You can find the Fochteloërveen around these coördinates: 52.994450, 6.378920 I would advise finding a hotel/hostel/bed and breakfast in the city Assen. Then you can take bus #14 to Veenhuizen. Then from there you can make a hike in the area. If you have a car at your disposal the city Groningen would also be a nice place to stay.
