*I’ve listed all the Hospital names on this video, if anyone wants to do research on them* good luck 😈 01. Norwich state hospital 02. Poveglia Island Asylum 03. Taunton state hospital 04. Willard Asylum 05. Pennhurst Asylum 06. Overbrook Asylum 07. Danvers State Hospital 08. Severalls Mental Hospital 09. Denbigh Asylum 10. Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital
In the city I grew up in, it had a huge hospital that closed last year. They have turned all the rooms into apartments this year.. Not open yet but I wonder how many people will have experiences.
Okay but just to make something clear; Psych wards/inpatient hospitals and Insane Asylums are two totally different things Inpatient hospitals are for people with mental disorders or illnesses that can be managed through therapy and/or medication and will eventually be released. Mental hospitals have good quality compared to asylums Asylums house people who can’t live or function outside of a hospital and need to stay there for years. Asylums are almost like prisons except for chronically insane and mentally unstable people A patient can leave an asylum and be moved to an inpatient hospital then outpatient treatment and therapy if their mental health improves steadily and stays stable
Skittle Barf but my professor said mental hospitals is where mentally ill people gather every Sunday & their leader would tell them to line up then one by one it'll tell them that a divine being heals them & the patients would start shaking violently & doing other crazy stunts.
Wasn't mentioned on the list, but Letchworth Village in Upstate New York (I believe Stoney Point or Haverstraw) is another terrifying hospital with miles of underground tunnels connecting hundreds of buildings.
This one wasn't on the list but Augusta Mental Health Institutions (AMHI) in Augusta, Maine. Opened in the nineteenth century and closed in 2004, almost twelve thousand people had died there and their bodies were buried along the shoreline of the Kennebec River in unmarked graves. Though the public are not allowed in, people have heard screams, chains rattling from patients who were chained up and beaten, and people seeing patients in gowns looking out the window. Anyone who is caught going in is greeted by a visit from the cops and the state denies every request of ghost hunters wanting to try and find ghosts in there
Matt, just subscribing after watching a video you did on Rob Dukes channel. Great introductory video for me as I live about 15 minutes from the remains of Norwich state hospital....it is VERY creepy there!
I really shouldn’t do this to myself. However, my curiosity and fascination with these sorts of things is too much to bare. I’m guilty of going along with the popular belief in the paranormal and extra-terrestrial.I’m glad I have you to tell me all of these things, like how there are dozens upon dozens of reports of hearing/seeing ghosts, and how all of the reports are similar to each other. It really helps me to feel less like a crazy person knowing I’m not the only one who believes.
The Chosen One Great advice from the monkey! It is only fairly recently in history that people have stopped automatically believing iin spirits, etc. In the Victorian era, the cult of death and all its mysterious creepiness was a day to day subject of conversation. Even today, in the Southern states in the USA, people cover the mirrors and stop the clocks to keep from trapping the spirit forever in the house! I live in a very haunted house...you have a lot of company of you are a "sensitive" or seer.
I went to pennhurst as it’s an hour and a half from where I live. I had a burning sensation on my back as. I was walking outside one of the halls and I went home to see I had 3 bright red scratches down my lower back. I haven’t gone back since
RandomVideosThatNoOneCares About it was weird because we were there for like 2-3 hours and all we heard was like random noises (nothing too creepy) and a door slam. Then I got home and saw that 😂 I don’t recommend going to it tho unless you’re fast as there’s a national guard armory right next to it
Hora Curka though I dig where you’re going, but we are talking of the insane and the criminally insane too.. and in a day where psychiatry continues (even today) to fail these people.. so places close, and they’re left on the streets..
I heard of an insane asylum in Canada where all the ghosts look frighteningly like Matthew Santoro. Its called the Insane Asylum for the Forever Baldo! All the ghosts act as if they are narrating a spooky video like a pro!
yeah i guess the word is less creepy when its mentioned a few times untill you remember its having a giant needle poke out a part of your brain and leave you to a fate worse than death
you forgot Bedlam! the first ever mental asylum and one with an extraordinarily evil past. it goes back to the 1200s so there are plenty of skeletons in their closets, plus its still open! the hospital has moved sites but the original building is still there and has been turned into a war museum with free entry
Actually, the war museum isn't the original building. The first location of Bethlam Royal Hospital was a nunnery and burned in the 1400s. It got the name Bedlam in the 17 - 1800s because of their inhuman treatment of patients. They actually put the bodies of deceased patients into a sespit in the bottom of the hospital. The War museum is location no.2 it was changed to the museum after the second world War if I remember correctly. but, yes. All three locations -the remains of the first one in this case - are considered extremely haunted.
Once again, another one of my favorite kinds of videos from the king of RU-vid, Mr Matthew Santoro.👍👍👍 I get so excited to see every one of your videos! And I love you dark/scary vids! Keep making them man!
Probably not a good idea to watch this the day before going on a night time ghost hunt lol Although I actually cannot wait! Going to RAF Binbrook, Lincolnshire, UK.
Probably not the best idea to say the exact location the day before you go... Make sure you take a phone with you in case of emergency and try to stay as safe as possible.
