I brought the last of Saxo VTR back in 2001, brand new from the showroom and because it was a discontinued model for that year, it was cheaper than a 1 year old. Kept it for 8 years and sold it for £600 at the time. Great fun car and cheap to run. Great vid and enjoy your analysis and opinion. Perhaps take a brand like Porsche, bmw, Mercedes etc and tell us which model is performing the best in appreciation and best to buy now
If I had to pop one on the list it would be the VW Corrado VR6 + G60. If you look in the right places you can still find one for just under 5 Grand. Mint examples are fetching over 15 grand now. And even the 16v's have rapidly apprieciated. Back in 2014 you could buy a roadworthy one for 500 quid, or a grand for a good one. Now its 2500 for a rough one.
Re the Audi TT - the biggest collectable ones are likely to be the Quattro Sport version and the manual 3.2 and 1.8T BAM versions - the auto DSGs are troublesome as they age. The original concept car was a coupe, so I suspect the coupe is the one to have overall. As for the NA Mx5 - definitely! :)
I believe the 91' MR2 will be a future classic that will go up in value alot. It was the first ever mid engine Japanese car ever made, its rwd, has a alot of mod options, the look incredible etc
i own a 20vt fiat coupe, stunning car both inside and out, as for the performance its outta this world, they really are quick as.. ive just had my coupe resprayed lime green and a stage 3 turbo fitted, i never thrash the car around as i love it so much but if i ever need the power it is there for sure! id say the coupe is far more beautiful than the alfa spider though, the are the same car end of the day!
BMW e38s are starting to creep back up in value. Really nice examples are skyrocketing. A low mileage unmodified e38 just sold on BAT for $57,500 but there are plenty of decent ones out there for around 5k.
I don't care how good the EP3 is, I'll have the Fiat or the Saxo ☺ The coupe is just awesome, but it's getting to the point where you'd feel bad thrashing it. The Saxo is just pure fun.
@@CarsWithJB Bit of a hairdresser car though ☺ I can't exactly say a mid-engined Porsche is bad though! Also realised yesterday my reply notifications were all off, wondered how I'd got away with trolling Tesla fans on another video without any replies! Might go check that one...
Can’t believe how the classic market has gone! The R129, as great as they are also had the M104 engine as well as the M103, both L6 engines, while the 104 is more powerful, it’s also got an iffy head gasket. Also the roof is fully hydraulic, including the locking latches at the front which can fail spraying driver and passenger in hydraulic fluid. Finally early 129s are less rusty on the bodywork because they use solvent based paints, which can be problematic for resprays and benzes of that era often suffer rot underneath too!
Manual cars are going up and have been for some time - people are realising modern cars have the driver engagement of a whale - JDM cars are seemingly on and endless spiral north, cars like the Subaru Legacy SpecB are worth a mention, 6 speed AWD and the handling that provides, they used to be quite affordable but scarcity is driving up prices
@@CarsWithJB which falls into the “wonderfully nuts” category; can’t be a hot hatch as they put the engine where the shopping/passengers should go. Ha. Love my 182 Trophy. Great channel too.
I was thinking the Citroën Xantia activa, those are really getting rare, here in Finland I’ve seen one being sold in the timespan of little over a year. The reason I think they’ll start rising in value is mainly because of the innovative hydropneumatic suspension and active anti-roll bars which make it able to do almost any corners without leaning. to this day the Xantia activa is even more stable in heavy maneuvering than a 20 year newer porsche 911
They’re quite rare in the Uk generally Citroens are slept on. Back in the day they use to have some pretty innovative products though like you mentioned. Another great shout out is the citroen c6 which is very rare and looks gorgeous. Now all they make is rebadged Peogeots
id like to add another car to the list, one I bought 2 years ago and haven't driven it yet lol Mercedes 560 SEC, i bought it for 6000 euros, now cheapest i can find in same good condition is around 15,000 euros.
Love the z3 we had one in the rental garage I worked at the boss drove 3 series 2.8 m3. I am not a huge fan of about 5 cars within love Mercedes CLK 320 convertible my dream car and Astra and no mention to the MGF SE being a nice car and TF. fast cheap a bit like Elise..for far less cash but a lot of sports car around £500 - £3000 for all cash ranges
Defo missed the 330Ci (inc. Clubsport)... but where the Toyota MR2 at? Both MK2 and MK3! Just a little bit on Z3, 2.8 isnt ULEZ compliant. And as its zone expands I've seen the 2.8s cheaper than they should be. Enjoying the content 👍👍👍
What's everyone's thoughts on a CLK 320 w209 with the 722.6 transmission (5 speed)? Not the fastest cars in world unless you op for the 320 diesel that's turbo charged and probably get more power and torque. The plus side of this model is remapping this car will get you up to the power of 350 just with more torque being a diesel. Only issue is the 7-speed 722.9 transmission was poorly designed with a poor conductor plate which would put it limp mode and overall liability with the sensors and "complicated" computers but when it works it's a very smooth and responsive engine + gearbox. If you treat your car right and little maintenance now and then it will treat you right. Great content btw mate 100% agree with the cars! 💯
5 speed box has more issues with the conductor than the 7 it’s just that it’s easier to do the repairs on the 5 speed….but the 7 speed is a big improvement for the car and as long as it is serviced properly you should have no issues…… In terms of what model I would say the c32 is a guaranteed classic but they are already increasing….the clk 320 I reckon is too much in the mid range and not enough quicker than the 2.1d or the petrol 1.8 supercharger and would say that either of those would in better order ie less miles higher spec would be better than the 320. And if you are not planning on doing many miles in it per year you should buy a v8 clk (500/550 and I’m sure they still did the 420 on the w209 too) Other models to concider….c class coupe 320 amg, slk 3.0, w211 3.2D, w208 clk55. (I know of one locally to me for sale that is a steal at £5.5k in the condition it’s in and it’s mileage and service history) any r class you can find for under £2.5k that is in decent condition and lastly early w210 3.2d without the ecu controlled fueling. (Lorry turbo heavy duty fuel pump for around £800-1000 fitted and your at 600bhp a little bit more adjustments and over 800 is possible with no real realistic drop in reliability either 🤩🤩)
TT's are great looking There was a TT for sale in dark green vr6 with the baseball interior and it was pretty expensive (i think 10-15k) That thing was fucking beautiful And also the Mitsubishi FTO may be a future classic as well so it's worth checking out (it kinda looks like a alfa romeo spider from the rear
Do you think the Toyota Gr Yaris will go up in value I think it will as they aren’t making many of them and many road rally cars are going up in value after 20 years old
I have a 986 and it went from sitting on a trailer for about 7 years to an every day driver for about 3000. Granted I did all the maintenance myself but before I started working on it, I didn’t even spell Porsche correctly. Not to mention I am not a mechanic ( I’m a nurse) and the most I have done related to car worn is spark plugs and installing an aftermarket air intake. RU-vid can show you how to do anything
Astra SRI 200+ (260 on the road), Astra SRI XP (48) on the road - need to specify the model on the log book as people are passing off standard models with body kits on them :P
The cars featured in this video are everything I loved about cars growing up in the 90s and 2000s. Now the roads have been taken over by bloated, identical looking blob shaped cars where it's hard to tell the difference between one brand or the other.
