Wait! Okay, I'm obviously waaaaayyyyy behind on reading any modern comics, but they killed Alfred!!?? Why wasn't this a bigger deal!! Now I'm sad....R.I.P.
@@jesseduran7353 to be honest that's not even the first time Alfred died. Alfred was killed even back in 1964 smashed by a boulder saving Batman and Robin
Just to make sure we don't miss the reference, for Hawk and Dove, Hawk was "war" and Dove was "peace". So him being "at peace" kinda has a double meaning.
Very rare when a super hero stays dead. Usually its the specific character (i.e. Hal Jordan but Kyle Rayner takes up the Green Lantern mantle) or a side human character (i.e. Karen, Alfred, etc...). As always great video!
Stan Lee used to insist that Uncle Ben Parker and Bucky Barnes would never be resurrected. Now, with Stan gone, it's one out of two. Bucky's return seems to have been generally approved of by readers (I haven't read any comic he's appeared in); and thankfully, Marvel still gets that bringing back Uncle Ben would undo Peter's whole raison d'etre for becoming Spider-Man. I hope it stays that way.
The death of the Wayne's was as big a deal to Bruce as Uncle Ben to Peter. Agreed, makes too much of the characters persona to consider bringing them back. Appreciate the list
Mar-Vell was my favorite character for years. I'm still upset that Starlin killed him off. Not sure if I'd want him back though, after all this time. Great list!
Crackajack Jackson from Incredible Hulk 182 hasn't been re-animated, so far as I know. I was a rabid Marvel fan at the time this comic hit the stands, and I was so ticked off that Crackajack died in the same issue where he was introduced. He was very different from the typical Hulk supporting characters -- not a military or science person. Crackajack was basically an itinerant singer/dancer/musician, and he immediately became Hulk's friend -- when Hulk needed a friend! I thought Crackajack was way, waaaaay more interesting than the goofy yellow Canadian claw guy they brought in a coupla issues earlier. But no one else seemed to agree. That still bums me out.
I remember when Nightcrawler died. Now he is "immortal". I still bet he will die again in my lifetime. New challenge James, characters who have died the most and came back. Grundy and Deadpool shouldn't count but I'm not making the list.
Sweet green lantern in the background. I think it’d be interesting if uncle Ben was alive and aunt May died in Spider-man. I wonder how Peter’s character would evolve. Would uncle Ben figure out Peter’s Spider-Man quickly? Would Ben be sort of an Alfred to Peter? So many questions lol
The following are some characters just off the top of my head. They only return in flashbacks: (1) Junior Juniper - "Sgt. Fury & His Howling Commandos" (2) John Proudstar (Thunderbird) - "X-Men" (3) Thomas Wayne - "Batman" (4) Martha Wayne - "Batman" (5) Andrew Nolan (Ferro Lad) - "Legion of Superheroes" (6) Luornu Durgo (Triplicate Girl) - "Legion of Superheroes" (7) The Vindicators (all but ONE) - "Rick & Morty"
I think there's a pretty strong argument to be made that Junior Juniper was based on Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. -- JFK's older brother, who died piloting an experimental aircraft back in the '40s. The really spooky thing? Junior Juniper died in Sgt. Fury issue 4, which was cover-dated November, 1963. That's the month JFK was assassinated.
@@Red-Devil884 Thanks for the info. Did not know that. The reason Clairmont and Cockrum killed him initially was because his powers were similar to Wolverine. Also, I checked Wikipedia and learned he was resurrected twice prior to the Krakoa era. That's just ridiculous.
Hmm. Alexandra Dewitt? I know some people view the "fridging" as lazy character development, but Kyle has never forgotten about her or let it go. It still drives him to be who he is. And aside from that version of her in the Circle of Fire (which I don't think was really her anyway if I recall correctly) I'm pretty sure she's stayed dead. Great list btw. I had forgotten about a few of those characters.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention Gwen Stacy. I know Marvel always resurrected every character after they killed them off, but I don’t see why they didn’t bring her back.
Agree that resurrections are just lazy writing unless it's the plan all along (i.e. the death of Superman). Hard to take the big, sad funeral scenes when 80% of the attendees have been dead themselves at one time or another.
I'm going by memory so I might be wrong, but Nova (Frankie Raye) is dead, and Darkhawk (Christopher Powell) died recently. The original X-23 (renamed Talon) died. The current Laura Kinney is a clone but...so are most of the other mutants thanks to Krakoa so, yeah. Is Death's Head dead? Or Death's Head II? I don't know.
