Excellent video and a fascinating subject. The Storm's salary cap scandal of 2010 beats the rest by far. Craig Bellamy didn't help his club with his defiant speech to the media. It was a 'we do whatever we want' moment, which didn't endear the Storm to rugby league fans. From an NRL perspective, it showed it had teeth when needed. I was shocked by the penalties at the time, but in hindsight David Gallop got it right.
@@kazumakiryu3397 If you do your research you would find that Sharks weren't over the cap in 2016. and the Years they were over the cap was a minuscule amount compared to that of the Storm's breaches.
@@kazumakiryu3397 storm did it for many years breaching the salary cap. They hid things, had dodgy books. Please do some research of your own team lmao
It really sucked what Storm did. I Iove the team I really do, but man it hurt my soul to find out what they did. I’m glad they accepted the punishment and that they came back
This comment brings up several issues with your intelligence. Anyone with half a brain, or maybe even a pea brain, would understand that Penrith couldn't be over the cap because they don't get their players from the market. They develop in-house or buy players that are journeymen and turn them into stars! Oh, and they lose 2-3 international players per year genius 🤡💀
Who is cheating the system, right now? Well, they get away with it, until they are caught... Are Melbourne just that good? For so long? Even today? Is Bellamy innocent? Who knows...Maybe Bellamy is just that good, a one in a million coach...Or will history, in the future, show an evil genius? With what we have to work with now, he just seems like a genius coach... Great program, and it will provide content for as long as humans are human...
what makes me laugh is how the rooters r labelled as the "cheats" while half the comp have been done for it :P - ahhhh tall poppy syndrome is alive and well in oz lol
@@BUDU69 Why haven't they been pinged for it then ?????????? Let me guess........ Uncle nick buys them off Not a cap but a sombrero We've heard it all before and will again, .... YET it's never proven Jealous is a curse my friend Try coming up with some hard facts Instead of womping onall the time
It's been like that for the last 15 or so years. We always "cheat the comp", but conveniently, when we had that period where we missed the finals every year for a few years, we never cheated the comp then. 😂
Interesting that Melbourne are the most penalised team. Even teams after 2010 that breached the cap were treated in a more lenient manner. The peptide use by the Sharks was in my opinion a legitimate reason to punish players. As professional sportsmen you are responsible for what is put in to your body. Somehow a backdated 6 week suspension was sufficient in this case, even though it can be argued that the premiership was won on the back of the use of banned substances.
Almost all other clubs would have been kicked out of the competition if they systematically cheated the way Melbourne did.... Nrl was and still is very biased towards Melbourne because they are still trying so hard to have nrl work in Victoria and the only way to do that is to have a successful team
So, explain to me how the Eels salary cap issue is not worse than Melbourne's? 3 Million, over a 3 year period, that the club and board were well aware of, and still not reported against 1.7 million over 5 years, hidden from the NRL by a dodgy CEO. The only thing that Parra had stripped from them was their 9s trophy, simply because with all these payments, that's all they could win regardless.1 million per year in hidden payments is a lot more than $340000 per year.
The difference is with Parramatta the NRL knew or had an idea they had salary cap issues. I remember in 2015 the club was under investigation and were threatened with a points deduction before 2016. Parramatta's was also around third party payments. Melbourne's was a dual bookkeeping system where they had one set of contracts of players they submitted to the NRL, and then the real contracts were kept locked away. If not for the whistleblower then Melbourne would have never been caught, the NRL had absolutely no idea. Where as with Parramatta the NRL knew something wasn't right and had been onto them before. In 2016, as well Parramatta were $570,000 over the cap which was a lot less than the total for Melbourne. I think the people who did this video got the wrong figures.
You know what a hate about the storm being stripped of the premerships? The other teams will never get a chance to win that premiership so they still won its just a formality lol.
@@januariasg2837 No other team has come close to that run into the finals, especially from 8th place. They were wooden spoon contenders and out of nowhere exploded into the grand final and would've won had they not come up against cheats. No team has ever won outside of the top 4 and if any team were gonna do it, it was the Eels that year.
The problem is, you'd have to redo the finals entirely to find out the true winner; if rhe Eels finish 7th instead, do they beat the bulldogs week one? Do the Dragons still choke against the Tigers? We'll never know 🤷♀️😔
So Parra cheated 3 m , storm 1.7 , manly 1.5 …. Manly got off lightly compared to melb. Should have included arl , Canberra cheated heaps more than above teams.
It just shows you how many clubs have cheated the cap over the years yet for some reason Storm always get painted as the salary cap cheats. The funny thing is all those beta clubs that also cheated didn't win shit when they were cheating (with the exclusion of the 2002 Dogs who were dominating until caught). At least at Storm we won when we were over.
The storm went to great levels to create & hide the overpayments over many years only the broncos have gone to such lengths. Players on 2 contracts, yes Cam & Billy etc, should of got life bans gf rings should of been returned
@@johnward6921 the 90 raiders do deserve a mention, this was the first year we had a salary cap, which was introduced after Canberra couldn't pay it's players for the 89 season.
Wow never knew about the broncos one I think they shouldn't have gave the 2 points back Why the fuck did the cowboys get points stripped when they didn't didn't score with 14 men and broncos did? Both should have the same result IMO
@@simonainscough619 Bellyache and the playing group had no idea, it was Brian Waldron and a couple other Storm administrators that orchestrated the whole scandal. Read "Storm Cloud" by Paul Kennedy which goes through the scandal in detail.