I have 2 alfa 916 spiders, a 1 of 2 made autodelta turbo and a zoe yellow, blue edition thats going up for sale shortly, only 82k and was thinking £2999 however i might wait for the summer now 😉
Cool cars 👍 The 308 is quite underrated and the 208 is a great little car. Both underrated as they get get overshadowed by it’s competitors: fiesta st, Clio rs and focus st
@@risforracing I think because that gen of the 308 doesn’t look very nice but overall it’s a solid car. Personally I prefer the generation that came after 2013. That 308 is beautiful along with its little brother 208
My daughter has bought a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO with a hundred thousand miles full service history… she’s only 19 and I’m trying to convince her to garage it as a future classic and enjoy her for shows…it’s only the 1.6 petrol but has had a turbo upgrade and stage one so putting out 230bhp and a subtle custom ss exhaust… is this a pointless money pit in your opinion or a future classic?…. Ps…loving your realistic down to earth reviews for us near mortal car lovers👍😬
@@Beardchanics supercharged too - it’s because all the parts alone for either job go for around £4K, so if you can buy a whole MX-5 with the job done for you why not! What was my mindset with the supercharger
Considering this was 2 years ago i have had a Porsche boxster 986 for 3 years and it has not gone up at all. In fact if anything it has gone down in value
I wonder how much will be evaluated those cars in 10 years when will not possibile to drive them. In italy you can drive a 30 years old car only to go at some classic car event
Damn, I don't want the Z3 to become expensive. I was looking forward to buying one as a summer car next year, but since I don't drive yet I probably wont be able to get one 🙁
Not yet! It's the one I reviewed last year - there aren't any 4Cs available right now that I want to buy - all a bit beyond what I'm willing to pay and the wrong spec too
I think those might just about be over 5k. Probably 6-10k range comparing with rivals like the e90 335i. A mondeo st220 would be worth a mention though. Similar type rival and plenty under 5k.
great vid with good info. MY own thoughts: Z3 is ugly and hopeless. The Audi TT: which way is it going (ditto the Boxter) and the earlier ones were lethal. The Saxo, who would buy one? I drove a VTR and it was a tin can kicked gently down the street. I love Alfa's too but the Brera is better looking. MGTF160 ? Leave one for me.
Just sold my seat leon cupra r 2006 for 5500 which is what I paid for it over 5 years ago. Low mileage 2 owners including myself and unmodified, it wasn't on the market for long! Nice video I enjoyed that
The silver R129 used in this video was a late 1999 SL500 we sold last year for £24500..34k miles and two owners. Thanks JB for using our video, and nice top ten chart run down of appreciating modern classics. Br Kingdom Specialist Cars Ltd.
Alfa Spider - what an achingly beautiful car. Came within an ace of buying one recently but common sense kicked in (not the reliability, just the practicality). Good list though.
Knew the Fiat coupe and Audi TT would be on the list. I must have gone 10 years without seeing a fiat coupe and then I go and walk to a different local shop that I’ve not been to for a while and a guy near it has 4. Two blue ones, a black one and a yellow one. Last time I went there he had 2 phase one Saxo vts and a phase 2 vts (probably) too, some little investments right there. Shame the Saxos are going up to be fair, I’d love buy a rotten and swap the engine in into my 106 when I can afford to insure something with an engine bigger than two Pepsi bottles. Might just buy a cheap vtr heading towards the end of its life instead lol
Had 2 20vt, Broom Yellow and Wine Red. Horrid in the winter, useless really as the doors freeze, the boot opens and all snow of rain falls in, the electronics are crap, headlights are useless and they're now expensive. And I'd have another one tomorrow, the best car ever made, gorgeous looks and that 5cyl roar as you catch 99% of things on the road out, you forgive it for the fact it cost you £800 to change the front wishbones 😂
Can you review the mitsubishi colt please mate? Would like to know your opinion on it as I'm considering getting one. I want a first car that nobody else has and is quite rare.
Ep3 and dc5s are already worth quite abit in Australia, the R129 I feel may even have nostalgic 90s girls and thier brothers who would play with Ken's convertible car
Most of the car you added are ft in top gear eg like fiat coupe which was converted into a police car which had spike wheels Kinda sad it was scrap and never got the chance to appriated
