I think the Yoshi's island ad was a reference to a sequence from Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life". I'm not sure why they'd reference an adult surrealist comedy film when advertising a game meant for children, but... they did.
6:19 And that's why Fire emblem nearly went the way of Metroid and F-Zero. As for the one with the GB micro, there was one for the Pocket where A guy ignores his rather provocatively dressed wife/Girlfriend clearly coming on to him... Nintendo was weird
There was a similar ad to that second one that got pulled from magazines - a woman tied to a bed, looking irritated, because her guy is sitting in a chair nearby playing Game Boy(?) instead. Some pearl-clutchers assumed she had been forced into something non-consentual, rather than the obvious situation of her boyfriend/husband taking advantage of her kink to keep her away while he played video games.
S.R. Hunt It just scares me. The song "We are Nintendo" creepies me really much though. Still NES has got great nostalgic commercial, but absolutely not that one in my opinion.
My favorite crazy Nintendo commercials game around the time of the N64. I particularly remember a set of commercials where the camera is focused on just this kid who's getting lectured by his dad, usually about how important family is, and so on. The twist comes when the camera rotates around to reveal that the kid's dad and presumably grandpa, are either dressed up like women, or as a cowboy and horse. And maybe they said something about "don't tell your mother, and we'll buy you a Nintendo." I need to see if I can find it on RU-vid again. XD
The strangest ad to promote a Smash game. But I also loved the one for Smash 4 where this muscle man turns into Donkey Kong because he didn't want to lend his seat to a girl in a bus, so then she beats him in Smash Bros. and sits on his seat.
victikirby15 There's actually one where some kid gets rushed to the ER because he's expanded like a balloon from playing "too much Kirby". Let's just be glad this kind of thing never happens in real life...
Does anybody remember a Pokemon commercial where like a bunch of Pokemon were standing around and then they all got sucked up into an animated vacuum cleaner? I remember it so clearly from when I was a kid but can't find it anywhere.
I remember most of these. But I love how the Yoshi's Island ad rips off that Monty Python sketch, down to the tiny last morsel being "the snack that burst the man's stomach."
But the exploding man commercial kinda makes sense. This was the era of Ren and Stimpy and AHH! Real monsters. Those were pretty gross shows, but I loved them so much!
Id say the n64 era has my fav commericials, like Smash and Banjo-Tooie. Even Mario 64 had a good commerical (like the one with the kid running around with mario and the got milk one.
What about the commercial in 1993 for the original Star Fox? It featured a guy who puts on a space suit and then pulls down his visor and plays the game, complete with Michael Bay rapid-fire shots, rapidly-flashing lights, and ends with the guy transforming into a fox (which they reveal by pulling up the visor at the end).
My favorite nintendo commercial would have to be the smash 64 one where Mario, Donkey kong, Yoshi, and pikachu are taking a stroll then proceed to beat each other up for reason. Best way to sell a fighting game.
The man over eating and blowing up is a skit from Monty Python's The meaning of Life. I don't know why Nintendo ripped off a skit from a movie most kids at the time would have probably never seen to sell a Yoshi game, but that's where it comes from
Oh my gosh the Pokemon bus! I'm sure I've seen it before but I do not remember them being crushed?! :O and wait, the Mario Kart DS... I've seen that so many times and just noticed that the "Italian" guy's pasta is just floating???
That Yoshi Island commercial is a reference to the infamous “The Autumn Years” segment from Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life. A segment that Quentin Tarantino said was the only film segment that ever disturbed him.
You dun goofed not including the insanity of Golden Suns commercial.Golden Sun ws advertised by an orchestra preforming for an audience of skeletons until the Gargoyles begin attacking and the band fights them off with their instruments. After that the chandelier transforms into a dragon and the conductor blasts it with lightning and pulls a crystal rose from its shattered remains.None of this had literally anything to do with Golden Sun of course. The best part though is that someone on the dev team realised how amazing this ad was, cause like 10 years later the glass dragon was included as a secret summon in Dark Dawn!
Hey, JWittz. I seen some comments who seen more weird Nintendo commercials... Part 2? (For Bonus, add our unfortunate, yet very "memorable" EarthBound Commercial. It would be a treat for some EarthBound Goodness.)
also: the old Dr Mario ads Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, where Wario tries to hypnotize viewers into buying the game & being greedy DS's "Touching is good" slogan ads.... that Japanese ad for A Link to the Past with the epic dance number o_O
1: The add for Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island reminds me of The Meaning of Life and makes me wonder: what if they made a follow up were the guy that exploded got reincarnated as a fish inside of an aquarium like from and in the certain restaurant? 2: When it comes to 5:49 to 5:53 it is: I recommend to read about the actual Goth's and the alphabet and such. Not only that but just 'cause someone may look like he she it or whatever comes from the subculture does not really make a perfect statement about that being true. Example: one may look like a fan of Metal (including: wearing a Metal band shirt) but knows pretty much nothing about it and makes pop music instead. P.S did you know emo is actually a Latin word that means I buy? P.SS Hello.
You know that one Pokémon figurine board game you did a video on. Nintendo is bringing it back as a mobile game called Pokémon Duel. Look at Gamexplain's channel right now
there was a commercial for a Kirby game where people were in a police station being asked questions. and they kept referring to Kirby as a pink marshmallow. which game was that for?
Those were actual voice actors. I forgot where I read it, but there was a famous Australian voice actor in that commercial. You mean you want the technology used to make their voices sound like that.
