I hear so many influences say," wear something you love. " I honestly don't love anything in my closet and believe me, it's not for lacking of buying. If I had to get rid of everything that doesn't spark joy, I'd be in my pajamas. I buy things I think I'm going to love and then wear them and think...What was I thinking??? My goal in '23 will be to find two outfits that I feel good in. Thanks for the video!

Oh, dear, maybe a good stylist can help you find things you really love? I think Nordstrom does this for free through their Personal Shopper/Sylist appointments, just give them all your parameters, requirements and goals in advance (it sounds like your immediate goal is to find two outfits that you love). For me, for example, synthetic fibers and plastic footwear or accessories are out of the question, as are certain colors and high heels. I don’t know if you fill out a questionnaire before or how it works exactly, but they say they can help with anything from choosing a special-occasion outfit to a complete wardrobe, and I think the stylists/shoppers all have special training (but double-check). It would be great for you to have a nice capsule wardrobe to start with. If the problem is that you’re not happy with your figure, stylists can help a lot with styling around, that, too. I’m not slim, but I do find things I love on me. Maybe shoot for two “Smart Casual” outfits (top, bottom and jacket, or dress and jacket) where you can change the items around, to start? Happy hunting, I’m sure you will find great things, with a little help from someone who’s trained in styling and knows the shop’s inventory well🙂

Maybe start with trying to understand what you dislike about your clothes. Are you buying for someone else or things you like on other people but which don't fit your style/life? Do you have anything where you like something about it eg I don't like that top /dress but it's a good colour or I hate that colour but the shape is good and work out from there

I haaate this three word thing people are talking about. Can't find your words? Do this instead;. Go to your closet ask yourself , how do you want to feel today? Whatever those words are , comfortable, classic, quirky, funky, fresh? Pull the representation of those words off their hangers and put them on your body. You'll thank me later. 💚 Good tips Anna! My Best Mascara hacks: 1.Twirl your wand DON'T pump it up and down 2. Clean the tip of the wand off before applying to your lashes 3. Use a mascara comb or clean disposable mascara wand to separate your lashes after applying It takes an extra minute or two, but it will make you lashes look better. Last: Never curl your lashes after applying mascara. Always curl first then apply mascara. It cuts down on lash loss and clumps 😘

You make a very good point about consulting our future selves. I AM my future self since back in the day (my mid 30s) when I got serious about what lies ahead. Now (in my late 60s) I am 35 yrs smoke free, 19 yrs debt free and considerably more fat free. I'm WAY more discerning of what I eat and drink, what I buy and why and who I associate with and why. Some of this was accomplished by hindsight but it's the forethought that leads to the self discipline to prevent future setbacks. For me, the key in all this is worshiping God. My future self will not have dropped the ball on this again. God bless you, Anna.

On the washing clothes thing, you can stick delicate fabrics and denim in freezer overnight to kill bacteria or lift stains you can easily wipe off. I do this with silk and rayon a lot to extend wear and not over wash.

Three words for me would have to include "rustic" or "natural." I refuse to wear plastic. My clothes and accessories have to be silk, linen, wool (cashmere, merino, camel hair), cotton, leather, hemp. Absolutely HATE polyester and acrylic, which eliminates most of the fashion items I find on Amazon. I love the handmade look, love the bumps and crinkles and slubs and imperfections of real fabrics.

