I'm happy for Glover and Charles. Both seem like great guys inside and out of the cage and its inspiring to see guys who have had ups and downs finally achieve their dream.
Regular (or irregular) Fighters who often beat top tier fighters: Michael Johnson Keith Jardine Maurice Smith Stefan Struve Chris Leben (not many victories, but Im just populating the list)
@@Maartun not to mention he's dominating his division at the moment. We could be seeing another Natural if he can keep his pace up. 42 and winning titles, great work.
The glover fight literally had me on my feet and screaming at my TV. It's amazing to see someone iv followed for years and thought maybe was fading. Come back and blast a whole division.
Needs more Brandon Moreno, cut from the ufc was a massive underdog against Figgy the first fight made it a draw, and comes back in the second fight to finish him. Moreno a real life Rocky story.
U know ppl use the term real life rocky when real life rocky story is high key not that inspirational after the famous fight its hella downhill from there now real life micky ward no wait hes also real...u know wut i mean damn
Many thought Figgy was going to destroy him in the rematch as well, and would continue his reign of terror over the division. But Moreno improvements, as well as karma in the form of weight cutting backfiring for the weight bully in Figgy, ended his rule.
Hell between the start of my 6th grade year to freshman year of high school i become an unlicensed historian of mma from ufc to pride to pancrase to some bigger regionals at the time nd its some of the funnest life experiences as an enthusiast have fun over here bud
Serbiocroata De Bosnia check out this channel. he's got tons of older events from ufc, pride, strikeforce....lots of great fights with guys from 90's to 2016 ot so. full fights not cut up highlights
At 38 years old (nearly 39) with the top of the division being wrestlers who are his natural kryptonite? Not a chance. Wonderboy had two chances to become champion against Tyron Woodley, and he dropped the ball twice in a row. Man's just can't seem to pull the trigger without getting himself caught.
@@madgavin7568 I honestly think Wonderboy has a chance against Usman, yeah before you guys jumped on me, this is just my hottest take so far though. Usman never faced a fighter who kicks a lot and control the distance, remember that Usman has shot knees? I think Wonderboy can capitalized on oblique kicking his knees. but once Usman get near on him, he will wrestlefuck him to death.
For sure. Couldn't stand Hendricks but Robbie felt like a great champion given the lack of GSP. Robbie brought a level of intensity and violence to every fight during that run that really contrasted GSPs calm and measured technical style and it was just a pleasure to watch him brawl.
Once he changed from Matt Hughes and co to att he transformed himself, started using his legs a lot more, knees and head kicks etc that we didn't see in his early run, it was all hands. Also he was lucky to return when the weight class was full of strikers which suited him down to the ground. Absolute legend. Disappointing to see him fight injured against Colby. One handed essentially
@@theboogieman401 i dont know about that, the ufc takes good care of guys who are willing to fight anyone anywhere, theyre probably gonna give him two or three people on the come up for his next few fights
@@gilbertoflores7397 Something has to be up. Perhaps they aren't as close. There is an MMAOP video for coaches who left their fighters in too long, and they show EB lamenting DH taking a fight when he would not be available. But as a former fighter, I am still hoping that EB gets where DH is at, and can still help him find another level...
@@Xjebin Through his ENTIRE career, Edgar has been the smaller fighter in all his fights. Yet he became the 155 champion despite being a currently undersized in the 135 division.
Seems strange that when talking about Bisping, his loss against Belfort and Bisping losing his right eye as a result of the KO kick from that fight wasn't mentioned. Arguably the most notable of his setbacks before becoming champ, as it meant that from then onward, he kept fighting and managed to become champ with only one eye.
I remember leaving the room all pissed after the 5th round for Lawler v Hendricks 2 thinking Lawler lost. My brother ran into my room to tell me he won and I could not believe it man. That was such a good night.
For me it's Bisbing all the way. For the long path anyways. I always enjoyed him but wasn't a fan early on. But the guy held out, eventually finishing off a remarkable career. I love him today lol
@@saunajoe5973 not get choked out by a welterweight and lose my title nor have I gone the distance with an over the hill well past his prime opponent. I also never ran from my division chasing “money fights” nor have I been awarded a victory simply because of home field advantage. Boy got a participation induction in the hall of fame. What have you done boy?
Missing Dillashaw. He was a +700 underdog in his bout for the title. Came out of nowhere and dismantled probably the most dangerous fighter ever up to that point in his division.
@@liptoncherry2436 Garbrandt fans love to talk about his 'masterclass' performance against Cruz, but they fail to mention that Cruz actually won two rounds in their fight including the final round. All everyone remembers though is Garbrandt knocking down Cruz a few times and showboating over it. Dillashaw's one-sided showing against Renan Barao is everything Garbrandt fans claim his performance was against Cruz, even though it wasn't.
@@liptoncherry2436 Renan Barao. He was on a 30 fight winning streak up until his fight against Dillashaw, with his only loss being his debut 10 years prior.
If that happens it’ll be hilarious and glorious. But I honestly think Tony needs to actually be properly coached for that to happen, I think this weird way he’s been training has kind of caught up with him.
When Glover Teixeira won the 205 undisputed belt everybody laughed and cried with full joy and was kinda shocked and surprised. But also everyone kinda really felt bad for his opponent can’t blame em. It’s tough when everyone wants both to win but only 1 comes out on top
@@CT-yr8ph same didn’t think he would do it. Give Jan a good fight yes . But for him to win and also dominate the champ like that was a happy surprise.
@@CT-yr8ph I'm gonna be honest I picked Glover to win but I was surprised too with the total domination. I don't know what happened to Jan but he didn't look like himself
A lot of fighters on this list definitely seem like they just needed time to develop and get experience/figure out how to optimize their training and game plan for top tier talent. I think UFC fetishizes talent understandably it's instantly impressive, and easily marketable, but I think MMA fans are willing to buy into a comeback story as well. Like just increase cutting to fighters to six fights and make that part of the narrative of fights people will pay attention when a guy starts proving people wrong.
@@isakdahl7875 Rose was 6-3 going into the Joanna fight and Joanna was a -700 favorite on some odds Max hadnt lost at FW since the Conor fight no one thought Volk would beat him
Forrest is so underrated by new fans and his haters. I’ll admit I’m a huge fan so I’m biased but the dude was tough! People like to lazer focus on his losses to Silva, Jardine and Evans But don’t give him credit for his wins. Say what you want about Forrest but he was tough and very well rounded. He retired with wins over Rich Franklin, Shogun Rua, Chael Sonnen, Rampage Jackson and Tito Ortiz. Give the man his props.
To be fair to Oliveira, when the time came to fight for the belt he was favoured to win and he won despite facing early adversity by Michael Chandler. All the other guys and girls were counted out when they eventually had to fight for the belt, including Moreno who many believed would be destroyed in the rematch by Figgy.
True story Caree Mofhitz-Paugh who ran Kikskin MMA gear along with her Brother Scott told me that Serra would KO GSP. We bet a tin of Tim Hortons coffee in it .... Up to this day I'm shocked. And understand when she made the prediction she was 100% utterly serious. She just told me she knew how the fight is going to end. And Serra is going to shock the world.
