Oh man that Silverstein riff brings me back! Every band on this list is incredible by the one that really has my heart here is Touche Amore. They are just EPIC.
I used to have that as my alarm clock song back in 2006 lol. Oh and hearing 'Post Script' brings me back to 2002 playing medal of honor Allied Assault mp.
No Thrice? hmm :( this does make me wonder how much of post-hardcore just kinda sounds like midwest emo with more distortion. would love to hear some of these riffs on your tele.
You kick ass. Your channel is fuckin raw. Every time i go cruising for fun guitar stuff I always find your stuff again. Liked and subbed. Keep it up brother!
Dillinger Escape Plan- 43% Burnt Botch-To Our Friends In The Great White North Any Deadguy song off of Fixation On A Coworker Employee Employee-Cibola (Grindcore, but still applies in my opinion) I can't think of any more right now
I must be old, haven’t heard of any of those bands. I was expecting Fugazi and Cursive, maybe Kind of Like Spitting and Promise Ring (the Jade Tree one). Pianos for Teeth has to be a reference to The Ugly Organ album cover.
You've never heard of Planes Mistaken For Stars? They've toured with Cursive. Most, maybe even all, of the bands on this list have been around for a decade or longer.
It's best to have two instruments, one with humbuckers and one without. Especially if you haven't decided on your playing style. I'm comfortable playing both guitars, I don't even know which one is better. It's best to have two instruments, one with humbuckers and one without. dude i love you, but as a old school emo dude can't believe you didn't put boysetsfire in here, arguably the first 'modern' post hardcore band who used to play shows with mineral and texas is the reason :( , props on title fight though, especially anaconda sniper. Planes mistaken for stars is a good call to, i saw them as a supporting act for the ataris way way way back in the day.
post hardcore isn't the same as emo. emo sounds more like regular punk rock except with minor keys. it isn't as melodic as post hardcore. with that being said, I like post hardcore and you should totally check out 'The Day Was Mine' ep from GrayStar
"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE
