My favorite Churchill quote has got to be the one where he said "I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilised tribes," and that "the objections of the India Office to the use of gas against natives are unreasonable." Truly a great hero to go down in history!

The full quote may be more beneficial for context: It is sheer affectation to lacerate a man with the poisonous fragment of a bursting shell and to boggle at making his eyes water by means of lachrymatory gas. I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilised tribes. The moral effect should be so good that the loss of life should be reduced to a minimum. It is not necessary to use only the most deadly gasses: gasses can be used which cause great inconvenience and would spread a lively terror and yet would leave no serious permanent effects on most of those affected.

Churchill was talking about using chemical weapons to “limit casualties” among colonial subjects, but this is all within the context of enacting violence against the Indian people in order to force them to be under British colonial rule. None of this is acceptable, and the fact that you are defending Churchill in this instance shows that you are pro-colonialism.

Fact 11 Churchill played a crucial role in the Bengal famine in which more than 3 million Indians starved and then blamed the Indians for “breeding like rabbits” he was a horrible man that should not be honoured and is another reason why the British empire should not be looked back on favourably DONT BRING POLITICS INTO ASMR

‘Every effort must be made, even by the diversion of shipping urgently needed for war purposes, to deal with local shortages.” A man of the 19th century certainly had distasteful views that are unacceptable to the modern day - and rightly so - but to anachronistically apply 21st century morals to history and ignore the contextual impact the man had on being the one stalwart against the Nazis in Western Europe is just a wilful blindness to weighing the full picture.
