people don't relize just because a player became a superstar after they were traded doesn't mean they would be come a super star if they hadn't been traded. for example James harden probably wouldn't have become a super star if he stayed in okc. you know why ? because he wouldn't get the ball as much like he does in Houston because west brook and kd would need it to. so harden probably wouldn't be such a good player and shooter
@thatsthatbull7515
@thatsthatbull7515 8 лет назад
That is partially true but at the same time James Harden didn't make most of his improvements during that first season with Houston (His first game with them he almost dropped 40) so imo he would've been just as great with the Thunder but with lowered numbers due to having other superstars with him. Plus he won 6Man OTY and was key to their playoff run in 2012, it made little sense to break up the team
@JuwanDavis11
@JuwanDavis11 8 лет назад
James Harden would have the rep of a Klay Thompson if he stayed in OKC, not a first option scorer on his current teaqm, but every one and their momma knows that he could average over 25 as a first option on damn near any other team.

11:00 I'd have to disagree. It was a franchise crippling mistake. Because it turned them from a perennial finals team, to a 2nd/3rd round team that has 'just enough' to not get it done, till their stars grow tired of coming up short and leaving. The Spurs HAD their 2nd resurgence because of that trade. Remember the Thunder had FINALLY broken through the Spurs.. then OKC trades Harden and the Spurs get a 2nd wind, and go to the finals those years OKC should have. The Thunder WERE ultimately the big losers here. Not only did they break up a potential dynasty, they chose Kendrick Perkins over James Harden. They lost their depth and the final piece that made them a finals contender. When you think about that if the Thunder hadn't been cheap they'd have had a starting lineup of Russell Westbrook James Harden Kevin Durant Serge Ibaka And Jeff Green as a 6th man... Because of that trade of Harden, they prolongued their inevitable breakup as they were never going to be a "Finals" Contender again and remained 'one turned ankle' away from barely being a 2nd round team > Add onto that how they had to run Westbrook AND Durant into the ground due to their lack of depth which eventually lead to Durant's injury problems, and THEN the fact they rushed him back because they desperately needed him, and he wound up getting injured again and missing that season. That kind of thing forced Durant to come to grips with his basketball mortality and realize he was about to enter the 2nd half of his career. Then their lack of ability to constantly get it done, the honest truth is, had they kept Harden, they'd have 2-3 rings together, without Harden they were just prolonging the inevitable, which was Durant leaving. Now because of that decision, Durant left, they've traded Ibaka for Illyasova and Oladipo... and Westbrook is likely leaving after next season to go to a team that actually has a chance to win something. So the Thunder are the losers of the trade, as that decision to save money, not only cost them a dynasty, but will essentially cost them their entire core. GREAT video though!
@NickSmithNBA
@NickSmithNBA 8 лет назад
I totally agree with you... They have rebounded pretty nicely though. I mean when most teams loose a player of Hardens caliber it wrecks the entire team but they haven't done all that bad without him. But yeah I totally agree with what you said. Imagine if they kept the squad together though 🔥🔥
@AgsSpec123
@AgsSpec123 8 лет назад
But would they be able to afford this lineup?
@carrastealth
@carrastealth 8 лет назад
Nick Smith Oh I could.. the small ball era evolution could have started with them. Imagine Russell Westbrook James Harden Kevin Durant Serge Ibaka 6th Man: Jeff Green And that Golden State small ball destroy all worlds lineup? OKC could have had that too Russell Westbrook James Harden Jeff Green Kevin Durant Serge Ibaka And then with the gigantic cap jump they could have had room to bring in a big time free agent if they wanted to. Just think about all the rings left on the table because OKC was cheap and got rid of James Harden and Jeff Green for selective peanuts. They could have been the "warriors" before Warriors. But whereas the Warriors kept their core and believed in the likes of Draymond and Curry even after the injuries(though they short changed the contract) they reap the benefits now, while OKC suffers because of it. Interesting story, Golden State almost didn't keep Steph Curry. Early on, they almost traded him to Milwaukee. But Milwaukee said no, because they thought Brandon Jennings was better, and wanted Monta Ellis instead. So it turns out Monta went to Milwaukee, and Golden State got Bogut from them and went on to get what Klay Thompson became. While Jennings and Monta in Milwaukee.....yeah.. Amazing how close the Warriors came to making a "OKC Thunder" level mistake. That one however, probably deserves to be on a "Crazy NBA Trades that almost happened." list ^_^
@carrastealth
@carrastealth 8 лет назад
AgsSpec123 Yes. It just would have cost them an hefty luxury tax fine. But they could have lessened the blow simply by amnestying Perkins. But.. they opted not to. Had they amnestied Perkins, they could have given Harden as high as the max he could receive. So ultimately the Thunder didn't keep James Harden, because they refused to amnesty Kendrick Perkins...when you say it like that it makes this face (>_

Andrew Wiggins for Kevin love has too be up there because Kevin went from 25.9 ppg too 10.5 ppg and averaged 5.5 ppg inthe finals and Wiggins averages over 18 ppg so sounds like a bust of a trade if you ask me
@dadonutparadise7626
@dadonutparadise7626 8 лет назад
you think wiggins would average 18ppg in cleveland? with that logic a team with steph curry, kevin durant, lebron james, james harden, and demarcus cousins would average 139.5 ppg with just the starting lineup
@legendofspencer793
@legendofspencer793 8 лет назад
+DaDonut paradise no but he would def average more than what Kevin love does and that's a huge drop off from Kevin 28 PPG to only about 12, Wiggins still has time to improve as well cause by the time LeBron declines Wiggins will be a good SF

No he's right they didn't have the cap space for him and there was way too much space to clear up to resign him, and he shot down every offer for an extension they gave him so they had to trade him. Also James Harden wanted to be the superstar of a team and not play behind Westbrook and Durant, so he would have left in the offseason anyways.

People wonder why Harden was traded and can't do 15 minutes of research... SALARY CAPS!!!!!! At the time OKC had 4 incredible players with tonnes of potential (Westbrook, Durant [aka the snake], Ibaka and Harden). OKC could only keep 3 in their situation. Durant was already an all-star caliber player, Westbrook was the 2nd option and was a great point guard that could take over when Durant couldn't, and then there was Ibaka and Harden. At the time, both were about equal as far as talent goes, one a defensive big man keeping the ball out of the paint, and the other, a great 6th man shooting guard off the bench to carry the load. OKC needed a true big man more than another scorer so they kept Ibaka and traded Harden. A few years down the line, Durant became the least respected player in the NBA and Ibaka was traded into Victor Oladipo and a 1st round pick, Domantas Sabonis, which was then traded for Paul George. So, Ibaka wasn't a huge bust to keep, but still wasn't as great as what Harden is now. The only catch is that Harden may not have developed in the same way in OKC with 2 other scoring options ahead of him.

smh this video made me realize just how much the Thunder have messed up. just thinking about the "what-if" scenarios had they decided to give Harden the max, makes me legitimately sad for the organization. sure, as of now they have Westbrook and other franchise pieces such as Oladipo and Adams, but if Westbrook leaves the team goes from potential dynasty to 2018 lottery pick winners. the worst trade is the Brooklyn trade if Brown, and the Celtics future draft picks become good. as of now it's the Harden trade, the Thunder would most likely of won a championship if Harden never got traded. Adams wasn't amazing the few years Durant was there and Lamb got dumped to Charlotte eventually. If Adams improves then the trade won't be as bad, but Durant might still be in OKC if it didn't go down. Not to mention, Houston will most likely not achieve a playoff berth unless Harden goes off.

Clippers just messed up. They could've had Blake griffin, CP3 and kyrie as a big 3

Actually Pau's first season with the Lakers was the 2007-08 season when the Lakers made it to the finals but lost.

I think that this is a great list, the Isaiah Thomas one is not the number 1, I mean he wasn't an established star yet when they did that, however I think the Utah Jazz and Brooklyn Trade (back when they were still in New Jersey) involving Deron Williams should definitely be on here, it is insane because Deron never panned out in New Jersey, or anywhere else since Utah and the Jazz got Devin Harris (who did well in Utah) Derrick Favors (who is still a great player for this team) and picks from it, ones that they used to draft good players

what about the massive 13 player deal in 2005 that sent Jason Williams to the heat and Eddie Jones to the grizzlies? Biggest trade in NBA history

Could the Thunder really keep/sign James Harden? And the way he behaves right now do you really think 2 super egos could survive on one team? In the end you could argue they traded nothing into Steven Adams. In a more positive view they traded a possible 2013 championship for Steven Adams. But they still had to get past the Spurs and Heat. Apart from that, the Nets trade worked out ok because the arena was full and Jerseys were sold at the beginning of a new era of the team. They needed to get big names on the team not good players. Nets are now a glamour team too. Doesn't matter if they are good or not. Money in the bank.

Im being unbiased i think Westbrook Should be traded. They will try to rebuild around a all around player not a athletic and defensive player(WestBrook)

Letting go of James harden was a good thing for OKC IMO. He might be great offensively but his defence is nonexistent and would end up costing OKC more games as well as making durant n Westbrook less dominant

the Suns trade they could have flipped and in the future Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight possibly for a bigger Contender may be a first-round pick

I wouldn't say the Pistons Hawks is a bad trade, yea I would say Rasheed is better than josh smith but not by much. The Pistons had Chauncey billups, Richard Hamilton, Ben Wallace so the team was good without Rasheed and josh smith was a pretty good player so that's not bad trade really

The Nuggets could be the winner out of the Carmelo to the Knicks deal if the Nuggets suck (which they will) then get a lottery pick in 2016 which is a loaded draft class

where is the Deron Williams trade? (D-WIll for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, and picks). It was a crazy trade when it happened as there were no trade rumors when it happened and then the trade struck

I hate this for the nets their just a city who want to win but Billy King messed up their team I think they did ok with what they had by trading for picks but I don't think they had no first rounders hopefully they have a first rounders for 2021 or 2022 because that's when ill come in the league an obvious selection

false info about Harden. he didn't want to extend with thunder as frankly he knew and was better scorer than Westbrook. (when i watched him back in the thunder days i always wonder why Westbrook and not him as a starter). anyway hardem wanted to be 1st choice so he moved on. after this misinformation I'm dropping from this channel

If you ask James Harden he'll tell you it was the best thing that ever happened to him. Had he stayed in OKC he wouldn't have ever developed into the player he is today because he never would have been given the chance to be the main man (he would have been behind KD and Westbrook). So, no, the Thunder didn't really break up a dynasty when they traded him.

James harden the thunder were never able to make it back to the finals since. But on the other hand if James harden wasn't traded he wouldn't of become the star he is today until recently when KD left. But KD probably wouldn't of left and it would have been Russell Westbrook to leave in the off season because he would've wanted to branch out to be a bigger star may have joined kobe or Anthony Davis in to get kobe one more an make himself a bigger star after kobe retires, and say that he can still be great by himself. But he might join AD if he wants to compete as a shaq kobe Duo

That Brooklyn Boston trade was idiotic if nets kept those picks they would definitely be better than what they are now. Now their just making Boston(a playoff team) even better than they are
