my first travelling adventure was to Malaysia I loved everything about it. The people are incredibly proud of their country and so they should be. I can't wait to take my family

iAwareNow. Not surprising if it comes from one nasty Indonesian like you who are always provoking Malaysia like as though you know everything about us. Who the hell do you think you are making wild accusations. Much jealous ya cos your country is not listed. We have no hatred whatsoever against you guys we don't deserve such rude comment from you. Malaysia is a Commonwealth country n we always have a sentimental attachment with Great Britain, go to London, it's like a second home to us. Shame on you!!!

Why do you people have to be like that? Of course, I am aware that those countries do not live under the same conditions as we do, to say the least, but I didn't mean to insult anyone or sth! calm down!

I actually think Korea would be a great place to go as a first-time traveler. There's a culture shock, but it's super safe with crazy amazing infrastructure, tons of wifi, and tons of English signs. If you feel nervous, there are tons of cute cafes where you can lie low for a bit and feel at home

Hi Aly, thank you so much for highlighting that the UK is not just London! I'm Portuguese living in the UK for almost 5 years and can definitely say that there's SO many amazing places to see - some of the places I've been and strongly recommend: Edinburgh, Pembrokeshire (Wales), Strafford-upon-Avon, Cornwall (

My first time out of the country I'm from (USA) was to Belize. It is an amazingly easy place to navigate as an English speaker because English is actually the official language. Everyone speaks both English and Spanish! Aside from that, the Belizean dollar is equivalent to exactly $.50 USD. There's so much to see and the people are so friendly and laid back.

I would also put Ireland down as a great first time travel destination. A vast array of sites to see. It has good public transport but it is kind of expensive but can be done on a budget. I would highly recommend it.

I agree with the chaos in Manila Looool. I suggest going to Makati City it's so much better and safer. Just an hour near Manila. Like thirty minutes from the airport. Once outside the city it will be good like Palawan, Boracay and many more. In the Philippines you can even ask the vendors or kids for directions. Everyone speaks English.

I just got back from a trip in Europe and went to Turkey, Greece, Italy, Germany, France, England and Spain. Out of all of the places we went to I was expecting Istanbul, Turkey to have a huge language barrier, but honestly, it ended up being Paris, France. The French don't like speaking English, and while a lot did (hostel staff, Disneyland...) I found people in positions that I expected to have a okay level of English to barely speak it, such as train staff/information desk staff! Anyway, my first trip apart from Aussie (many times as a kid as I'm from NZ) was to California, USA - very easy for a first time traveler!

Amy Earle we hated France because they were so rude. I tried to speak French and they were jerks because my French wasn't good enough. So we tried English and they were still mean. This went on our entire vacation. I was thinking how is Paris a tourist city and nobody speaks English?🙄
@julielgn9936
@julielgn9936 7 лет назад
DearJRenae I'm french and indeed, most of us don't speak english at all I mean we are so bad at it it's crazy, even though of course some can speak it very well. However I'm surprised about the rude thing. Did you go to Paris ?Some Parisians tend to be a bit rude indeed so if you're looking for a more friendly town you should try Bordeaux :)
@VelmaTheID
@VelmaTheID 5 лет назад
I found Parisians (in the tourists/restaurant industry) unwilling to speak French with me. They seem to dislike hearing non-natives speak what they call “textbook French.” They would hear my American accent and just speak English...bummer...

Singapore would be also nice for beginners to get a slight understanding what Asia is like. Visiting China Town, Little India, Arabic area etc. Getting around Singapore is super easy. My first travel destination was Israel. Massive culture shock partly because we were staying at the strict orthodox Jews family and you had to follow all the Kosher rules (not mixing milk and meat in your meals for example), not to use electricity on Saturdays, cover up your body when it's insanely hot etc. But it's really easy to get around the country, lots of things to see and most of the people speak English. As an option for the first time travellers.

Sonchik007 I don't know any recipes that mux milk with meat lol
@Sonchik007
@Sonchik007 7 лет назад
So, let me try to explain. It cannot be combined in one meal. So... if you are eating burger where milk was used for the bread recipe, plus there is meat. Or, you have spaghetti bolognieze and after it you have pancakes, which have milk in it. Or you had a meal with meat and then decided to drink milk tea. So all of it are perfect examples. But it is only happens if you are in orthodox part. In Tel Aviv, for example, you don't need to worry about it. But Macdonalds is kosher there, so the taste will be completely different.

As an American, I would say the exact same thing about New York City and California that you said about London. So many foreigners have only ever been to those two places and they are missing out on so many cool cities. D.C., Miami, Houston, Savannah, Boston, the entire state of Vermont, national parks in Wyoming, Utah, Montana, South Dakota etc. There is so many better things to see in the United States than the gray buildings of New York City... trust me.

From A to Z as in all the steps like how to get a passport, how to get a visa, what kind of visa to get. What flights and how to book it, what kinds f things you can not take with you to other countries. What things you shouldn't bother taking with you. What clothing to pack. You see where I'm going with this lol kind of travel for dummies lol.

