Another fascinating fact: this is the only summerslam where nothing off-script happened during Stone Cold's match... 1996-the top rope breaks 1997-Austin breaks his neck 1998-Austin gets knocked out by the Undertakers head 1999- Austin loses his balance standing on the bottom rope and gets his knee braces caught 2000-NA
I would say basically the only semi decent thing that DDP did in WWE as a wrestler was he did a good match with Christian at WrestleMania everything else was terrible.
If I recall correc-crec, if I recall correctly, the build up to Summer Slam 2001 was fucking class. 16 years on and I still remember the Dallas, Taker and Sera angle.
I went to this when I was a kid (11)! My parents didn't have enough money growing up but my father and went and ibwikk be forever grateful for that. They looked like ants but no matter I was at SunnerSlam in San Jose!
I'm one of the few that actually enjoyed the invasion storyline. It would have been fucking awesome if Hogan, Nash, Hall, Goldberg and Sting would have joined during it though.
Say what you want, but I loved SummerSlam 2001, it was loaded from beginning to end, had some amazing matches, Austin vs Angle, RVD vs Hardy, Taker & Kane vs DDP & Kanyon and Rock vs Booker. I also enjoyed the Invasion angle, because even if you had Goldberg, Hogan and Sting, WWE would have always won the thing, because they had Austin and Rock on the same roster. You can imagine all you want, but it would have just been the same if you had Goldberg or Sting, because they would've been heels, and gotten destroyed by the WWE guys.
There is a number of flaws you could pick out but ending with Booker T showing off with the spinaroonie only to walk straight into a Rock Bottom was a classic way to end the pay-per-view. Infact Booker T was a great seller, not forgetting at the 2002 Rumble when he received a Stunner and toppled over the top rope. Looked as realistic as you could hope it could look.
Austin should've never gone over to the Alliance. The angle could've been saved if Rock would've the head guy going against WCW/ECW with Austin as a rogue keeping consistent with his rattlesnake persona.
Imagine how much more success DDP could of had in wrestling if he began wrestling 10 years earlier. Then again he's a Hall of Famer so how much better did he really need to be?
From a pure storytelling perspective (and not a "how it should have been with a proper roster" perspective) -- the first half of the Invasion storyline was solid. When they turned Angle heel however, they messed everything up.
Stars Die I was re watching some of it the first bunch of segments were great once in my opinion Austin joined the alliance it took a nose dive in my opinion when the alliance just became Austin worshippers in retrospect I think Jericho should've been the defector
Stars Die well even at the invasion PPV he could've turned and the next night cut a promo about how wwf promised him the world and he kept getting screwed
I was a DirecTV subscriber at the time, and that standoff actually dragged out for a few months. They gave us Unforgiven in part because 9/11 had just occured, and then from No Mercy in October until I believe No Way Out in February we didn't get anything. Considering that, Invasion disappointment aside, the WWF product was actually ridiculously fun during this period, that sucked.
Listen @Whatculturewrestling, JTG, he’s the greatest of all time!!!! He needs to make an epic return soon! He’s the key to the success what WWE needs! JTG!!!!! JTG!!!!! JTG!!!!!!
I feel like Stone Cold's heel turn, was a major reason the Attitude Era came to an end. Add in a WWE/WCW invasion that fell flat, the end of the greatest era in all of wrestling.
one of the great what ifs. what if...wcw stars didn't have the option to stay home and the guys who'd show up in wwe by 2003 were a part of the invasion. Imagine if Goldberg, Flair, Hogan, Nash, Hall, Mysterio, etc were all in the Alliance
God there was just so much that could have been done after buying wcw out. Letting shane run it on a different schedule with the permanent "competition" factor between them. The young blood wanting to make his mark, the old hand screwing him over whenever possible. They didnt need to have a single invasion, they could have stretched out challenges between brands for all sorts of reasons. A match here, a match there, shane puts his biggest money raiser against vinces biggest money maker at a combined ppv event. All the matches of legend the fans wanted to see could play out. There could be constant blending of rosters as they switch for various story related reasons. Basically, the monday night wars without an actual direct competition. It could have been GLORIOUS. Then after giving it a year or two, if it didnt work out, they could merge the two brands together and call it a day, BUT GIVE IT A REAL SHOT FIRST!
Side note: I used to work for DirecTV and, in 2015, WWE PPVs were not available in my area. Idk if things have changed in other parts of the country, but locally, I have DirecTV and they do not offer the WWE shows.
I feel like the next punishment should have to be a mock top 5 greatest wrestlers of all time list where they are forced to be over the top in support of wrestlers they can't stand For instance, plumpy's list would look something like 5. The Great Khali 4. Doink the Clown 3. The gobbledy gooker 2. Eva Marie 1. R-Truth There could be no hint of sarcasm, everything they said would have to be as if they wrote the list themselves and believed it 100%, don't show them the list ahead of time and write a bunch of obviously BS statements like "Eva Marie is arguably the greatest in ring performer for women as well as men", the facial reactions would be incredible
Wow, 770,00 buys?!! :O I didnt know there were 770,00 fans let alone 770,00 people willing to buy it on pay per view! That blew my mind 770,00 times! ...770,00!!!
I attended that event for absolutely free. A friend of my Mom had been given 5 tickets from a friend who worked at San Jose arena. One of those tix was given to me.
I'm still gutted about the DDP debacle. Vince should've been wise enough to do a Raw in a southern JCP hotbed of a city (Atlanta/Charlotte) where DDP does his "Who is the REAL people's champion?" idea. OF COURSE the Rock would've won, but they could've had a legendary feud with a WrestleMania payoff. People like me (WCW marks) would've paid crazy money to see DDP vs The Rock and I'm sure if they did it correctly the feud could've been one of the biggest ever. Fuck that stalker bullshit. DDP will forever be the REAL People's Champion. #BANG
Pretty sure this is late, today should be 2002, I of course understand they have a busy schedule but they could upload them earlier in the day to avoid missing one
if they all have access to the username and matching password of a given account, yes. but you didnt me to tell you that, did you? also, be sure to read the fine print, if two or more of those people are online at the same time you might get accused of dirty business and have the account suspended. I dont know if its the case, but its worth making sure
I mean, My parents and i use the same account, and I haven't been penalized for it yet, but there could also be different circumstances that affect that. It never hurts to be too careful, and 90% of the time I don't watch the shows live, nor does my mom, but she watches it the day after and I watch it whenever I feel like it
Wow.. I tore mine last year and it hurt like hell. Mine was extra painful because it tore and then folded under itself. That hurt enough that I'm sure a regular tear hurts a ton too. You also have no confidence in your knee, besides pain it feels weak unstable. Must really suck to wrestle like that.
Mr. Microwave Stopper when his knee kept locking up they knew he had to get it taken care of. Watch Survivor Series 2012. By the end of the match he was only putting pressure on his right leg. I remember watching the lead up to TLC and thinking they never intended for Punk vs Ryback
So SOME wrestlers think that heavily scripting your matches is for weaklings and amateurs, and DDP was untalented for not being able to improvise on the fly. Well you know who ELSE minutely scripted every detail of their matches? RANDY "MACHO MAN" SAVAGE! Stick THAT in your pipe and smoke it!
Guys like ddp and samo zayne (who try and cordinate thier matches) need to be promoted instead or depushed. Because they're trying their hardest to put a plan together and make thier matches great and people hate them for it. I don't get that.
