Those straps that they sent you are typically used to secure a sleeping bag roll or bed roll. The tie straps on older sleeping bags always break. I like the newer ones with compression bags personally. I can always roll bags and tents tighter than the factory
The wet towels would be great for hot days. Soak them in ice water and when they decompress, you can wrap it around your shoulders or head or where ever you want.

Dollar Tree has compressed cotton washcloths, they are super strong, and can be machine washed and reused. They even have cartoon characters for the wee one! :)
Despite the weird handle. A knife that could be an axe means its sharp and tough. I would love a knife like that with a less knuckle-ish but still compact handle