My browser keeps doing crazy stuff while I'm trying to watch this video. My browser when back to your channel page, closed the tab, closed the browser, etc. Matt your videos are haunting my computer!!!!
hatch82 I've been there, most of my photos were blurred (unfocused) for an unknown reason, in the suicide room, you can hear a weird tapping noise, it's truly terrifying, they took me into the kid's playroom, I took a photo there as well, there were orbs everywhere, once we went to another room then came back, the ball was rolling around.. Creepy stuff man. Creepy Stuff.
that was when more modern approaches to mental health started to roll in. it's scary to think just how long Lobotomies were a perfectly legal practice in many places
That's when the old generation (conservatives) took control over the hippies and troubled teens (liberalists). Uhh, the backlash of the 60s-80s when civil rights was happening and people couldn't agree used force
I love your videos brother. Especially your one on depression. What an inspiration to me you are. Not only are your videos edutaining, they're incredibly intriguing. You're just an all around awesome guy and I love your channel
Not a day goes by when I don’t watch at least one of your videos, even those I’ve seen before. Please keep the scary/creepy ones going. Love your site! ❤️
I've been in Taunton. Back in the day there was a patch in the fence held on by zip-ties. We'd snip it, go hang out in side and walk around. Have a little smoke. Then leave out, put new zips, and drive off. Never noticed anything honestly. We went the first time to go ghost hunting. Then continued going because it was a cool hang out.
I've visited Danvers several times. Pretty cool place. It's a condo complex with only the main building remaining intact. The asylum was used by HP Lovecraft in several of his stories and borrowed in the 70s from Lovecraft along with his fictional town of Arkham by Denny O'Neil for Arkham Asylum in the Batman universe. The main building looks exactly like many depictions of of Arkham Asylum. There is also a small cemetery/memorial garden on outskirts of the property for all the inmates that died at the asylum.
I love how a lot of your facts I've never heard of! I can't stand when RU-vidrs repeat the same things everyone's heard before. Love your videos matthew!!!
Is it??? I knew they had all sorts of other problems and cannot balance the chlorine in the pool in the summer, but not that anyone was having experiences!!! What have you experienced???
MatthewSantoro- I live in Taunton, Ma. and I think you may be confusing Taunton State Hospital with Paul Dever State Hospital, also located in Taunton. Paul Dever was destroyed by a fire a few years back, Taunton State Hospital is still intact. There was also a fire at Taunton State Hospital, but only one building was damaged. (out of many) Both are very haunted! Great video!
I love these dark kind videos there more entertaining!! You should do a series dedicated to dark themed things :) I’ve also been to Denigh asylum with some mates and trust me it’s creepy!! Wouldn’t recommend visiting it now. It’s got security because it had 3 arson attacks over last summer.
I just want to say that Matt Santoro has some of the best openings to his videos! They perfectly fit the theme and I bet that if you just took the opening, most people could immediately tell what the video is about.
You out done yourself with those eyebrows of yours, I love it! Amazing job, I am always up for your dark videos, I always learn something new in your videos!
My friend: What do you like to learn about? Me: Insane Asylums. My Friend: Why? Me: Because the human mind is an interesting subject. *My friend scoots away silently* 😂
Allie Luvs2draw well I’ll say both then and now psychiatry was and is still quackery which offers little if no help nor benefit.. with the exception of surgeries confinement and drugs that is.. 😒
These places have incredibly tragic histories, esp considering that it wasn't just people who were mentally ill, but also those who were mentally slow, some with down syndrome, autism, deformities, blindness, etc. People would dump their kids into these places if they were considered "embarrassing" - so many of the people who endured horrifying experiments and treatments were some of the gentlest souls in the world.
Mclaren P1 I grew up in Beverly it's the town right next to Danvers, my mother did an internship there when she was in nursing school. We snuck in one time, a lot of props were still there from session 9. They tore it down its rental apartments or condos.
Have you visited it? I'm curious in an urban explorer sorta way...I've wandered through a couple condemned schools, houses, and what not just to see what is there...
I have patients who talk about being at Danvers. I go to Hogan sometimes for trainings but that’s about the only building left of the d hospital. I’m glad human rights have come a long way but I’m sad we lost such a historic place
Has anyone ever heard of the Philadelphia State Hospital at Byberry in Philadelphia, PA? Apparently it’s compared to how the concentration camps were during WWII. Most of the buildings and tunnels are knocked down now but only one building remains and I live right by it ._. They also built a 55+ residence community right over the plot where the old asylum used be XD
I say one of these Asylums was the Inspiration for Arkham Asylum in The Batman mythos. The Plauge Island could be based off of Arkham Island in Batman: Arkham Asylum. Plus one of those mansion like asylums could be based off of the Arkham Mansion in that same game which was the home and office and even housed the cell of Amadeus Arkham.
Cade Shanley sadly the hospital got demolish and now there a new apartments but one building still standing today and they remodel it as a new apartments also I heard some people of the new apartments saying they feel been watch or something but I don't remember the rest.
MT FunnyBones I heard that is the administrative building that's left. I was there a few days ago, and there is a way in, but I'm nervous about espestos. Look for a metal filing cabinet with fallice drawing
I love the dark-themed videos that you make! They are always so interesting and I can never take my eyes off of my phone/laptop when I'm watching your videos :) Love you Matthew!