I guess that is from your own personal experience. I would add UAE, Jordan & Lebanon. English is easily spoken everywhere, tourism is their major contribution to their economy, good infrastructure, different landscapes across the areas, and very "easy to accommodate" kinda culture. tho it could be a bit expensive.

My first solo travel was to do Summer Camp in USA. I did this because of the element of solo travel but also being guaranteed a job and environment were u can't not make friends! Also, you work before you travel so it's such a good set up to ease in to independent travelling and has given me so much confidence :-) If u have the skills do a summer camp.. it's more than just working with kids too !! I highly recommend to visit China since you are an experienced traveller. China Mainland is the Central Far East, China adapted a little of each culture from other Asian countries. There are many changes going on everyday in China, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Most importantly, it’s very safe to travel in China. I’m sure you met many Chinese in your trips but you will see the “real Chinese” and experience differently.

In the Nordic countries, basically everyone speaks English fluently, and a lot of the times they don't even have an accent (especially Sweden). And there's no culture shock (I think) and the transportation system is great! The capitals are not that big but still have a lot of museums and stuff like that. If you want more "adventures", there's a lot of beautiful nature, mountains, Nordic lights and even volcanos (in Iceland) It's a bit expensive, especially in Norway, but it's not too bad.

Singapore is a Mega City within a very small country, its like going to Tokyo but with less personality and thats it, sure there are a few touristy attractions like Universal Studios and Gardens by the Bay, but aside from that.. Marina Bay Sands? Clarke Quay? Sentosa? meh. honestly most people come there to work since Singapore employees earn the most compared to other countries in South East Asia. shopping is expensive! food, aside from not being that good is also expensive! so why would tourists go there? specially global backpackers on a budget. if I was looking to spend more in Asia Id rather go to Seoul or Tokyo, even HK!

My first place I travelled to was Norway. Fantastic country with a beautiful landscape and nice and clean cities. Almost everybody could understand and speak english, so no language problems here. And the people were really helpful too. Public transport is quite good with busses, but a bit more expensive. So is the beer. They have a high tax on alcohol. But all in all I really loved it there and it got me into wanting to travel a lot more. :)

Really great list! I think other places that are the big cities of glitz and glam - Dubai (yes I know there is a whole other side to the UOI outside of Dubai), Singapore and Hong Kong but yeah not too much culture shock compared to many places. Each successful rich global city with different vibes (HK is EASILY my fave of the three though). TAIWAN is also good though not a lot of English out in the countryside and less English compared to many of these places. Very warm people though and very developed!

I'd add Seoul to a first time trip to Asia. It's still pretty cheap and has a great nightlife/expat scene so you can make friends easily. Plus its really modernised so if you're looking for more of a city vibe it's the perfect place to stay for a week or two. Plus the city NEVER sleeps!! 😀

My first trip was to India. I lost paper, rock, scissors after a bottle of vodka 😂 first solo trip was Argentina - Buenos Aires is FAB for first time solo so long as you don’t mind a language barrier! Aaaaand I am about to go to Malaysia. So excited! X

You have to be 25 to rent transport in the USA, it's definitely something to keep in mind! It's definitely on my bucket list though! Also agree that everyone should visit the UK at least once 😊

I'm from the Philippines and I agree with what you said about going in the PH. It's true that it's getting better now though with scams in the airport. A total nature adventure if you go in the Philippines.

If you go to the Phils for the first time, if you need to stop over to Manila, I suggest dont book your hotel to old Manila instead book your hotel somewhere in Makati, Bonifacio Global City, or on new Manila bay area MOA area.Then go to Palawan, Cebu,Bohol Davao etc.Just avoid some areas in Mindanao like Sulu or Basilan.With present administration, its more safer to travel in the Phils.

1st place I travelled without family was Hong Kong. It's familiar enough to not be completely shocking but gives you the option to go fairly exotic. My friend referred to it as "Asia For Dummies". I didn't find it particularly expensive either?

The question is difficult to answer without knowing where a person come from. It's pretty obvious that for a Frenchman (like myself), and especially if you don't speak a foreign language, the most accessible places will be Wallonia/Brussels in Belgium or French speaking Switzerland. For Germans, it will be Austria. Language is a huge part of the accessibility factor. Also, some countries are incredibly diverse and will have very accessible parts in them and more difficult ones. For instance, in Indonesia, for inexperienced travelers, Bali and Lombok are perfect destinations in the developing world because there are a lot of tourists there. Sumatra and Borneo, less so. Hell, there are even some places in Indonesia that could be dangerous (such as Aceh). On the whole, I would have to agree with most countries on the list though Chile and Argentina are also pretty doable destinations, even for someone with no traveling experience and so are Morocco and Tunisia. But I think the perfect destination for first time travelers will nearly always be the country right next to where you live.

She's right about the best way to travel the US. Rent a camper or even just a car and split it with friends. Try to stick to the Midwest states (between the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains) since the coasts and a lot of the Southern US is more expensive. The Midwest has way more sights to see anyway. Don't fall into the tourist traps of New York or California, they're cool but if you're someone who wants to see wild American beauty then stay between the mountains. A lot of those places have cheap motels and bed and breakfasts and are starved for tourists.
