I kinda dispute that negative reviews somehow “confirm” it was never meant to be released. Everyone making the film aside from Corman and Eichinger thought it would get at least a small theatrical release, then live on in home video and cable TV. The movie is unavoidably cheap and flawed, but it was made by people who gave it all they could. The film elements are stored at the AMPAS film archive with the elements of many other Corman films, so hopefully Constantin and Marvel can eventually give this a proper, remastered release.

@@lexx2847 I remember getting excited when the trailer showed up on the VHS release of the movie "Spaced Invaders".

It is not a bad business decision. It saves an incredible amount of money when a movie is written off as a loss and never released. It is a very wise business decision in most cases. The fans aren't the ones losing millions by releasing it. The studio is.

It's actually getting a release!

There was a woefully sensationalistic article from World of Reel that called the movie “unreleasable”, which was not only incorrect, but irresponsible. The issue is that the financiers want a wider theatrical release than a film of its ilk is likely to get at present. They’re opposing selling the film to a streamer because they won’t get an immediate return on their investment. I’m sure it’ll get resolved eventually.

@@mrgraham5521 the studio planned to shelve it for a $30 million tax write-off. This means that when filing taxes, the company reports the film as having zero worth, and therefore it isn’t taxed

It's an AI narrator. It hasn't learned how to pronounce certain words. You also get them treating "Warner Brothers. Discover" as the end of one sentence and the start of another because of the period in the middle.

The voiceover, at least, is clearly text-to-speech. Twice it says “ . . . Warner Brothers. Discovery . . . “ as if “discovery” is the start of a new sentence, not recognizing that it’s part of the company’s new name: Warner Bros. Discovery. A human voiceover artist would have realized that inflection made no sense.

I noticed this too. So weird.

It was never completed. It was scrapped and re-worked into X-Men: First Class. The screenwriter for Magneto got a credit for X-Men: First Class

Having an IMDB page doesn’t necessarily mean a film has been made, or is going to be made. Plenty of movies that were never made (as well as even more movies in development) have IMDB listings. Normally they get deleted if the film doesn’t ultimately go to production.

@@radrobd123More that it was never shot in the first place. Yes it was in development, but it never started production.

There was a telemovie in the early nineties covering some of the same story. It started a young Hugh Grant as Richard Neville. There are clips of it on RU-vid. Based on what I’ve read, at least two of the people depicted in Hippie Hippie Shake were very unhappy about their depiction in the film. I wouldn’t be surprised if legal threats had been made.

why was it wrong?

They cant release it for 2 reasons. They deleted all copies of it. Also they got an insurance pay out for not releasing it. Basically when they started production. They took an insurance, that if the film never got released they would recieve a pay out instead. The main condition of the pay out was the film never gets released. So WBD deleted all copies to make sure this happened.

I don't think he'll do much better. Too much trying to be like the MCU...which isn't doing too good in recent years. I think fans are tired with the multiverse. DC Else world will probably be more successful.

The DCEU failed because unlike the mcu it didn't have a clear and consistant plan and overall vision.

@@rocoe9019 Marvel learned their lesson on it. The next deal meant any future Fantastic 4 films had to get a cinema release. Its why 20th Century Fox had to release the 2015 Fantastic Four film.
