Games that others could easily be in a top 10 list... Lightning Force (aka Thunder Force IV), Phantasy Star IV, Alien Soldier, Castle of Illusion, Ristar, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Rocket Knight Adventures, Contra: Hard Corps, Revenge of Shinobi, Shinobi III, Herzog Zwei, Landstalker, Thunder Force III, Master of Monsters, Beyond Oasis... there are so many great games for the system, that it's impossible to make a top 10 list without leaving out games that could easily be argued for being included.
This WhatCulture list couldn't get much more closer to perfect imo This would be my top 10 roughly (I never owned or played classics like Castlevania: Bloodlines, Aladdin, Gunstar Heroes, Contra: Hard Cops, Earthworm Jim, Michael Jacksons Moonwalker etc so I have much of an opinion on them although they do look good. I hate 'Beat em ups' like Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat. And I hate RPG's where you spend more time reading conversations on screen than anything else) 1 - Kid Chameleon 2 - Streets of Rage 2 3 - Sonic 3 and Knuckles 4 - Ecco The Dolphin 2: The Tides of Time, 5 - Quackshot, 6 - Desert Strike 7 - Home Alone 8 - Global Gladiators 9 - Road Rash 2 10 - James Bond 007: The Duel Special mentions to: Castle of Illusion, Dynamite Headdy, Comix Zone, Chuck Rock, General Chaos, Golden Axe, James Pond 2: Codename Robocod, Maui Mallard, Taz-Mania, Boogerman, Revenge of Shinobi, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade...
MinusLife this is actually quite better, having a comment section focusing about the video is far better than a video with a comment section full of people making unrelated wrestling jokes, complain about wwe and who is the narrator
Definitely. I've enjoyed quite a few vids and hearing their outputs on games like No Man's Sky and the lists. Far better than everyone arguing for 200 comments on who was first and why Adam isn't commentating or if it's John O' Clock or not
Close, but not quite. I think Aladdin, Shining Force 2, Phantasy Star 4, Streets of Rage 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Beyond Oasis, Gunstar Heroes, Castlevania Bloodlines, Earthworm Jim 2, and Mega Turrican are the ten best.

No Story of Thor ? No Landstalker ? They were such wonderful Adventure Games with a golden heart of Zelda in it and an amazing Story withing a very long gameplay. Upgrading your gear, unlock new abilities , doing dungeons solving puzzles defeating bosses, such wow in these game and no mention here :(
Story of Thor is Legend of Oasis in NA right? I played that when I was young (it was my brothers copy my first consoles were the N64 and PS1). but it was great along with Phantasy star and shining series.
Story of Thor 2 on Saturn was a gorgeous looking game, and with a cheat it was 2-player. Played that one a hell of a lot more than I ever played the first.
Genesis and Snes are still great today. My nieces and nephews and my own kids love the games on that system. 80yr olds will play columns vs 8 yr olds. My six yr old has a tablet and a megadrive, tbh he uses the tablet to run emulators of classic games. In a short time there will be no physical consoles, dvds etc. The value of the classic stuff will skyrocket
Hmm, cool, many of my favourite MegaDrive games are here, including my absolute favourite: Ecco 2. The one thing that I think is missing is a JRPG; I'd have included either Phantasy Star IV or, more likely, Shining Force 2.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles was good...but Sonic 3 alone had some of the best Sonic music. Icecap Zone, Mid-Boss theme, Final boss theme...so good...! Even Knuckles's theme was good...
super Sf2 and the sf 2 champion edition were 2 different games, the snes version of the champion edition was sf2 turbo. as a gaming channel you guys should know that.
I see that there are literally DOZENS of us SEGA people. If any of you is itching to play SoR2 again, there's a fan made remake based primarily on 2 but has features from all three games in the series with a whole lot of new gameplay features. Very well made and definitely worth checking out before SEGA hits it with a C&D... again.
Great list, and I absolutely agree about Sonic 2! But I'd add: General Chaos, Pigskin Footbrawl, WWF Royal Rumble, Gain Ground, Golden Axe, and Rocket Knight!
Good video, happy I say I owned three of the ten you listed: Sonic 2 (and 3 as well), Aladdin, and World of Illusion. Good times. I still have Sonics 2 and 3 on my Xbox, I think I'll have to take a trip down memory lane after watching this video.
Phantasy star, golden Axe, the lion king, TMNT the hyperstone heist, zombies ate my neighbors, Rocketknight adventures plus the ones you mentioned Gunstar heroes, SSF 2 CE, Streets of Rage 2, Sonic 2 would be my top 10. But overall good selection
Very solid list. I have to agree with your comments on Sonic 2, and speaking of Aladdin/Disney license games, Lion King also holds up pretty well. But I was especially stoked to see Gunstar Heroes so far up, or as I like to call it, Contra on steroids.
