Despite making videos, it’s so clear how little I know 😜 - the GoPro tips were super helpful. Got a 10 still in the box and need to start playing with it !
@@AdventureMuse The funny thing is that she is a semi pro at many of these things, but has less time and tries to not have work and play be the same thing, whereas I am the beginner and am hungry to learn and improve but still know so little. Been watching lots of videos on editing cuts/filming shots lately. Hoping to start using more of them!
The hiking pole clip is a great idea! Cell phones and big cameras aren't the most convenient in middle of a hike. Been travelling and hiking for years and I've always struggled with the balancing act of taking photos / footage to be able to remember my trips and being able to enjoy the moment. Thank you for this video.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I would never come up with those tricks by myself. It very much helps from making boring movies like I did before. So yeah - thanks.
Just bought an 11 and am basically a Neanderthal with a chisel and rock as a hammer. I need videos like your to help me get the most and start out. The setting section is k-e-y. Thanks!!!!!
This was great, Jan! The thing I struggle with the most is getting enough shots and a variety of shots... especially when I'm in a group and with the big camera.
@@AdventureMuse I picked up a Sony ZV-1 a few weeks ago for all the reasons you mentioned. It's tiny, always with me, and does better footage-wise than my iPhone and my GoPro in most situations. My big camera is a hassle for documenting vlog style and it freaks people out most of the time. :)
Awesome tips! I really like how you showed examples of all the points. Made it very nice to follow along! Also bonus point for “school of rock” reference 🤘
Tons of great advice. I just picked up a second GoPro to use in my videos.. and on my last one, I actually took a stab at color correction. I feel like I'm getting the hang of this, but I know I have tons more to learn. Thanks Subscribed. - Joe
I smiled the whole way through watching this. Not only did I feel the joy you had recording each memory, you shared some really good tips to get diverse shots. I have the GoPro Hero 8 and loved that you mentioned stuff for it too. Please keep making more videos like this. I need the validation to go all in with GoPro and leave the big mirrorless camera and lenses to more specialized occasions. I just want to hike and go lightweight!
I will never get such good shots as you do but i will keep on trying. Yes do a video on editing i have so much trouble editing my videos. By the time im done i am not happy with it at all. I just need someone to sit down with me and show me how its done and walk me through it step by step till i get it right. I love your videos. I have been with you from the start and even your first videos are better than mine and you get better and better as you go. Keep up the good work and im just going to keep enjoying it. Have a great day.
Thanks Ken. You absolutely can. And as you probably saw how my old videos I was so awkward and not as good with filming or edits. It's practice and time. Thanks for watching and commenting. : )
What a great video. Either I missed it or you did not mention it and for that reason, I am both liking and subscribing to your channel. thanks for the wonderful tips.
Thanks for this video! Owned a DSLR back in the day, now I have a simple canon m100 and my phone.. but upgraded to the Hero 11 Black! After deciding forever between this and the new iphone 15 pro, gopro being the better and cheaper choice!! geez.. and the canon (even though it is smaller than a dslr, is rather annoying to carry with on adventures. Your tips really help me get to know the camera and different settings. Great job :)
Thanks for all these tips! Looking to use my GoPro more on my hiking and canoe trips! DSLr is so heavy...ugh. Didn't know there was a mouthy mount! LOL.
I used the Mouthy all the time, especially in the water, surfing and paddleboarding. It's so handy. I do love my Sony, but the GoPro does an amazing job for it's size. Best of luck!
Great music tip! That is my biggest struggle, picking and finding music (ok, making myself sit down and finish up edits is my biGgest struggle). •If you can add the weight to a backpack, some RainX in a travel-size spray bottle is a favorite luxury for the GoPro lens. Helps water bead off out of the shot in rain or after submerging.
Thanks so much. The sit down and edit is alway a challenge. 😆 I've used RainX and now the 10 should have a coating that repels water. It works okay. Happy editing!
I've tried it before and didn't like the angle and it is a bit shaky. I've attached it on my capture clip which is often on my backpack strap. If you have the attachments, go for it, try it out on a hike. I just found that having it on the pole was the sweet spot.
LOVED this video (and your others - the Angels Landing video is a favorite (we just did it a few weeks ago)). Just starting with a GoPro and this has been the most helpful of all the videos I’ve watched. And the trick to mount on the pole!!! We have the pole mount for a bike - but hadn’t thought of using our walking poles. We clipped to the backpack and it wasn’t nearly as good. PLEASE PLEASE do make that editing video. I’ll be waiting to watch. Can you tell me what program you use to edit? Thanks! - a new subscriber :)
Thanks so much, Joan! I need to map out the editing video. I do get asked often what I do. So glad you got to do Angel's landing. How was it with the new permit system?
I’ve never had an overheating problem, but I generally take short clips. I always use the quick start so I press the record button, turns on and records. When I’m done I press again and it’s off. Saves me from over heating, draining my battery and accidentally changing my setting if the camera isn’t locked
I’ve been enjoying your videos. Thanks for posting and sharing. My kids just bought me a GoPro 9 for my 2+ week hike on the John Muir Trail coming up the end of August. Any tips to extend battery life? I will have a couple Anker battery packs for my inreach, iPhone and GoPro, but I know battery life will be tight. I’ll see about getting a couple back up batteries.
Thanks so much. The new GoPro batteries, the white ones, do last so much longer. I hike with a solar pack that I charge everything with once I get to camp and that keeps all my tech going for days on the trail. You might want to think about getting a couple more batteries to take with you? they are so small, the weight isn't really noticable.
@@AdventureMuse awesome, yes, I’m checking out the new Enduro max life white batteries, they look promising. I’ve had luck with a solar charger on past hikes (Lixada, super lightweight), so I’m thinking just one Anker, the solar and the two extra batteries might be good. I have charging at Muir Trail Ranch then from there to Whitney is about ten days, or possibly Cottonwood Pass will be 12 days. I see so many people tweaking their settings, for example shutting off quick capture, etc., which seems to defeat the purpose of bringing it in the first place. Thanks again for the tips.
Excellent tips. One thing I must mention though is how over saturated these clips are. Is that your personal preference? Were these color corrected and graded? Thanks
Really appreciate this video and all of your advice and examples! Do you just use the onboard GoPro mic? Would love to see the editing tips video too! Just subscribed to your channel :)
So glad it was helpful! Yes, I just use the GoPro mic, no modifications. It's pretty amazing how well it works from the hero 8 on, i think it's solid. It's not great in the wind, and just remember to not turn your head when your talking... 🤪(I do that sometimes) Thanks so much for subscribing! Made my day! The editing video will be coming out probably in May or June.
Just depends where you’re at and if it’s windy. I wish I had it when I was at white pocket, you can get those foams that go over the GoPro they do work pretty well.
Hi! did you use ND filters on your hiking trip in this video? Do you recommend ND filters? Your post editing are beautiful! Your shots in this videos and the colors!
It’s good to see another tutorial on settings, but I wish some one would do a video on how crap some of the GoPro models are. My son and I have four models hero 4 black still going strong, an 8 it has been replaced and it still won’t record probably the 9 works fine and the 10, lasted 13 months. The biggest problem went back to the store “you will have to contact GoPro Australia” all I can say about that option GOOD LUCK WITH THAT time to try DJI😊
I’ve had great luck with GoPro customer service, but I also live in California not far from GoPro in Carlsbad. I’m currently using the 10 but also still use the 7 with an underwater dome. Sorry you’ve had issues.
After effect ls isn’t simple, If you're on a Mac you can start with iMovie, if you use a GoPro, try their free Quik app, If you want to learn how to do more Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