Me, too, I completely agree. I just can’t wear any synthetic fibers or plastic shoes/accessories. I can tolerate the “manmade cellulosic fibers”, made from plant fibers (lyocell/rayon/viscose family) fairly well, at least they’re breathable. But quality is so important in those, the thicker the better. Cheap viscose, especially, can go limp, puckered and winkled, just from a light steaming or hanging near a shower. One cold water, hand-wash usually makes it look completely worn out, ironing sometimes helps somewhat. I just am avoiding fast-fashion altogther, even their 100% cottons can be awful. H&M’s cotton shirting (used in their dresses, too) just won’t iron properly, much less wash well. As soon as the hot iron is removed, they pucker and wrinkle right up, worse than before, even when dry-ironing. I’m buying more and more silk clothing, it’s the only fiber that really is non-irritating. Note: allergies, like mine, develop with repeated exposure over the years, I could tolerate them at first n my early 20s, then suddenly no longer. My dermatologist told me that if they cause a patterned rash, like that in the fabric pattern, weave or knit, you’re allergic to the fiber and don’t need further testing. Plastics might be fine for things like sun awnings or tarps, but they’re not suitable at all for clothes and accessory, skin needs to breathe, for one thing. Plastics, of course, even blends with 1% synthetic or so, aren’t biodegrade OR recyclable, even with 0.5% Spandex, which I loathe! I’ve been looking, unsuccessfully, this winter for 100 cotton turtlenecks, they all have Spandex in them, but I hate being squeezed all over in clothes by that. If we all stop buying synthetic fibers and blends, brands will get the message. I searched for breathable-fabric linings in coats and jackets for decades, I’m finally starting to find a few (Banana Republic, The Curated). Vote with your wallets, ladies!

@@pippinhillhaviland1147 Exactly! Or plastic shoes? I just ordered a pair of “genuine leather” boots, that’s what I searched for, at least. What I actually got: 100% plastic, with, incredibly, polyester linings! Guaranteed Athlete’s Foot! And at $200? What thievery. I was stunned and no longer count on search engines, even at Nordie’s, where these were from. I now read every single word of each item’s description, regardless of what I searched for. “Lined, “fully-lined”, “luxury lining”, etc., without specific fiber information always means polyester, I discovered. If the fiber content of every part isn’t given, I don’t buy - it means they’re evading the issue and using polyester or other plastics. This is a very common trick, they’re hoping we won’t notice. It can’t cost more than $5 extra to use breathable rayon instead of poly, so why don’t they just use the rayon or similar fabric and charge more, even $10 more, they dan keep the 109% profit. It’s about $300 and up to reline a blazer where I live, not including the fabric, which is only a few dollars for the yard or so required. Or just make unlined ones with natural-fiber outer fabric?🙂

Bold, eclectic and artistic…apparently. This is actually from an oil painting class I attended this am and the other women in the class (who I met in December) were discussing my clothing choices. I found an old photo of me from 2013 and I couldn’t believe how conservative and “safe” I was in my style. Who knew? Great tips, as always Anna. Am going to try the chapped lips trick tonight!

I've used the Future Self concept for a while and it helps so much!!! For example, I always ALWAYS do the dishes the night before so my future self wakes up to fresh coffee and a tidy kitchen. Even when I'm really tired and don't want to I know my future self will appreciate it. Great video! I like the idea of the go-to outfit!

Spoolies, Anna! I used to be a TV presenter/reporter and the make-up artists would use disposable wands so as not to cross-contaminate the different women they'd work on. You can buy them in different materials. But 100 pink plastic wands cost a couple of bucks on Amazon and I use them all the time to lift and separate or to groom my brows. You can then use any mascara you like. (And BTW, the pros all use L'Oreal Voluminous which has been my go-to for 30 years.) Not the most eco-friendly solution but you can always wash and re-use if they're plastic. Your bras will last a lot longer if you handwash them. A quick soak at night in a mild detergent in the sink as you are taking off your make-up (or whatever) and then let them dry overnight on the shower rod/hose. And, if you insist on putting them in the machine, be careful that the hooks don't wreck anything else delicate. In fact, when in doubt, handwash and hang or lay flat to dry. All my sweaters and good blouses and bras and some of my panties and active wear, I also have a handwash cycle (as well as delicates) on my washer which I LOOOOOOVE. If you can afford a washer that does that, you will be forever grateful.

I do this with bathing suits as well! Cold water rinse with Woolight, use a towel to get out excess water then lay to dry. Using a pool and got tub ruins suits. 😊

I always try on potential white garments on in the store. If they’re too (ahem) translucent, they will require extra outfit planning. Nope. My warm weather style is a coastal grandma meets preppy and hippie. My cold weather style is edgy meets dark academia artsy.

I made the commitment last year to only wear natural fibers (cottons, wool, linen, bamboo, silk, leather, etc.) and it’s been the best choice. You can’t help but look elevated and other people notice also. It feels SO good against your skin so you are pleasing your senses and natural just compliments the body and face so much better then anything synthetic does. This is a mind shift away from fast fashion and towards investing instead. You may end up owning less you will appreciate and enjoy your clothing more.

I came up with this hack about 10 years ago all on my own so I wouldn’t lose any socks while doing laundry. Every time I’m done wearing a pair of socks, I fold them back together, that way when I do laundry and have a basket full of a bunch different garments, I know that every sock pair in their is folded together and I just unfold them before putting them in the washer. I even got my boyfriend doing it. So simple but what a game changer. I think I might like the laundry bag more though bc I still have to go through all the clean laundry to find matching socks but at least I know the match is in this load somewhere lol!

I have stopped washing my clothes so much and paid attention to how I was them and have for one, lowered the amount of money I spend on basics and 2 gotten more compliments on my clothes. I now know more about buying better clothes, it has taught me what types of knits last better (keeps shape and doesn't pill) and why buying better denim is more economical as well (doesnt loose shape). I don't look so frumpy. Its so strange how changing 1 habit teaches you so much. I stopped needing fast fashion to fix wardrobe issues, I was just washing things too much or wrongly..

Love the future self question!! I usually do “is this choice honoring my goals,” etc. but I like the way you pose it better - much less formal and more conversational. Re: being self-centered… I’ve carved out time for myself for a long time and when I had family or friends that said they “could never find time” I would always say (compassionately) “if you don’t make time for yourself, no one else will.” It’s uncomfortable sometimes, and goes against centuries of feminine, maternal programming, but we HAVE to do it 😆. Here’s a mascara hack: Take a mascara wand from a used-up tube that you love and clean it. Use it to unclump whatever mascara you are using. I did not like Pillow Talk mascara but I love the wand!

The future-self question is a great one to ask in all kinds of areas. Are you spending money on something trivial? That five bucks or whatever doesn't seem like much, but if you do that a few times, it adds up to real money. Are you eating the rest of a meal that you didn't even especially like? or an extra few tortilla chips when you've really had enough? Later on, you might wish you hadn't done that. And less "important," hey, great tip on the mascara wand!! All my life I've wondered why mascara is so hard to manage. That might be the key for me, too! Thanks as always.

I wear opaque, skin-colored or white tights under translucent white trousers, which works, but rules them out for warm weather. Even perfectly no-show nude panties create a contrasting shade where they end. Thick, 100% cotton, white jeans sometimes aren’t see-through, but I still wouldn’t risk dark undies!

I only handwash my bras because they are too expensive to put in the washing machine and they have wire and are big. Only thing I have as one wear is my under pants (for obvious reason) and socks, everything if it not stained during the winter I will wear again before putting in the hamper. I actually had to tell a family member that I am my priority and I had to keep saying it to let it sink in for me because II been taking care of everybody around me and doing what everybody wants or needs and all of them are in their 30s or older (except for the grandbaby she turn 12 today). Great video! I need white or cream jeans for the (hopefully) upcoming warm weather, so thanks for the tip. Re mascara, I keep a few old mascara brushes that I clean (it takes a while but it's worth it) to declump my mascara.. I love the plastic ones too. My 3 words are the same as yours: relaxed, classic, and effortless, which make me feel great no matter how casual or dressy. All the other tips are excellent, as well. XXOO ❤️

Most of my life, we’ve lived under severe or extreme drought conditions here in California, so I tried washing my clothes less often to save water. My clothes stayed so much newer-looking for a lot longer, so I always do it now. We finally got some decent rainfall this winter, but I’m still keeping my water-conservation habits and my wardrobe looks the better for it. I just check for spots, or odors (not often a problem because, like most Americans, I shower and wear deodorant every day), then I hang them back up to air out. I do keep these on a separate rack because I don’t want to put the once-or-twice worn items back into my closet. I only keep freshly-laundered clothes in there, or jackets, etc., that have been steamed, brushed and aired out completely (I use a big stand fan in my laundry room). I also never tumble-dry clothes, except deliberately to shrink new things before hemming. The dryer is very hard on clothes and nothing with Spandex or other elastic in it should ever go in it. I have a clothesline and drying racks in my laundry room, and with my big fan on, things dry really fast (fans are very energy-frugal to run, it’s the heat-producing appliances that gobble up power).

Hmmm, laundry bag...? I used it a few times, but even underwear didnt dry well and had to run the dryer again...

I’ve seen women with the white clothing issue of showing too much skin underneath and I don’t know how to tell them. I’m still experimenting with my Tinted Blur Sculpt Stick. I love my laundry bags! I’m not using the dryer for my clothes anymore unless I really need the items right away. The dryer is mostly for sheets and towels nowadays.

For my underwired bras, I use a wired round laundry bag that protects not only the lacey bits but also the shape. Plus, for travel you can get cute reinforced bra shape lightweight boxes. The knickers fit in, too. My mother taught me that natural fibres don’t attract dirt and smells like man made fibres. So - I rotate my wool and cashmere jumpers, and rarely need to wash them. For denim, I use a detergent designed for it; but they should be washed as seldom as possible.

I am 67 so I have tried many mascaras and have had diff favorites. A year ago i discovered Lashrockets by Freck. It is hands down the best i have ever tried.

Have you or anyone tried the Spanx white pants or shorts with the Silver lining technology? They are totally opaque. And great advice on buying and wearing white clothes 👍🏼 I won't be able to forget the mascara portion of this video. I literally laughed out loud when you had the split screen up and said, how creepy it looked🤭 I do prefer the brush you suggested. The massive brushes are too much. Sometimes, it will look like 12 year old me, learning how to put on mascara. Little black marks on my eyelids. 😆 I ain't got no time for that. Less mess with the plastic brushes for sure.

Mind blowing about white in a bigger size. I'm curvy and avoid white like the plague. Might tried it. About cracked lips, 100% shea butter is better than artificial vaseline because we swallow it. Also, the question about my future self makes a lot of sense. Thanks.

Lip booming will do the trick too White definitely go up a size or two I hand wash my bras and undies I gave up of socks they are in sock heaven lol My three words, comfortable, classic, unique ( May change tomorrow 😂 Agree with stop washing, been doing it forever Bronzer tip 💯 percent spot on Yeap, dresses, it’s a one and go ! I'm guilty of washing clothes after every wear. Not outerwear, but all the rest. Now I've been trying to air them out outside in the winter for a few hours. Not like there's stains or anything on the clothes, so washing them constantly makes no sense.

I own about 15 laundry bags... I use them especially for sweaters.... I put one sweater only per bag.,. Then cold water .. lay flat or hang dry .... It keeps the sweaters from picking up fibers from other items and no pilling because the sweater is not being rubbed on itself... I do this for alot of my clothing no more dry cleaning except wool or silk...... And i wash blacks with blacks only.... I have black clothes iv had for years and are still as black as when new... and no picked up fibers from other clothing

Did a personal makeup course n for like formal event the mascara routine they taught was to warm lash curler a bit with hair dryer n then curl lashes. Followed by one coat of lash Primer and mascara in the end. I have found that if in hurry using just two different mascaras works really well. Like no curler straight use essence mascara one coat then second coat of a maybelline or loreal mascara of ur choice. N I am a person with tiny scanty lashes.
