Golden rule: If it is dry, freeze dried, frozen, vacuum sealed, pickled in salt or vinegar or preserved in alcool, go for it! Otherwise: no go. Also, expired seafood and rye bread (or rye in general) can kill you.
Very true, even the CDC says a lot of foods in those states are perfectly fine past expiration dates unless you can visibly see or smell they're danger (mold and stuff). They are literally made with preservatives in mind, so just go for it! No need to waste it
There is an MRE channel that would prove otherwise, BUT you have to be very careful and know what you are looking and smelling for. The guy has had some really old MREs even from the World Wars.
Steve1985 eats expired food all the time! Expiration dates are for store rotation . Dried food can last forever. It's the fresh stuff that goes moldy...yuck!
This is why we love our Dancing Bacons... the randomness of it all. I loved how the ** SPOILER ALERT** box that fell off the table at the beginning happened to be the box with the MOST EXPIRED cabbage I have ever seen, just to reiterate it's expired status... So glad only a small amount was consumed of that one, or this could of been the last time this bacon danced.... :-)
From what I was told the "best before" or "expiration date" of a food item is just for the stores to know when to take the items off the shelves. It's just the "shelf life date" and normally doesn't affect the food itself. Still, be a little bit careful with "expired" items cuz you never know what could end up making you sick. Keep up the incredible vids and stay happy and healthy!
Some items expiration dates are a lot more estrict than others, so keep in mind that two or three days of fridge is not the same for chicken than for eggs
From what I've learned is that expiration dates are for freshly made items, think breads, instant porridge(in the video), milk etc. And best before is mostly for dried and canned items, best before indicating that a food item tastes best at a certain time frame and is still consumable after some time but may not taste as good. I got sent boxes of dry instant potato flakes during the pandemic in 2020. The best before is 2021 but I can still use them no problem no change in color or consistency as long as the bags aren't tampered with.
Developed countries have specific regulations for wordings. "Best before" means something different than "expiry date" means something different than "to be used before..."
Wow, you have an iron stomach to try this; I salute you! For the ones that were still good, gotta admit that the processing they went through was really good if they lasted as well as they did for that long!
@@felonosrs this is true, but I'm too scared to try eating expired food as it's whole, maybe just tasting a little if I feel so bad and I wanted to try it. stomach problem while sounds so basic can really ruin your day.... even days I don't get sick too much but stomach problem caused by food that's like my woe
Canned goods can be good for 2-5 years past date, dry goods can be good for up to 10 years past date, there's no iron stomach involved, the only thing a date on a package means is best by, meaning that's when the manufacturers will still stand by quality, not when it goes bad, the only food that have an actual expiration date are fresh foods, and even those have wiggle room, like milk that goes bad before the date it says, or after, sealed yogurt can be good a month after the date because it's already aged
I enjoyed how the MAX END one yeeted itself right off the table when a little gust came along. Also, your oven mitts are way cool. Most instant noodles I've forgotten were not very good after 6 months past expiry.
How many noodles packs have you eaten past the 6 month expired date? Those types of foods should still be good a year later, there's nothing really in them to go bad.
I've worked at a store for years now and can tell you that a decent amount of these aren't actually expired. Unless it says "E" or "expiration" The date listed is usually the 'best by date'. The items without that will still be fine a good 6-8 months after the date listed.
@@halfofmg394 just something I picked up while working. And also if a drink or something doesn't have an expiration date and instead has a series of numbers and letter. You can Google the companies code they use for expiration dates and figure it out that way.
The usual culprits of expiration are any seafood or dairy base. The key for every other instant food is to not let them get wet, but that is a big issue in tropical climates where humidity can kind of do this.
in today's episode, Dancing Bacons chooses to play with death by food poisoning glad to see that most of these foods were instant noodles, definitely very creative content
Happy to say I now have my husband addicted to your content as well. We love you two ❤ Keep up the awesome work and good luck with the aftermath of this one LOL
The dried and dehydrated foods are typically going to be completely fine, but the wet foods or any foods with any moisture do make me worry a bit. If you have to eat it anyway, just make sure to boil it if you can.
