Thanks for a lovely demonstration. I got all ten, took three weeks. Pigeon seemed to be the key for me, I systematically removed my restrictions using the static cotract relax method and all the other tricks (mostly patience) for reclaiming mobility which I learned from Kit Laughlin's channel here on youtube. This allowed me to fold the leg comfortably (in my cold room and I'm fifty and have onlly been doing yoga for two years and achieved zero improvement in flexibility till I found Kit's work and changes started happening at rates between fast and instantly). I rotated my pelvis clockwise and counterclockwise as I very slowly lowered towards the ground and allowed things to adjust and relax to avoid a startle pattern (the trick the sympathetic nervous system uses to contract muscles and cause pain and discomfort when we clumsily approach a novel pattern). Once I found the ground with one hand I counted backwards from five very slowly and listened to the tone and had the sound of the number last the entirety of the outbreath which was slow and even. This calmed down my sympathetic nervous systems apprehension and at that point I placed my second hand to make an equilateral triangle with my two hands and the one foot on the ground. I allowed myself to tip into the pigeon pose and again listened to the tone of my voice as I counted back from five. At this point I was comfortable and free enough to fly the other leg with full extension as I was not in a startle pattern and the small but important adjustment that freedom allows meant it was easy to hold the balance for another five slow breaths before slowly reversing the whole thing until I was back to the starting point. This removed all difficulty from the other poses. This video was inspiring in a humble way and that's as nice and unusual as it ever gets here.
Fantastic, Georgie is obviously extremely capable and a natural teacher, an invaluable addition to an already awesome team. Life-affirming lessons that will improve anyone's day! Thanks to all the crew at SofC! :)
When the elbows are bent during these positions they become a killer isometric exercise. I find such a position of constant tension really gives me a good pump, too. I would have thought only the triceps would get pumped but the biceps do, too. I'm still working on that first position.
Hey there, I'm currently trying to learn this position and i have a couple queries which I'd appreciate any advice for; When i try it, they is a slight fizzing/burning sensation on the inside of my right leg just above the ankle. I haven't ever injured it, or really ever had this problem before, so i figure it's improper warming-up or something, but I don't really want to pursue this if I'm gonna injure my leg. Also, i get a slight pain in my wrists, and i wondered if this exercise is good for building wrist strength, or simply requires it; I'm a guitarist, thus i have fairly loose wrists, and hoped this wasn't a detriment to the exercise. Thankyou kindly; will certainly subscribe.
Hey, we'd always suggest listening to your body and if you have pain rather than discomfort from a medical professional like a physio to get an assessment of what's going on for you. It's not possible to do that over the internet if that makes sense? In terms of building up strength in the wrists, progressively getting used to taking more weight through your handstand and wrists with simpler variations like crawling patterns and simple frog stands is helpful to build up slowly rather than trying harder versions before the wrists are conditioned for it. Does that help?
Been taking yoga for three years. 53 years old. I can do them all except firefly. I'm not flexible enough to extend the legs straight on that one. Someday...
Thats a very impressive set of progressions. Realistically, I have a chance of making it to the first sideways one - hip and hands supported. A shame you didn't include a sideways view of that one, so that we could see exactly how and where that supported hip was located. I will certainly give the mobility aspect of those stretched out ones a god - Can I get my leg over my shoulder I wonder? Won't know till I try!
This is a super video I am learning on my own to do the frog stand and still find it hard I think I need to join a group. Love all the moves that you do Thank u for sharing