@@thegraveyardshift2826 They must have known... It's not like the admin staff were keeping all the money for themselves, it was salary for the players.. hence salary cap breaching. More players getting more salary must have known
Very interesting topic here. But from what I got, Storm won three premierships while cheating and the others just cheated in vane without much success on the field except for the Dogs.
If I remember correctly, even with the 37 points stripped, they were still only like 2 or 4 points away from 14th lol Edit: I looked it up, my bad, they were 6 points off. They would've had to win every game of the season to even be 14th lol
I like how some of these are the result of stupidity and not malice. Seriously imagine losing comp points cause you lost count of 13 people, You'd be so filthy at yourself. 🤣
I'm not exactly allowed to speak as I support the "cheaters with integrity" but I doubt the players and Bellyache genuinely knew that the club was over, was something that the CEO was doing and only some admin staff knew about it
Your point is irrelevant, cheating wether you win or loss is no different. But showing prejudices to one team over another for the same misconduct is bullshit. The Essendon AFL football club has been put backwards 10-15years because of a doping scandal yet the Sharks NRL club win a grand final only a few years after doing the very same thing with the same supplier, it’s a joke!
The Parramattas is worst compared to storm . The salary cap has gone up from 2010 to 2016 and parra were 1 million over ? I'm sure the caps gone up by more than 700k over 6 years
We all know that all the clubs do back door deals and have 2 sets of books.. Melbourne were just the club that got caught. I’m a massive broncos fan, but I don’t believe for a second with all the money the club has that there’s not back door deals going on..
Storm first and daylight second. I would have thought it should be an easy fix moving forward with all players contracts being public knowledge and all player payments being conducted through the NRL. Clearly the punishments are not acting as good enough deterrents. Why not ban a club from participating in the NRL for 12 months for a first offence moving forward and banning them forever for a second offence of cheating the salary cap. Personally I feel the Storm should have been banned forever for keeping 2 sets of books for 5 years as this must surely be the worst type of cheating. Credit to them that now they are now the shining light in the NRL.
Ban forever? Settle down mate! Especially when you're trying to grow the game in Victoria. I get what your saying, despite the penalties to the Storm you had Parra, Manly and Cronulla all breaching the cap. It's a shame we don't have promotion/relegation so clubs could be relegated, like in Italian football when Juventus were relegated in 2006 when they were caught match fixing.
The thing that sucks about the Storm and Dogs ones is neither club went on a buying spree to put them over the cap. They just had an insane run of talent coming through the grades, like Smith, Slater, SBW, JT, etc. and the salary cap sort of punishes this. It's fair though, Penrith are copping it now, losing juniors left, right and centre, while still remaining successful without cheating. It just sucks when you have clubs like the Roosters buying the most sought after players every year and never getting caught, especially when they got the spoils in 2002 and also were done for being over the cap that season. Albeit no where near as much over.
The best thing about this is manly got robbed and then came back to beat storm 40 nil the next year and make storm the worst grand final team in the history of the game. Storm should have had their licence cancelled. The players all knew what was happening and said nothing and evaded tax so they should have been de-registered. The players who have had their names tarnished deserve everything they got for cheating.
The thing I find odd is none of the players claim they knew anything but then say if you signed a contract for $400K and all of sudden were getting extra money in your bank account and it didn't add up, wouldn't you be a bit suspicious?.
Say what you want but unless the NRL can go back in time, they can't actually take the storms grand final wins away, because the game still happened and the storm still won, stripping a title doesn't effect what actually happened in history lol
We definitely considered this but decided to limit the list to clubs that were involved in a “cheating” scandal rather than players. We didn’t make this clear during the intro but hopefully this reply helps clarify things. Thanks for the comment and we hope you enjoyed the video.
Can someone find me any information about if the Knights have ever cheated? Except when we were under the salary cap which I wouldn't even class as cheating 🤣
#4 should've been the end of that club's season, at minimum. #3 absolutely should've been the termination of that club. There just needs to be an outright disqualification from Finals for stuff like this. And how several of these franchises are allowed to still exist is beyond any scope of comprehension. And that #1: End of the franchise, all matches forfeited, the show cannot go on. You're lucky that didn't kill the NRL outright. Three minors and a Grand Final stripped, all points for the season deducted. End the franchise, have the league create a replacement, and make all the non-affected players immediate free agents.
@@masonprospero3880 The Sharks one was a genuine mistake and the club self-reported, resulting in us losing our Coach who had taken us from the scrapheap and turned us into premiership winners. Also, the tiny discrepancies by NRL salary cap standards didn't occur in our premiership year. We were also made to play the last 2 seasons $350,000 below every other club. The Sharks have nothing to answer for whatsoever.
Nearly all clubs have been caught out for salary cap infringement over it's existence... but they are minor compared to the storms amount and to the lengths at which they went to cover it up. Gold medal to Melbourne
@@masonprospero3880 the difference is the sharks owned up to it and turned themselves in. Your management and coach denied it and acted like their shit didn't stink 😂😂
The list should include the Sharks but more curiously why the Broncos and the Rosters never got a proper audit both of this clubs always do something fraudulent.
Still pisses me off they stripped us of the premierships and made us play for points and it took them 6 months to come and talk to the players to make sure the players were ok ...disgusting