@@Weeping-Angel easiest sample for seafood is histamine and ciguatoxin. histamine converted from seafood amino acid but with boiling histamine should be decreased, ciguatoxin is from fish-borne illness which doesnt destroyed from cooking
@@Weeping-Angel but if we are talking about toxin from spoiled seafood. there are various of them, that it would be not worth it to try eating old seafood you forgot unfrozen. . i learned that some toxins doesnt disappear from heat so i wont try eating old seafoods
I've eaten a CR1M mre that was expired about 3 or 4 years. Food that's expired can still last some time. I've even had a jar of mayo that wasn't touched for years and it held up great.
I had a container of cottage cheese(us)that had been hidden in back of the fridge. It was 4 months out of date. We were going to toss it but since it was still sealed we decided to open it and see what it looked like. It looked fine and smelled fine then I got brave and tasted it. It was absolutely fine. I decided that we would just eat it. We were fine. I think it had a richer taste but I buy the highest fat content cottage cheese. My daughter tasted it and thought it was fine too. I do think that sometimes things last much longer than the food industries would like us to know.
I don't even know how I'm still going...multiple times when I was a kid I ate spoil rice reheated. And have still done so in the past month. Never really considered the possible casualties until resent research.
@@blueraineee true. So true. I've also eaten those little triangles of laughing cow cheese 6 months after the date lol but it was in fridge kept cold and dark and it tasted great. I have 2 small wheels of President brie (I got 6 at Christmas for $1.50 each😳close dated) Left in my dairy drawer lol. Cheese, as long as its not super moldy just gets better and better as it ages. But I do have to watch it. I'm allergic to several molds. Especially penicillin molds. I cant have any of the blue cheeses and certain salami/salumi that is penicillin cured. Heck my mother in law set off a huge reaction by kissing my cheek a few years ago. She forgot my penicillin allergy and had been on a big dose due to her immune issues. I knew exactly what was up with in minutes got my epi out But luckily (so far) the penicillin mold on brie doesn't set me off. Knock on wood lol
The worst food i had in my life was an instant lamen my aunt gave me. the smell seemed normal, but when i had the first bite.... i felt like i was eating the dust of an expired dry cockroach (no, never had one. but it's the best way to express what i ate) after i spent a long time trying to recover from this, i checked the expiration date. it was 9 years expired already. I have no idea of how my aunt kept it with her for such a long time, and then decided to give me it lol
Most instant food have a “best by” date versus an “expiration date”. So most likely the flavors may just change, but generally you won’t get sick. Especially since most of the ingredients are not natural, authentic, or fresh.
Yup we had tomato soup after the best by date and it was just not as nice as tge newer can (my kids didn't always rotate the stock) it was slightly dull compared to the new can and color was slightly dull.
@@TheDarkizer i actually had a samyang cheese noodles at home, expired by 7 months. Made them but was scared to eat so i Just threw them away. Guess I dodged a stomach ache
This sounds like a dangerous concept until you realize expiration dates are just suggested "best eaten by" dates. Like when you eat something a minute after it cools instead of 5-10 minutes after. The minute would be the best eaten by date though 5-10 is still perfectly fine. Sorry. This was too tempting to point out.
Dude this is funny! On my show I talk about eating expired foods all the time and get ribbed about it. I have an iron stomach from being poor when I grew up and we ate anything so we didn't go to bed hungry! Keep up the great vids!
The wind knocked one of them down and I was hoping the number would go down to 9 “We are trying 10 expired foods today” *winds knocks one down* “ we are trying 9 expired foods today”
Hope you're okay! I have defintely had expired noodles by a few months (I overbought...) but stopped when they started tasting off. Please don't get sick! It is scary how the littlest expired food can have a strange, unforeseen effect. Then again, I watch Steve1989MREInfo eat all kinds and he clearly has a steel stomach haha.
As long as it does not show signs of deterioration, a product can perfectly be consumed after the expiration date, since that is used by companies to know how fresh the product is and thus avoid inconveniences (and lawsuits)
I'm having such a bad.. month.. your videos always make me smile. And I special thank you from the bottom of heart to not make any mouth noises like those nasty ass mukbangs. The videos aren't the same with the sound off, the white noise back ground sound makes the videos special. And don't go getting sick eating that funky food.---- but what on earth did you do to that pancake? It looks like it went under a lawnmower 🤣🤣
Hey DB! I'm a new subscriber, loving your content! Would be nice if you could put more details in the description like addresses of restaurants or where you get your meal kits from, like the hotpot and bbq delivery kit. Would love to try it myself as well~
I can definitely say, some dried and flash dried versions are ok. Almost like the miso, but you have to use it within two weeks after the expiry. Since there only good for travel purposes or hiking. As for other stuff, forget it. But yeah, I can see why it doesn’t taste good with certain noodles that you tried.