Great list!!!!! My favorites: 1. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 2. X-Men 3. Spiderman vs. The Kingpin 4. Road Rash II 5. Streets of Rage 6. Kid Chameleon 7. Aladdin 8. Michael Jackson Moonwalker 9. Joe Montana Football '94 10. NHL '97 Honorable Mention: Golden Axe franchise..Triple Play '96...The rest of the Sonice franchise...Shinobi franchise.
My favorite Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games are: 1. Sonic 3. 2. Sonic 3 & Knuckles. 3. Streets of Rage 2. 4. Columns. 5. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. And 6. Ms. Pac-Man (Tengen version).
Personally, I would have put _Phantasy Star IV_ and mayhaps _Shadowrun_ on there, but all of what you mentioned are fantastic games. Props on the list.
whoa! ....... KID CHAMELEON, SPACE HARRIER, SHINOBI,...... What was that one game, where you go through this dungeon killing enemys in many different gruesome ways, until you get to the Dragon...?
Just now happened to come across this video but ima go ahead and add 3 more bad ass Sega games. #1 Jungle Strike (really all the Strikes were awesome) #2 Cool Spot and #3 Kid Chameleon. And as a couple of Honorable Mentions can't forget Tiny Toon Adventures and Global Gladiators
Wow, I actually had all 10 of these! Absolutely LOVED Gunstar Heroes but SOR2 probably my favourite. Shout out for Revenge of Shinobi, Jungle Strike and Speedball 2 as well!
It's a slightly dumbed down list with no adventure or strategy games listed, but I'm glad to see Aladdin, Street of Rage 2 & Comix Zone made it in. I'd have included Canon Fodder, Mega Lo Mania, Chaos Engine, Kid Chameleon, Populous, Phantasy Star 4, Shining Force 2
Oh.... what was three game where you was a guy with a jet pack and like a motorcycle that you could get inside or duck and control it. You could shoot and still could the bike and they had separate love bars i think. It was a awesome game. When i was like 7 i don't think i could ever beat the 3rd level tho lol. I remember the second level was so hard for me that i would spend hours trying to get to the 3rd then end up dieing soon after. I never really heard off anyone talking about it but when i seen a copy at a yard sale for $35 and finally had a name to look up on ebay the price was fair so it must have some following now. Then there was a side scroll beat em up with like kung fue dudes or something. It was best played in two player and was super fun
Kid Chameleon Fatal Labyrinth Altered Beast I get it... There are just too many but I feel as though they should have in the least had honourable mentions. I play all 3 regularly still on the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection on the PS3/Xbox 360.... A MUST BUY GAME!! Shit, I still as a 30 year-old man-child say "Power Up" in "that" voice every so often when I eat.
With games that were released on both SNES and Genesis, the SNES version almost always has better graphics and music. One exception to that rule is definitely Aladdin.
Take that first line in this video and apply that to the Atari 2600, C64 or ZX81 and you know that to be even more true then. Good graphics were few and far between.
OH, nononononononono. Not Echo! My nighmare! That game burned in empty hole into my heart because it was so sad and eerie, and also so confusing that you could not help the dolphin at all. I feel like it was meant to be a good game because it made it onto the six-in-one plug-and-play console with the Ooze and Gain Ground and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. That plug-and-play is fun, but the games on it are brutal. I still haven't got past the boss of Aquatic Ruin Zone on Sonic 2, all these years. I get utterly demolished once I reach the World War era of Gain Ground. I fall to pieces on the first stage of the Genetics Lab in The Ooze. But worst of all, I feel like I make no progress whatsoever whenever I play Ecco the Dolphin, besides causing a tornado that separates me from the pod. I don't know how Ecco 2 is, but Ecco 1 was just a depressing game in both the circumstances and the game design that didn't give any good hints.
Also sir when discussing the soundtrack for Ecco the Dolphin there is a picture of Rick Wakeman on the screen. I got excited and did some research and he was not involved with the soundtrack. Was just curious as to why you put him in.
Dude... WTF... There was never ever ever a single C&C game released for the genesis.... ROMS & Illegal copy protected pirated games don't count here...
Maybe not have all these platformers on here and have a classic like STARFLIGHT on the list instead? Oh sorry that wasn't available to rent from your local Blockbuster. Jog on.
I deffinetly miss quackshot and castle of illusion though. I think those were the disney's top contenders. Besides, a donaldduck/indiana jones back in 92? I mean, that game was my life
Fun fact, those "Disney games" were actually made by Sega themselves, which is why they were only ever on Sega consoles. And yeah they were pretty awesome.
It isn't though, and is the reason why Road Rash 2 gets rated higher every single time, just like Streets of Rage 2 is better than Streets of Rage 3. Desert Strike is better than Jungle Strike. Golden Axe is better than Golden Axe 2. Revenge of Shinobi is better than Shinobi 3...
I'm getting *real* tired of people saying old school gaming didn't care about graphics. Part of Sega's ad campaign against the SNES was about how THEIR GRAPHICS WERE BETTER!!! Take off the fucking nostalgia goggles and brush up on your history.
Now I have to defend TJ&E? The game was an early example of random generation, had funky tunes, funky aliens and great 2 player support. It's still appreciable today!
