual credits mostly you will be looking at online schools rather than online homeschooling programs. So then it depends on the curriculum software they are using whether it has a read aloud option.

I for one would like to see a review of the Ron Paul Curriculum. I created the early math courses for grades 1-4 for the RPC. The high school curriculum is amazing.

Which program would u recommend for my student who no one has taught her? Nothing in school she is behind, like kindergarten level she is 15 in the 9th, but not on the high level. im seeking help

That is such a tough question. You can send me an email if you need more help, but I would start by using something adaptive to assess her levels such as IXL. That will be able to determine her levels in math and reading and help close the gaps. Otherwise I would start her at the beginning and have her go through everything and then you can skip over things if you need to. Maybe try Miacademy and just set all the grades at a low grade level to start?

We've fallen behind at times too and I know it's stressful and can make you feel a lot of scary things but just breath and take it one step at a time. It's never too late for her to learn and catch up! I was very far behind at 15 but no one would ever know that now. Focus on having her read 60 minutes every day. Pick a new book each week. You can stick with the classics if you're unsure. Have her write, journal style, prompt questions, copy work from books, etc. You can have her start memorizing facts to help with foundational knowledge of a multitude of subjects. There are specific lists you can look up. And then with math, start from the ground up, just take an assessment to see where she's at. You got this. Good luck!

I’m surprised IXL wasn’t mentioned..I first used IXL for my son about 7-8 ago..later he interned for IBM and was accepted UNH with a scholarship. I’m using IXL now for my 9yo but would like community interaction and support such as Mia Academy mentioned in this video

I didn't mention IXL because it's not a complete curriculum for all subjects, at least not in my opinion. I think it's a great practice tool though, and I especially love the diagnostics arena!

For secular I'd go with Time 4 Learning or Miacademy. For Christian I'd go with Monarch.

Have you looked into brilliant microschool? I've also heard time 4 learning is good for this. Anything truly self paced is going to be good. I'd stay away from power homeschool though because the lesson videos are a little long.

Not too many online homeschooling programs with live classes. You might just need to do a mix of things, try outschool for some live classes and do another curriculum/online program for the rest.

I will go with time for learning for my 1st grader and kindergartner. But how to tranfer from public schools to homeschooling? They go back to school in 12 days , but i want to home school. Do i just keep them home and homeschool? Or do i need some sort of forms first maybe ? I need help transferring from public to homeschool...

What state do you live in? Send me an email and I'll try to help. Or go to hslda.org/legal and pick your state. If your kids are already enrolled in school, you'll need to withdraw them first, but it's a simple process in most cases.

Honestly I don't even recommend doing anything for Pre K if you're going to homeschool just let the kids play and teach through just going about your daily life. For Kindergarten I would take it slow as well. But if you're looking for an online program, either Time 4 Learning or Homeschool+.

No, except for excelsior classes. For the most part, an online homeschooling program is just a curriculum that happens to be done online. A curriculum cannot be accredited.

We've used both Time 4 Learning and Miacademy in the past. This year we did not. We used Essentials in Writing for grammar and writing, Dimensions for math as well as Prodigy and Synthesis for some extra practice. We used schoolhouseteachers.com for some unit studies. We also recently started Life of Fred for math as an extra. We did night zookeeper for more writing practice. Next year I'll probably use Study.com for their social studies. Oh and we did Mystery Science this year as well. And we also got a bunch of textbooks from the Critical Thinking company. Sounds like a lot and a mess! But it worked out pretty well i think!

We love the good and beautiful! Personally it's my favorite workbook style we've tried. It's so easy to follow and is really enriching in the information. With math, my daughter can scan the QR code and get a little personal lesson video before each chapter.

Anyone can use these to learn, but if you're looking for an actual US diploma, you'll want an online school instead of an online homeschooling program.