If you don't see rust or mold, or broken packaging it is most of the time edible. A few years ago I saw a video where an old guy eat canned meat from ww2 and he was good even I tried some food 6 years after the expiration and I was ok. Just take look at how much food is put in trash after expiration at least in last years they put in foodbanks(in some countries) etc
Dried instant packaged food will not be off for a long time, just watch out if it contains dairy powder etc, but it will still last years if store correctly. Not sure why you would think instant noodles would taste bad after only a year or two.
Here are my conclusions: 1. The expired food is much worse on taste if it was on styrofoam or a cup and the food is directly touched its package (examples: Japan and Korean noodles in this video used styrofoam like and a normal cup noodle and the noodle's taste is gone bad because it touched the package directly); UNLESS it was expired no longer than 3 months (the 1st noodle still fine) 2. Food that are packaged again on a separate package such as aluminum like packs or plastics like packs are tend to be fine (the 2nd noodles, and most of the food in this video such as milk tea, chocolate porridge, pancake mix) 3. Never ate any expired dehydrated food or pre-cooked food after it's expired because it must gone bad (the clam porridge, and the lamb curry is seems okay but the rice is not so good looking, also all the dehydrated vegetables after expiration date seems to lose their nutrition and went completely dry, although it seems still edible)
Come to the UK and try our wide variety of fine dishes. Egg n chips Sausage and chips Gammon and chips Pie and chips Pork chops and chips Ham and chips Burger and chips Fish fingers and chips Chips Cheesey chips Lasagne and chips Kebabs and chips Curry and chip Chip Sandwich Etc etc.....
Usually expiration dates are suggested dates. Dry noodles like any pasta will last until the next ice age. When you have to watch dates is in fresh food such as meat and even then if you freeze it you can get an extra 6 months out of it (I always add additional wrap on meats and chicken products and keep in the deep freeze NOT the freezer above you ice box) Exasperation dates normally mean that that the seller will guarantee the product to be at its best quality. Note that the date stamp DOES NOT mean that on that date the product is no good at all. Dairy products usually will last 7 days after the expiration date, ultra pasteurized dairy products will last up to the date printed and usually about 10 to 14 days later but always check...unless you like curdled milk chunks
For the best pancakes you can make smaller circles and flip when you see bubbles form then start to mostly pop. The SINGLE ONE you made would normally be 2-4 cakes here! It was fun to see syrup called pancake sauce! Try to add some blueberries to the next batch, and keep making great content!
11:40 How spicy we're talking about? Ghost Pepper noodles are the spiciest by far; I had to stop for a good moment until I finally finished it. Compare to it, Korean spicy noodles are more tolerable, though still need something to combat that spiciness. Most instant foods were freeze-dried(so they were called) to last for quite a long time, even past the expiration date. If there are things we did learn from wars and apocalypses, stocking up on them is the best way. Semi-liquid should be acceptable, but be careful if they begin to grow molds, smells bad, or both. And especially the kinds that were packed in the can; metal cans, to be precise. In fact, rusts is a big turn-off(you're free to check the contents, however). Speaking of dinner danger, though.... Those nearly expired items at the supermarket might be a good run, too. Just be careful if you happen to stumble upon milks; some actually went bad before their expiry date. Blegh! But really, just my luck that I got a bad one before, but the others should be fine. But again, a little taste test first before picking it up.
I ate an expired boxed soup years ago. I didn't check the date, just made it. It was a chicken type soup. I ate half. I had a cold so really couldn't taste it. About an hr later. I became deathly sick. I took the box out of the garbage can and it was 6 months expired. I was never so sick in my life. It took a month to get back to myself.
It typically takes 6-8 hours to experience real food poisoning. Are you sure you didn't just have an upset stomach? Soups are usually ok to eat even a year or two after "expiration".
As always, some foods are perfectly edible beyond the stated date on the packaging, especially when it is stated as "Best Before". Those foods are usually canned foods, dried, powdered and freeze dried. Frozen Foods can be also eaten safely even while expired.
