They are hard to find, but Persians do still come with normal faces. My Persian does not have the "extreme" face. Those poor flat faced cats have health problems that normal faced cats do not. Not to mention how labor intensive it is to keep their faces clean from eye discharges. I'd like to know where to find short haired Persians as the long hair is a pain to care for. I love my Persian for his sweet disposition and affectionate nature, not his fur (although he is gorgeous).
Curiosity question. Flatter faced(brachiocephalic) dogs (think boxer, pug, bulldog) frequently have breathing issues, and do not do well in the heat. Does this also apply to the flatter faced breeds of cat?
Yes the same applies, with the Persian it depends on how extreme their peke face is. My Persian has a moderate peke face and will snore at times when sleeping but otherwise no breathing problems. I also have a brachy breed dog and live in Australia so it’s just some extra common sense in summer with leaving the aircon on for them on the hot days, keeping the cats coat barhed and combed so the coat acts as insulation rather then a blanket and exercising during the cooler parts of the day.
I had a white copper eyes traditional (doll face) persian cat, she was a beautiful cat. I was always at the vet with her. I bought her in 1976 when she was 3 months old, and they were cheaper to buy at that time. In 1989 she suffered a stroke and the vet told me I have to euthanized her, that was the worst day on my life. I still have her ashes. I had many other cats after that, but never another persian.
Persians have pushed in noses, Angora cats don't, and not the heavy coats like Persians. So what's the difference between a Traditional Persians and Angoras?

They need to change the breed standard for the flat face, to less flat. This is cruelty to animals, just like pug dogs (and other breeds with flat snouts) who have difficulty breathing. This is just selfish, greedy, and irresponsible. Besides ...the doll face is much prettier. Those poor animals with a flat face aren't pretty. Poor things.
My first two cats were types of Persians. One was a flame point Himalayan, the other a shaded silver Chinchilla Persian. Chinchilla Persians are so beautiful with the "make up" outlining their eyes, nose, and mouth. They were wonderful pets but both turned out to have health problems. Sunny, the flame point had a faulty heart valve and Gin-Gin (named that by my ex) had developed a kind of cat version of ulcerative colitis. With Kaopectate and a special diet he did well for several years. At that time most Persians were either doll faced or early into the flattening of the face. They often looked like little gremlins. My ex called them "so ugly they're cute". Their peaceful nature is every bit as good as described. Still, as much as I love them I don't think I'd buy another, certainly not "show quality". They did the worst thing you can do to an animal like that. They tried to "improve" on it, which in the US means: find a peculiar feature and selective breed it to the most extreme point you can. Rarely do these changes benefit the animals. I got out of going to cat shows and all because of that. Today the only way I would get another one is through a rescue.
I love my Persian, although my dog influences her to be naughty like she’s started stealing food if my plate. In turn she’s taught him to jump up on the kitchen counter 🤦🏼♀️
I like Crookshanks, he's a beautiful orange cat, I also like MS Norris, they are both awesome cats, but I don't need a heart from the Purring Junals, but I still appreciate it, and right back at you ❤
My persian cat passed away 5 weeks ago. I miss her so much and I am out of touch right now. My cat did not feel well. I went to the vet after 2 days watching her. The vet said she is fine and healthy. She was 17 years old. The next day she passed away. I just do not understand it. We did a blood test nothing they could find. I am sad and i do not understand how a indoor cat passes away by being healthy. Is 17 years old for a persian cat?
