When one tours the battlefield there, it really grabs you by the throat. So many young men perished, so many relics and houses still bearing witness. This year the 80th anniversary. Hope to meet a lot of folks , showing respect. Excellent episode. Respect.

Yep, every now and then these things happen - sorry. The audio test ahead of time was fine. The thing with scheduling a live show is that people are waiting and it's always tough knowing whether to abandon or persevere. As you saw, after 20 minutes we found a solution. I hope if you ever host a RU-vid channel you never have anything not work perfectly

Looking forward to three weeks of Bulge topics. To me nothing new in this show. I live near the Ardennes and have an active interest since childhood. I have corresponded with/interviewed and met dozens of veterans from both sides. I do have to buy PCA book to have an opinion on it. The show was called '10 facts everyone should know'....indeed anyone with a bit of knowledge on the battle already knew these. Will defintely watch other shows of interest!

Historian Danny Parker in his Bulge book years ago deduced that maybe 60-70 at the most Tiger 2s were in the Bulge in the two heavy Panzer battalions that had them. The 301st had Tiger 1s. Full strength for each battalion was 45 tanks. Also for the Tiger 2s was built in sabotage and defects at the factories where they were made by the slave labor building them.

The Germans also went further south in the Ardennes in 1940 than in 1944. The former's crossing point was Sedan and environs which got them out of the more mountainous portion of the area than in late 1944. Sedan as a crossing point would not have worked for taking Antwerp however.

I appreciate the comment about it being a long battle. Most books (and wargames) only talk about the first half. My dad was with the 17th Airborne by then, They entered the battle just after New Years - it is really hard to find info on that part of the battle. Any recommendations?

Peter rubbishing Hitlers idea that this would split the Americans and the British was totally wrong! The Americas did get split from the British in a the blame game even though the Germans did not succeed.

The Tiger II was designed with fighting in open country in the East in mind. Longer field of vision gave the Tigers with the 88 and better optics an advantage. Tiger units had an 11 to 1 kill to loss ratio. Using Tigers in the West was a waste of resources. Using them in the Ardene terain was idiotic. As for brakedowns. But late 44, the drivers of German tanks were ill trained and often damaged their tanks and transmissions.

Little known for this campaign is that Hitler allocated 135 million rounds of brass cased 8mm ammo instead of the sometimes less reliable steel cased ammo.

@europhile2658 2 года назад
I liked the part on ultra. I read that Hitler liked the Lorentz machine, was that used for the Bulge? I also read that Hitler gave his orders in person for this campaign and at the end told people if they leaked the secret they would be shot. What I'm trying to understand is whether the Germans suspected that their communications were insecure?

Without minimizing the Bastogne Siege in comparison to the Elsenborn Ridge and in full respect of all those who fought in the Bulge, the biggest eye opener Dr Caddick-Adams gives me is at 1:16:18 "But at no point did those surrounding the garison in Bastogne ever outnumbered those inside. So it wasn't really a proper siege" Enjoyed reading Snow & Steel , the bibliography of the book demonstrates the amount of research that went in to it and sets you an a journey of more quality reading on the subject. Thank you for this channel and it's almost that time of year again...please spoil us with another Bulge special for the 79th anniversary of the battle.

The V2 was an ineffectual weapon from the very planning stages. It carried a one time bomb and was not very accurate. To deliver this one time bomb, required building an entire disposable and presumably expensive and time consuming aircraft. How could the V2Possibly compete with a bomber which is reusable, more accurate, and in those days could carry up to 4 to 5 tons of bombs? The V2 was a laughable idea - - of course the V one was much worse

I will reach 400 livestreams next year that I put on RU-vid freely for people to watch and learn from and yes sometimes there are internet problems. We tested before the show and it was fine, and then it became an issue as we started. As I say, it happens sometimes.