4:10 actually like, he comes back to life from that and is one of the main characters in the Robison starman run, dying on the end of the run in one of comic’s best deaths, then he became truly dead and didn’t come back. Also, jack started being Starman on that run and ended being Starman on that run, to never return, it’s very cool how they made him a complete story.
Another character that is in the sane vain as uncle Ben, Superman’s parents Jor-El and Lara Lor-vel. They usually are always on Krypton when it explodes. However we do have an AI -version of Jor-el through the crystals in Superman’s fortress.
The "greatest" Perma-dead characters: Jean Grey Ms. Marvel (Kamala - she stayed dead for two whole issues) Superman Elektra Batman (a few times) Professor X Barry Allen Hal Jordan Magneto I could go on..
Didn't know Thunderstrike was dead. Didn't know Karen Page died from Bullseye, I thought she had terminal aids or something. Bill Foster's death still stings. Mar-Vell died a second time for me when they made his character a female hologram in the movie. Is the death of the Dove a contradiction, I thought he retired in an 80's brave and the bold but could definitely be wrong.
Bringing characters back is one of the things that keeps super hero comics from evolving and growing as a medium. We should be at least on our second Spider-Man and our third Batman by now... You can always go back tell new stories with the originals but in continuity, they should all be deader than dead.
GL fidge GF. James, Brian, and other Union Jack Falsworths (along with Baron Bloods). Baron Zemo I. Ton of X-Statics. Tyler Dayspring and the Dark Riders? 😂👌
Another great episode....yea they ever bring Captain Marvel back with no cure for cancer I'll stop buying comicbooks. Some honorable mentions the original Xmen Mimic, Thunderbird, the original Hobgoblin, White Tiger, Alpha Flight's Vindicator. DC Ted Kord Blue Beetle hasn't came back has he?
I’m guessing that the new Ultimate Spider-Man’s version of Uncle Ben doesn’t count? I get he’s technically a version from a different universe but if he doesn’t count then why does Gwen Stacy?
I'm not reading comics lately so these might be wrong now but the Original Atom is dead. As well as his JSA teammate Sandman. Also OG Dr. Midnight and the second Dr. Midnight. The Second Wildcat (or is she just paralyzed?) OG Dr. Fate and his wife (Also Dr. Fate), Johnny Thunder, Johnny Quick, and that's all I can think off at this moment.
Just to know but isn't the original Gwen Stacy still dead? Yeah they brought her back with clones or with multiversal variants but the original one shouldn't be alive if i remember correctly.
Retcons were bad enough but the return of Jean Grey convinced me lazy editorial will always pull the rebirth trigger and that killed Marvel/DC for me. Even if DC created a new Vertigo- like sub label, they would have to assure readers no mainstream stunts would ever be used! Getting back to this video subject: I can only say.... Fat çhance on how long these last!
Well i'm kinda hoping one day they would resurrect the original Captain Marvel. I love the original Mar-Vell but since his death, i stop reading any new captain marvel story. I never liked the new captain marvel (carol denvers) and i've never even watch the captain marvel movie even tho it's been out for few years now.
Lt Jim Corrigan the Spectre? Kinda? The chemist in smgf that copied Superman's power that killed him. Who else? Damn memory lapse. Great info. Love your channel.
You should do a Characters Who Stayed Dead in the Valiant Universe. LOL. You'd be there all day. Now correct me if I am wrong. Gwen Stacy is dead, is she not? I mean yes, there is an Ultimate Gwen Stacy and there is Spider-Gwen, whom is from an alternate reality of the Spider-Verse if I am not mistaken, and then there was the infamous clone Gwen as well....But did she ever *really* come back? Because if you count the alternate universe Gwens, then you have to strike Ben from the list because I recall Ben Parker was the Spider of Marvel Universe 001. I don't see anything online about Gwen really coming back, but I could be wrong. I just find it hard to read any Spidey stories past the year 2000....so I am a little behind. :D
I thought Karen page died of an overdose after she sold daredevil's secret identity 🤔 what about the phoenix force as Jean grey. Thunderstruck was partially resurrected in the perez avengers series.
Anything is possible, especially with comic characters, never say never! At any time they deem it necessary to bring someone back, they will find a way to do it!
I think all Spidey fans would be LIVID if they brought Uncle Ben back! But I agree with you on a lot of the list in that staying dead is the best bet for majority of the characters!
