In this video, we continue our git journey by seeing how to create branches in git. We first look at the command git branch to create a new branch and then the git checkout command to switch to a particular branch.
You could also practice branching from this website learngitbranch...

After a long break I have made a video on this channel brother. I hope it gives a fair comparison between SVN and Git. Do let me know if you have specific queries. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_kUu-FaKDVE.html

Hi Bro, Please advise. 1. how to commit & checkout to existing branch in a single command? 2. how to commit & checkout to new branch in a single command?

Karthik commit and checkout are two different commands in git. You can chain them in a single line in your console but still they are different commands. 1. Git commit -m "commit message"; git checkout existing_branch 2. Git commit -m "commit message"; git checkout -b new_branch

why should we create a 1st commit in main (Master) branch for creating new branches

Wow! Venkatesh, that is a great question and very deep. But to answer it simply, all you need to keep in mind is "Everything in Git is commit". If you init a new git repository, by default there is a pseudo branch which is named Master. Why am I calling it a pseudo branch? Because when you have just initialized a repository there is no commit yet, so the branch is pointing to nothing. You can check this behavior, when you have just initialized a repository try creating another branch using git checkout -b, and then if you try listing all branches using git branch you would see nothing. Now, what does this mean? It means that 1st commit is when you truly start a branch. Let it be called Master or whatever. But only after the 1st commit a branch is created, and only when there is already a branch, there is a need for forking to other branches.
